Buying garment accessories in Bangladesh

Every garment needs trims, and one late label or a wrong zip shade can hold up a whole shipment. Export factories in Gazipur, Narayanganj, Savar, Ashulia and Chattogram buy trims and packing locally, often from makers the brand nominates; buying houses, local brands in Dhaka and importers buy the same items. How to brief a garments accessories supplier in Bangladesh

Trim card and codes

One approved physical trim card per style, with item codes, colours and quantities per size. Photos and verbal descriptions cause most wrong deliveries.

Artwork files

Vector files for logos, with exact size in millimetres and colour codes; a blurry image gives a blurry label.

Colour standard

Match dyed tapes, zips, thread and elastic to the approved lab dip or swatch under the same light sources, with a tolerance. Stock colours are faster and cost less.

Dimensions and function

Button size in lignes, zip length and chain size, label, tag and elastic sizes in mm, each with a tolerance; zip strength, slider lock and button pull by a named method.

Metal safety

Nickel release to EN 1811 under the REACH limit of 0.5 µg/cm² per week for parts in prolonged skin contact, and non-ferrous metal if garments pass a needle detector.

Chemical and market rules

An OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certificate covering the trim, or tests against your restricted substances list; care symbols, fibre wording, barcode type and poly bag warnings for the country of sale.

Quantity, allowance and date

Count per size and colour plus an allowance for production waste, commonly 2 to 5%, and the date trims must be in the factory.

EN 1811 and the REACH nickel limit

Nickel release test for metal parts in prolonged skin contact; the limit is 0.5 µg/cm² per week. Ask for a report per plating finish.

ASTM D2061 and EN 16732

Zip strength tests and the European slide fastener specification: crosswise strength, slider pull-off and lock strength. State the grade for the end use.

ISO 3758 care symbols

The care labelling code used in many markets; the US has its own rule. The label's wash symbols must agree with the garment's fabric tests.

CPSIA lead limits

For US children's products, lead must not exceed 100 ppm in the substrate and 90 ppm in paint or coatings.

Box compression, bursting strength and edge crush for cartons, with ply and board grade in the quote; add ISTA 1A or 2A transit tests if the retailer asks.

What moves the price of garment accessories

• Material and finish: brass costs more than zinc alloy, and metal more than polyester; plating, enamel and engraving add cost.
• Colour: stock colours cost less than dye-to-match, which needs a lab dip, an approval and time.
• Branding: logo buttons and zip pullers carry a one-time mould or die charge; denser label weaving costs more.
• Quantity per design, size and colour: minimums apply to each; buttons are often priced per gross of 144.
• Compliance and packing: nickel-free finishes, lab reports, certified board and heavier carton grades raise the price.

Lead times and delivery

Typical ranges: stock buttons, elastic, plain tapes and poly bags can ship within a week. Woven labels and printed tags usually take one to two weeks after artwork approval; dye-to-match zips and elastic, logo buttons and printed cartons usually two to four weeks, longer when a new mould is needed. Nominated items and failed tests add time. Roptan confirms each date against your in-house date.

Buying garment accessories for export

For brands and factories outside Bangladesh we ship labels, tags and small trims by air from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, and bulk items such as buttons or cartons FOB Chattogram (Chittagong). Documents: commercial invoice, packing list by item code, air waybill or bill of lading, certificate of origin, and OEKO-TEX certificates and nickel or lead test reports where your market needs them. The approved trim card travels with the goods.
