Buying vehicles and auto parts in Bangladesh

Bangladesh builds truck and bus bodies on imported chassis, assembles three-wheelers, fabricates trailers, and makes replacement parts such as leaf springs and brake linings, and railway track fittings, to drawing or sample. Importers abroad buy aftermarket parts and rail fittings. At home, bus and truck operators, fleet workshops and dealers in Dhaka, Chattogram, Gazipur and Narayanganj buy bodies, trailers and parts.

A part that looks right can still fail if the steel, heat treatment or dimensions are off. Roptan turns your drawings or part list into one specification for a verified auto parts supplier in Bangladesh, checks first articles, material certificates and tests, and delivers to your workshop or ships from Chattogram (Chittagong). You deal with Roptan only, or post the requirement on our board.

Vehicles and auto parts we source

Truck and bus bodies

Cargo, covered van, tipper and tanker bodies for trucks, and passenger bodies for buses, built on an imported chassis. Specify chassis model and wheelbase, layout, panel material, corrosion protection and dimensions that meet registration rules.

Three-wheelers

Passenger and cargo three-wheelers, battery-run or engine-driven, and their bodies and parts. Specify motor or engine power, battery type and capacity, payload or seating, brakes and lighting, and check the type can be registered where it will run.

Trailers

Flatbed, low-bed, tipper and skeletal container trailers built to order. Specify payload, axles within your road limits, a 50 or 90 mm (2 or 3.5 inch) king pin to match your tractors, twist locks, suspension, brakes and lights.

Engine parts

Pistons, liners, rings, gaskets, filters, valves, bearings and pulleys for diesel and petrol engines, made to drawing or copied from a sample. Specify engine model and part number, and whether you want original, replacement or reconditioned parts.

Brake and suspension parts

Brake shoes, linings, pads and drums, leaf springs, bushes, U-bolts and shock absorbers. Specify vehicle and part number, asbestos-free friction material with friction tests, spring steel grade, leaf dimensions, hardness and fatigue test.

Railway track fittings

Fish plates, base plates, elastic rail clips, bolts, liners, dog spikes and concrete sleepers, made to the railway's own drawings and material specification, usually after a tender. Specify rail section, gauge and drawing number.

What to send an auto parts supplier in Bangladesh

Part identity
Give the original part number, vehicle or engine model and year, or a drawing with its revision. For copies, send the worn sample and the part it mates with.
Dimensions and tolerances
Mark critical dimensions and fits on the drawing, general tolerances to ISO 2768 and surface finish in Ra. Unmarked dimensions are left to the seller's judgement.
Material and heat treatment
Name the grade, such as spring steel or ductile iron, and hardness after treatment, with an EN 10204 type 3.1 certificate for critical parts. A softer grade is an easy saving to hide.
Tests
Hardness, dimensional reports per lot, leaf spring fatigue, brake friction performance, and weld, load and water leak tests for bodies and trailers.
Corrosion and climate
Humidity, monsoon water and coastal salt attack bodies and chassis. Specify the paint system and its thickness in microns, and zinc plating on parts.
Registration and road rules
For bodies and trailers, give the dimensions, axle loads and lighting your registering authority accepts; in Bangladesh, BRTA registers vehicles and issues fitness certificates.
Quantities and packing
First order and yearly volume, and rust-preventive packing with part number and batch on every box.

Quality systems, materials and approvals for auto parts

IATF 16949 and ISO 9001
The automotive quality management standard built on ISO 9001, usually expected of suppliers to vehicle makers. Ask for the certificate and its scope.
PPAP or first article inspection
For parts made to your drawing, a first article or PPAP submission with dimensional results, material certificates and process records, approved before bulk.
EN 10204 type 3.1
The material maker's inspection certificate, with chemistry and mechanical results for the heat or batch. Ask for it with each heat of spring and structural steel.
UN Regulation No. 90
Approval of replacement brake linings, pads, drums and discs in markets that apply UNECE rules. Ask whether the exact part number holds it, with the approval number on part and box.
UN Regulation No. 66
Rollover strength of large bus bodies. If your market applies it, ask whether the body design was tested or calculated to it.

What moves the price of auto parts and bodies

  • Material: steel grade, iron type and alloy content; alloy spring steel and forgings cost more than plain carbon steel.
  • Heat treatment and machining: hardening, grinding and tight tolerances add steps and inspection time.
  • Tooling: patterns, dies and fixtures for new parts, usually charged once and spread over your volume.
  • Testing and approvals: first article reports, fatigue tests and UN R90 approval.
  • Bodies and trailers: panel material and thickness, seats and AC, and bought-in axles, tyres and brake valves.
  • Batch size: small runs of many part numbers cost more per piece.

Lead times and delivery

Common replacement parts in stock can ship within days to two weeks. Parts made to drawing typically take 4 to 8 weeks after first article approval, longer when patterns or dies are needed. Bodies and trailers usually take 4 to 10 weeks from chassis arrival or order, depending on axle and tyre supply. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum order in the quote.

Inside Bangladesh we deliver parts to workshops, fleets, depots and dealers, labelled by part number. Bodies and trailers are handed over at the builder's yard or your depot with a checklist: dimensions, doors and exits, lights, wiring, paint thickness and a water test for leaks. You receive the inspection report, warranty terms, drawings and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying vehicles and auto parts for export

For importers we quote FOB Chattogram: parts in cartons or ISPM 15 crates on pallets, rust-protected and labelled by part number; trailers and bodies ro-ro, on flat racks or knocked down as kits for assembly on arrival. Before loading we check dimensions, hardness and marking on an AQL sample to ISO 2859-1. Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, a REX statement on origin for EU GSP, material certificates and the inspection report.

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and ERCCurrent, and in the name on the quote and the export documents, so payment and shipping papers match the seller.
  • First articles and material recordsA dimensional report and material certificate on first pieces, checked against your drawing before bulk, and approvals such as R90 where needed.
  • Warranty and spare parts in writingWhat is covered, for how long, how failed parts are replaced or credited, and parts supply for bodies and three-wheelers.
  • A visit to the plant or yardBefore the order we see casting, machining, heat treatment, welding and the gauges used, not just finished stock.

Questions buyers ask

Can you source a part from a sample when there is no drawing?

Yes. The seller measures the sample with its mating part, restores worn dimensions to the original fit, draws it and makes a first article for your approval. Hardness and a chemical test on the sample guide the material. Approve the drawing and first article in writing.

How do I specify and compare a bus body built on my chassis?

Send the chassis model and drawings, seating layout, door and emergency exit positions, AC or non-AC, and panel material. Compare quotes on the body frame drawing and material list: steel grade and thickness for floor, frame and panels, paint system and warranty. A thinner floor is a common hidden saving.

How do I make sure brake linings are asbestos-free?

Ask for a written declaration and a lab report on the friction material for the exact part number. Many markets ban asbestos in friction materials, and markets applying UNECE rules need UN Regulation No. 90 approval for replacement linings.

Which gauge and rail section do track fittings need?

The railway's own. Bangladesh runs broad gauge (1676 mm), metre gauge (1000 mm) and dual gauge lines, and fittings follow the railway's drawings for each rail section. Send the drawing number, rail section, material and tests, such as clip toe load, and whether the railway's inspector witnesses tests.

Who owns the tooling I pay for, and what is the minimum order?

You should own it. Pay for dies, moulds or patterns against a written agreement that says you own them, where they are kept and that they are used only for your parts. Machined parts can start from small lots; castings, forgings and pressings cost less per piece in larger runs.

How soon will I hear back about vehicles and auto parts?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
