Buying sportswear and swimwear in Bangladesh

Sportswear is sold on what the fabric does: stretch and recovery, wicking, opacity and resistance to chlorine and sweat. Importers and brands buy activewear, leggings and swimwear, and clubs, schools and companies in Dhaka and Chattogram order sublimated team jerseys. A sportswear manufacturer in Bangladesh has to prove that performance with test reports, not a sample that only looks right.

Tracksuits

A zip jacket with matching trousers in polyester tricot (a smooth warp knit), interlock, fleece or woven microfibre. Tricot suits team and training wear, fleece suits leisure. Cut both pieces from one fabric lot, or their shades will differ.

Activewear tops

T-shirts, tanks and long sleeves in light polyester or nylon knits with elastane, often with mesh panels and reflective prints. Flatlock seams lie flat where the body moves. A wicking hangtag should rest on a moisture management or wicking test, and a quick-dry claim on a drying test.

Leggings

Nylon or polyester with a high elastane share, a high waistband and usually a gusset. The common complaint is fabric that turns see-through when stretched, so fix weight and knit on the approved sample and check opacity in a deep squat.

Swimwear

Swimsuits, bikinis, trunks and rash guards. Standard elastane breaks down in pool chlorine, so pool styles use chlorine-resistant elastane or polyester-rich blends, and light colours need a lining, since they turn see-through when wet. Rash guards often carry a UPF claim.

Team jerseys

Football, cricket and club shirts in polyester mesh or interlock, printed by dye sublimation on a white or light base. The dye bonds into polyester, so prints do not crack and extra colours cost nothing more; it does not work on cotton.

Ski wear

Ski jackets and salopettes with a waterproof, breathable shell, insulation, taped seams and snow gaiters. State waterproofing as hydrostatic head (ISO 811) and breathability as Ret (ISO 11092). In children's sizes leave out hood and neck drawstrings, which EN 14682 bars for young children.

What to send a sportswear manufacturer in Bangladesh

Fabric by numbers
Fibre and elastane share, for example 80/20 nylon-elastane, knit (single jersey, interlock, mesh or tricot), GSM with a tolerance and width. Elastane share and fibre drive both price and performance.
Stretch and recovery
Targets for fabric and waistband in length and width, tested to EN 14704-1, which measures force at a set stretch and recovery. Leggings and swimwear often fail on lost recovery: baggy knees and seats.
Claims you will print
List only the claims you will print, such as wicking, quick-dry, UPF or anti-odour, each with its test and pass value. Unbacked claims are a risk with retailers and regulators.
Seams and edges
Flatlock for flat contact points, coverstitch hems, or bonded and laser-cut edges; say which and where. Ordinary seams can chafe in exercise, and every seam must stretch without cracking.
Decoration
Sublimation, heat transfer, screen or silicone print, or embroidery, with position and size. Prints on stretch fabric need inks and transfers that stretch, or they crack on leggings.
Sizes and player lists
Size ratio per colour and the fit (compression, regular or relaxed), or a name, number and size list per player for team orders.

Performance tests for sportswear and swimwear

AATCC 195 and AATCC 197
Liquid moisture management and vertical wicking tests: the numbers behind a wicking claim, run on your bulk fabric, not taken from a mill brochure.
ISO 105-E03 and ISO 105-E02
Colour fastness to chlorinated pool water and to sea water, the two that matter for swimwear. Ask for grades on each colour; bright prints on light grounds show failures clearly.
AS/NZS 4399 and EN 13758-1
Sun protection of fabrics, given as a UPF; AS/NZS 4399 rates up to UPF 50+. A UPF on a swimwear or rash guard label needs a report on your fabric and colour.
Regulation (EU) 528/2012
The Biocidal Products Regulation: textiles with an antimicrobial finish are treated articles, which may only use permitted active substances and need a label when an anti-odour or antibacterial claim is made.

What moves the price of sportswear

  • Fabric: nylon-elastane usually costs more than polyester-elastane, and a higher elastane share, recycled or chlorine-resistant fabric adds more.
  • Construction: flatlock and bonded seams, laser-cut edges and extra panels take more machine time than plain overlock.
  • Decoration: sublimation prices by piece, not by colour; heat transfers, silicone prints and embroidery price by position.
  • Tests and certificates: each printed claim needs a lab report per fabric, and GRS certification adds its own cost.
  • Order shape: many colours and sizes, or names and numbers on every piece, add handling per unit.

Lead times and delivery

Typical ranges: a first sample takes two to three weeks on stock fabric. Retail ranges usually run 60 to 90 days from sample approval; imported nylon-elastane, swim fabric, dyed-to-order colours and ski wear take longer. Sublimated team kits on stock polyester are much quicker, often a few weeks once the player list and a printed sample are approved. Roptan confirms dates in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver team kits and staff sportswear to your club, school, office or venue in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet or any other city, packed per player, per team or by size, with the packing list, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Buying sportswear and swimwear for export

For importers we quote FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), or FCA Dhaka for air freight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Tracksuits, ski suits and swimwear fall under HS 6112 when knitted and 6211 when woven. Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, origin paperwork (a REX statement for EU GSP, UK DCTS), performance and fastness test reports, GRS transaction certificates where claimed, and the final inspection report. Payment: commonly a letter of credit, or a deposit with the balance against documents.

Questions buyers ask

How do I stop leggings being see-through?

Use a denser knit such as interlock, a heavier GSM or a double layer, and fix the fabric on the approved sample. We check every colour stretched in a deep squat at sampling, and again on bulk fabric before cutting. A lower quote often means a lighter fabric, so GSM goes in every quote.

Which fabric suits swimwear for pools?

Polyester-rich blends or chlorine-resistant elastane: standard nylon-elastane feels soft but loses stretch faster in chlorine. Ask for colour fastness to chlorinated water (ISO 105-E03) and a stretch check after chlorine exposure. For the sea, nylon blends are common and should pass ISO 105-E02. Tell us pool or sea when you order.

Can you supply sublimated team jerseys with names and numbers?

Yes. Send the design file and a spreadsheet of names, numbers and sizes per team; we confirm the list and a printed sample before bulk, then check every shirt against the list before packing. Clubs, schools and companies in Bangladesh order this way, and so do importers.

What is the minimum order for custom sportswear?

It is set per style and colour. For fabric dyed or printed to order, units often want a few hundred to a few thousand pieces per colour, because performance fabric is knitted and dyed in lots; stock fabric lowers it. Sublimated team kits on stock white polyester can start at one team. The quote states each minimum.

What mistakes do first-time sportswear buyers make?

Approving leggings without a squat test, then finding them see-through. Printing wicking or UPF 50+ on the label without a lab report. Using standard elastane in pool swimwear, which loses stretch in chlorine. And putting rigid prints on stretch fabric, which crack after a few washes.

How soon will I hear back about sportswear and swimwear?
