Passenger lifts

Traction lifts rated in persons and kilograms: 630 kg carries 8 persons, 1,000 kg carries 13. Machine-room-less designs save roof space; a machine room eases service. Choose door width and speed for the traffic, and stainless finishes for humid air.

Goods lifts

Cargo lifts with heavier floors, wider doors and lower speeds, rated for the load and how it enters. If a pallet truck or forklift drives in, floor, sill and rails must take its wheel loads.

Hospital bed lifts

Deep cars that take a bed or stretcher with attendants and equipment, with wide doors, accurate levelling and longer door open times. Put them on standby power, and have the seller confirm the car size against your beds.

Car lifts

Escalators

Replacing the controller, drive, door operators, ropes or car interior of an old lift while keeping sound rails and structure. It cuts breakdowns and costs less than a new lift; a survey decides what stays, with EN 81-80 as the checklist.

What to tell a lift supplier in Bangladesh

Rated load and persons: Rated load in kg and persons, plus the internal car size and door width you need. Bed, goods and car lifts are sized to the load and how it enters.
Stops, travel and speed: Number of stops, floor heights and total travel in metres. Speed follows from travel and traffic; taller or busier buildings need faster lifts to keep waiting times reasonable.
Shaft, pit and headroom: Clear shaft width and depth, pit depth and headroom from the drawings. Build the shaft after choosing the lift; in older Dhaka buildings the shaft decides the car.
Machine room or not: A machine-room-less lift saves a roof room; a machine room eases service. Either way, ventilate it: controllers and drives have a stated maximum ambient temperature, and roof spaces run hot.
Power and rescue: Three phase, 50 Hz supply, your voltage swings and the generator size. Ask for an automatic rescue device that brings the car to a floor and opens the doors in a power cut.
Pit water: Basement pits flood in the monsoon. Specify pit waterproofing, a drain or sump, and a pit water sensor that keeps the car out of a flooded pit.
Scope, doors and finishes: Who builds the shaft, provides scaffolding and brings power to the controller; door type, car finish, and the price of maintenance after the free period.

Lift standards, tests and handover papers

EN 81-20: Safety rules for the construction and installation of passenger and goods passenger lifts. Ask for the seller's declaration that the lift is built to it.
EN 81-50: Design rules, calculations and tests for lift components such as door locks, safety gear, overspeed governors and buffers. Ask for their type examination certificates.
EN 81-80 and EN 115-1: EN 81-80 guides safety upgrades of existing lifts; EN 115-1 covers escalators and moving walks. Name the one that applies in your order.
BNBC 2020: The Bangladesh National Building Code has lift provisions. Your architect or consultant confirms which apply, and the seller confirms the layout drawing matches your approved plans.
Commissioning test report: Signed, dated results for brakes, safety gear, governor, buffers, levelling, door protection, alarm and rescue device, with the test weights used.

What moves the price of a lift

Rated load and car size: bigger cars need larger machines, rails and car frames, especially bed, goods and car lifts.
Stops and travel: every landing adds a door, fixings and wiring, and more travel adds rail and rope.
Speed and drive: gearless machines with variable frequency drives cost more but use less power than older geared designs.
Origin: European, Japanese, Korean, Chinese or Indian make, and whether parts are held in Bangladesh.
Finishes and maintenance: stainless or glass cars, door type, and the contract after the free period, with parts or labour-only.

Lead times and delivery

Lifts are made to order for your shaft. Supply typically takes 8 to 16 weeks from approved drawings and advance, including sea freight and clearance; installing a passenger lift then takes 4 to 8 weeks once the shaft is finished, plumb and dry. Escalators and custom cars take longer. Payments usually follow stages: advance, delivery and handover. Roptan confirms dates in the quote.

The seller delivers the lift in crates to your site in Dhaka, Chattogram or elsewhere, installs it in the finished shaft and commissions it: load test, brakes, safety gear, governor, door locks and rescue device. Ask to witness the tests. At handover you get the VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3), the test report, wiring diagrams, the manual rescue procedure, keys, a maintenance log and the warranty with its start date.

Questions buyers ask

Will the lift work during load shedding?

With an automatic rescue device, the car moves to the nearest floor and opens its doors when power fails, so nobody is trapped. To keep running through a cut, the lift needs generator backup sized for its motor and starting current; we check your generator with the seller.

Machine room or machine-room-less lift?

A machine-room-less lift puts the machine in the shaft, saves the roof room and suits tight plots and mid-rise buildings. A machine room gives easier access for service and cooling, and often suits heavy goods lifts. Decide early: it changes the shaft, roof structure and civil works.

What should we test before accepting a new lift?

Watch the seller test the brakes with 125% of rated load, plus the safety gear, overspeed governor, buffers, door reopening, alarm, intercom and rescue device. Check stopping accuracy at every floor; EN 81-20 sets ±10 mm. Keep the signed report with the warranty.

How do I compare two lift quotes?

Check they price the same capacity, speed, stops, door width, car finish, machine and controller, rescue device and installation, and note the civil works each excludes. Then add maintenance after the free period. A cheaper quote often assumes you pay for scaffolding, pit work or power.

Can our old lift be modernised instead of replaced?

Often, yes. If the shaft, rails and car frame are sound, the seller replaces the controller, drive, machine, doors and car interior, sometimes in stages, for less cost and downtime than a new lift. Ask for a survey listing what stays and how long the lift is out of service.

How soon will I hear back about lifts and elevators?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the model or specification, where it is needed and by when.
