Selective pallet racking

Upright frames and beam pairs that give direct access to every pallet, the standard choice for mixed stock and first in, first out. Price per position is low, but aisles take floor space.

Drive in racking

Lanes the forklift drives into, storing pallets several deep on rails. It holds many more pallets per square metre for large quantities of one product, but works last in, first out, and impact damage is more common.

Mezzanine floors

A steel platform that adds a floor inside a tall building for storage, packing or offices, priced per square metre by floor load. State the load in kg per square metre, deck type, stairs and a loading gate, and check the slab under each column.

Cantilever racking

Arms on central columns with no front uprights, so long loads such as pipe, steel bar, timber, profiles and fabric rolls load from the side. Capacity is stated per arm and per column; ask for hot-dip galvanising outdoors.

Shelving racks

Boltless or slotted angle shelving for cartons, spares, accessories and files loaded by hand. Give shelf size, load per shelf level and number of levels. It is the low-cost option; check the steel thickness against the stated load per shelf.

Mobile racking

Racks on motorised bases on floor rails, opening one aisle at a time. It stores far more in the same room, which suits cold stores and archives, but costs more per position and needs a level floor for the rails and power during load shedding.

What to tell an industrial rack supplier in Bangladesh

Pallet and load: Pallet size, such as 1200 × 1000 mm or 1200 × 800 mm, height with load, and the heaviest weight in kg including the pallet.
Building and floor: Clear height to the lowest beam, light or sprinkler head, column grid, and slab thickness and grade. Upper floors need a structural engineer's check.
Forklift and aisle: Truck type, maximum lift height and right-angle stacking aisle. A counterbalance truck needs a wider aisle than a reach truck; choose racking and forklift together.
Layout and stock flow: A drawing showing columns, doors, fire exits, drains and sprinklers, pallet positions needed now and later, and whether stock leaves first in, first out or last in, first out.
Finish and flooding: Powder coating suits dry indoor stores; hot-dip galvanising suits cold rooms, damp ground floors and coastal sites near Chattogram or Mongla. Where the store floods, set the lowest beam above the flood line.
Seismic zone and accessories: The site's seismic zone under BNBC 2020, since tall racking in higher zones needs earthquake design, and the upright protectors, row end guards, mesh decks and pallet supports you want, so every quote includes them.
Commercial terms: Delivery and installation, VAT, payment stages, design drawings and the structural and finish warranty you expect, so offers compare like for like.

Racking standards, inspection and handover papers

EN 15512: Structural design of adjustable pallet racking. Ask for the design calculation or load tables for your beam spans, levels and frame heights, not a brochure rating.
EN 15620: Tolerances, deformations and clearances for adjustable pallet racking. Use it at installation to check plumb, beam levels and the gaps around each pallet.
EN 15635: Use and maintenance of storage equipment: load notices on every run, regular visual checks and an expert inspection at least every 12 months, with damage graded green, amber or red.
EN 16681: Seismic design of adjustable pallet racking. Ask for it, or an equivalent, where the site's BNBC 2020 seismic zone calls for earthquake loads on tall racking.
BNBC 2020: Covers the building: slab capacity for rack point loads, mezzanine structure, seismic design and, under Part 4, fire protection, since tall racks affect sprinklers and exits.

What moves the price of industrial racking

Steel weight: higher loads, taller frames and longer beams need heavier sections, and steel prices follow the market and exchange rate.
Finish: hot-dip galvanising costs more than powder coating but lasts longer in damp or salty air.
System type: drive in, mobile racking and mezzanines cost more per position or per square metre than selective racking, but hold more.
Accessories: guards, mesh decks, signs and anchors add cost and reduce damage.
Scope: design calculation, slab check, delivery, installation and anchors, which some quotes leave out.

Lead times and delivery

Standard shelving is often in stock and delivers within a week. Pallet racking fabricated in Bangladesh typically takes three to six weeks after you approve the layout; galvanised, imported, mobile and large mezzanine systems typically take eight to twelve weeks. Installation runs from days to weeks by size, and a slab check or layout change adds time. Roptan confirms dates in the quote.

The seller delivers to your warehouse in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram or elsewhere, installs to the approved layout, anchors every upright, fits beam safety locks and checks plumb and beam levels against EN 15620. Questions buyers ask

Can racking go on an upper floor?

Only after a structural engineer checks the slab. Racking concentrates weight on small base plates, and a full bay can exceed what a floor was designed to carry. Send the floor's design load or the building drawings; the seller designs base plates and bay loads to suit.

Selective or drive-in racking?

Selective racking gives direct access to every pallet and suits mixed stock. Drive-in racking stores more pallets per square metre but works last in, first out, so it suits large quantities of few products. For first in, first out in dense storage, ask about drive-through racking.

How do I compare racking quotes from different sellers?

Put them on cost per pallet position at the same capacity per level, height, finish and scope, then compare upright and beam sizes and steel thickness from the drawings. A low price per bay can hide thinner steel, fewer levels or missing installation; a price per tonne says nothing about safe load.

How often should racking be inspected?

Regular visual checks by trained staff and an expert inspection at least every 12 months, as EN 15635 describes. Red-graded damage means unload that section at once. Report forklift strikes the same day, and replace damaged uprights rather than straighten them.

Can I add beam levels or move racks later?

Usually, if the uprights were designed for the new loads and heights. Moving a beam level changes the frame's capacity, so ask the seller to re-check the design and issue new load notices before anything is moved or added. Never move beams on a loaded bay.

How soon will I hear back about industrial racks?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the model or specification, where it is needed and by when.
