Buying chillers in Bangladesh

Chillers cool water for air conditioning in hospitals, hotels, malls and offices in Dhaka and Chattogram, and for processes in plastics, pharmaceuticals, food and textiles in Gazipur and Narayanganj. A chiller runs for thousands of hours a year, so electricity dominates its lifetime cost. A chiller supplier in Bangladesh should rate the machine at your site conditions and quote part-load efficiency as clearly as price.

You send the requirement once. We send one specification to verified sellers who hold brand authorisation, get every offer rated at the same water temperatures and ambient, and compare price, kW per TR, service and spare parts. We deliver the chiller; the seller rigs, installs and commissions it and records a performance run.

Chillers we source

Air cooled chillers

Reject heat to outdoor air through finned coils and fans, with no tower, condenser pump or water treatment. Simpler where water is poor or space is short, but capacity falls and power rises as ambient rises, so rate it at the hottest rooftop temperature you expect.

Water cooled chillers

Reject heat to condenser water cooled by a cooling tower. More efficient than air cooled at full load and suited to large, long-running loads, but budget for the tower, condenser pumps, water treatment, make-up water and a plant room. Rate them at the condenser water your tower can deliver.

Screw chillers

Rotary screw compressors with part load control by slide valve or variable speed, common in medium and large buildings and process plants. Most operating hours run below full load, so compare the part load figures.

Scroll chillers

Several scroll compressors stage on and off with the load. Compact and simple, they suit smaller buildings and modular plants that add capacity in steps; multiple compressors give some redundancy, and a failed compressor is swapped rather than repaired.

Absorption chillers

Heat from steam, hot water, gas firing or generator exhaust drives a lithium bromide and water cycle, which suits factories with captive gas generators or boilers. Power use is low and capital cost higher, and the cooling tower must be larger than for an electric chiller.

Process chillers

Packaged units, often with pump and tank, that cool moulds, extruders, reactors and mixing vessels. Specify the leaving water temperature and its tolerance, and the materials in contact with the fluid. For water below about 5 °C, ask for glycol and freeze protection.

How to specify a chiller

Capacity and load profile
State the design load in TR or kW (1 TR is 3.517 kW), the peak and how the load varies by hour and season. Most hours run at part load.
Water temperatures and flows
Give chilled water supply and return, for example 7 and 12 °C, and the flow. For water cooled units, state condenser water in and out; for process duty, the lowest leaving temperature.
Ambient and wet bulb
Rate air cooled units at your hottest roof temperature, and water cooled units at the monsoon wet bulb your tower faces. Both run high in Bangladesh, and ratings at milder conditions overstate output.
Efficiency basis
Ask for full load kW per TR or COP and a part load value such as IPLV to AHRI 550/590, at the same conditions for every offer.
Water quality and fouling
Hard or iron-rich water scales condenser tubes. State the fouling factor for the rating, and budget for water treatment and tube cleaning.
Redundancy
Number of chillers and whether one is standby. Two smaller units cost more than one large but keep cooling during a breakdown.
Electrical
Three phase at 50 Hz, supply stability and starting method: star-delta, soft starter or variable speed drive. Check generator capacity for the starting current.
Refrigerant, noise and space
Ask for the refrigerant, such as R-134a or R-410A, and its charge in kg. State noise limits in dB(A), the rigging route, roof load capacity and space for tube pulling.

Standards and tests to ask a chiller supplier in Bangladesh for

AHRI 550/590
The rating standard for vapour compression chillers, with standard rating conditions and the IPLV part load value. AHRI certification means the maker's figures were checked independently; ask for it on the model quoted.
AHRI 560 and EN 14511
AHRI 560 rates absorption chillers; EN 14511 is the European rating standard for chillers with electrically driven compressors, commonly quoted at 12/7 °C chilled water.
ASME Section VIII
The pressure vessel code often used for evaporator and condenser shells. Ask for the vessel certificates, or equivalents under the EU Pressure Equipment Directive.
Factory performance test
For large units, a witnessed run test in the maker's test facility at your design conditions, recording capacity and power. It is priced separately and settles efficiency questions before shipping.

What moves the price of a chiller

  • Capacity in TR and the ambient or condenser conditions it must be rated at.
  • Compressor type: scroll, screw or centrifugal, the number of compressors, and fixed or variable speed.
  • Efficiency: lower kW per TR and better IPLV cost more to buy and less to run every month.
  • Air or water cooled: water cooled needs a tower, pumps and water treatment, but saves power.
  • Origin and brand support: American, European, Japanese, Chinese and Indian chillers differ in price and local service.
  • Options and site work: coated coils, low noise fans, BMS links, a witnessed test, rigging, crane hire and anti-vibration mounts.

Lead times and delivery

Chillers held in stock, mostly smaller scroll and air cooled units, can typically be delivered within 2 to 4 weeks. Units built to order usually take 10 to 16 weeks at the factory, plus sea freight and clearance at Chattogram. Witnessed tests, special voltages, coil coatings, absorption units and LC opening add time. Roptan confirms each date in the quote.

We deliver to site across Bangladesh and plan the crane lift with you. The seller sets the chiller on anti-vibration mounts, connects and flushes the water circuits, and commissions it with a performance run, usually with the maker's trained engineer. Handover includes the commissioning report, pressure vessel certificates, wiring diagrams, O&M manuals, a spare parts list and the compressor warranty, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and installation recordWe confirm the licence and ask for chillers of similar size running in Bangladesh, with the client named, and a look at their logs.
  • Brand authorisationA letter from the brand or its distributor confirming the seller may sell and commission this chiller, which keeps the warranty valid.
  • Warranty and after sales in writingWarranty start and length, compressor cover, service visits, response times and locally stocked parts, included or priced, confirmed before you commit.
  • A visit to a working installationBefore the order is placed, we arrange a visit to a running chiller of the same type, so you can hear from its operator about service.

Questions buyers ask

Air cooled or water cooled: which should I buy?

Water cooled chillers use less power per TR and suit large, long-running loads if you can run a cooling tower and water treatment. Air cooled chillers cost less to install, avoid the tower and its water use, and suit sites with poor water or little space. Ask for both with yearly energy and water costs.

Why does my chiller give less cooling in April than its rating?

Ratings use standard conditions, such as 35 °C outdoor air for air cooled units under AHRI 550/590. Dhaka rooftops run hotter in April and May, and capacity falls as ambient rises. Ask for a rating at your peak site temperature and keep the coils clean.

What is IPLV and why does it matter?

IPLV, the integrated part load value, is one efficiency figure that combines a chiller's performance at 100, 75, 50 and 25 percent load, as defined in AHRI 550/590. Chillers spend most hours below full load, so IPLV often says more about your power bills than full-load efficiency does.

Can waste heat from my gas generator run a chiller?

Yes, through an absorption chiller. Exhaust gas or jacket water from captive gas generators can drive it, a set-up often called trigeneration. The heat available, the chilled water load and the operating hours decide whether it pays. Ask the seller for a heat balance.

What warranty and payment terms are usual for a chiller?

Warranty is commonly 12 months from commissioning, with extended compressor cover available; get response times and a priced spare parts list in writing. Payment is usually an advance with the order, a large payment against shipping documents and the balance after commissioning, sometimes with a retention.

How soon will I hear back about chillers?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
