How to brief a light engineering supplier in Bangladesh

Drawing or sample

Send a dimensioned drawing with its revision, or the worn sample and its mating part. Mark critical dimensions and worn surfaces, so the maker does not copy the wear.

Material

Name the grade, such as C45 (EN8), 42CrMo4 (EN19), grey or ductile iron, bronze or nylon, and ask for a material certificate or a chemical test. A lower grade looks the same until it wears.

Heat treatment and hardness

State the method and hardness in HRC, such as induction hardening of a journal or carburising of a gear to a case depth in mm, and where hardness is measured.

Tolerances and finish

Give fits to ISO 286, such as H7 bores, general tolerances to ISO 2768 with the class named, and surface roughness in Ra on bearing and sealing faces.

Inspection

Ask for a first article report with measured dimensions, hardness and material, CMM results for complex parts, and which dimensions are checked on every piece.

Quantities and tooling

First order and yearly volume. Small batches suit machining; large runs may justify a casting pattern or forging die, since tooling cost per piece falls with volume.

Standards and records for engineered parts

ISO 1328-1

Accuracy grades for cylindrical gear flanks. State the grade you need and ask for a gear inspection report; finer grades need grinding and cost more.

EN 10204 type 3.1

Material certificate from the steel maker with chemistry and mechanical results for the heat, validated independently of production. For bar bought from traders, ask for it or test a sample.

ISO 9906

Acceptance tests for rotodynamic pumps: flow, head, power and efficiency. Ask for a test curve for irrigation and water pumps.

ISO 4254-1 and EU machinery rules

General safety of agricultural machinery, and for the EU, CE marking with a risk assessment and technical file under Directive 2006/42/EC, replaced by Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 from January 2027.

• Material: alloy and tool steels, bronze and stainless cost more than mild steel or grey iron.

Lead times and delivery

Simple parts made to drawing from stock material typically take 1 to 3 weeks. Parts needing castings, forgings or heat treatment, such as gears and shafts, usually take 3 to 8 weeks, and moulds and dies 6 to 12 weeks to the first trial samples, plus corrections. Buying light engineering and machinery parts for export

For importers we quote FOB Chattogram, with parts oiled, VCI-wrapped and packed in cartons or wooden crates heat-treated to ISPM 15, labelled by part number, or ship small urgent parts by air from Dhaka. Before loading, dimensions and hardness are checked on an AQL sample to ISO 2859-1. Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, a REX statement on origin for EU GSP, inspection report, material certificates and, for machinery bound for the EU, the CE declaration of conformity.
