How to brief a wig manufacturer in Bangladesh

Hair type and grade

Human or synthetic; for human hair, Remy or non-Remy, virgin or chemically processed. Ask for the grade in words: letter grades such as 10A are not defined by any standard.

Length, weight and density

Length in inches measured straight, weight in grams per unit and density in per cent, with a photo standard. Curly textures measure shorter unstretched.

Cap and lace

Construction (lace front, full lace, 360 lace, monofilament or machine-made), lace colour, cap size by head circumference, straps and combs. Names vary between makers, so send a reference unit.

Colour and texture

Colour code and a physical swatch with shade tolerance, and the texture: straight, body wave or curly. Waves relax after washing, so approve a washed sample; dyed hair needs colour fastness to washing and a rub check.

Chemical processing and tests

Bleached knots, dyed colours or coatings change how hair lasts, and light blondes cost more since lightening weakens the hair. Ask exactly what was done, and write a comb test and wash test pass mark into the order.

Packing and labels

Hairnet and box or bag per piece, silica gel against monsoon humidity, care labels, barcodes and a carton label with style, length, colour and batch.

Tests, rules and certificates for hair products

EN 71-2

Flammability of toys, including wigs, beards and masks worn on the head. It applies when a costume wig is sold as a toy for children in the EU; ask for the report on the fibre and colour you order.

REACH nickel and azo dyes

Nickel release from metal clips and pins in prolonged skin contact, and the restriction on certain azo dyes in articles in skin contact, which names hairpieces and wigs. Ask for tests on dyed hair and fibre.

Animal by-product and CITES rules

Feathers are animal by-products under Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009, so ask for proof of treatment and any health certificate the importing country requires. Feathers from listed wild bird species need CITES permits.

HS headings 6703 and 6704

Worked human hair falls under heading 6703, and wigs, false eyelashes and similar articles under 6704. Confirm the code with your broker, since it sets your import duty.

What moves the price of wigs

• Hair: human hair costs far more than synthetic, and virgin Remy more than processed or non-Remy hair.
• Length and density: price rises steeply with length, since long hair of good quality is scarce, and denser units use more hair.
• Cap: full lace and hand-tied caps cost more than lace front or machine-wefted caps.
• Colour work, packaging, compliance files and air freight, which is common for this light, valuable product.

Lead times and delivery

Typical ranges: samples usually take two to four weeks, and bulk 30 to 75 days from sample approval, depending on cap construction, colour work and quantity; machine-wefted wigs and extensions are quicker, and hand-tied lace caps take far longer. Long lengths, light blonde colours and feather treatment add time. Roptan confirms the dates in the quote.

Wigs and lashes are light and valuable, so many orders go by air: we quote FCA Dhaka airport; large lots of synthetic wigs, combs or clips can go FOB Chattogram (Chittagong). Documents: commercial invoice stating the hair type and HS code, packing list, air waybill or bill of lading, certificate of origin, a REX statement on origin for EU GSP or UK DCTS paperwork, test reports, and treatment papers for feather goods. We inspect to AQL under ISO 2859-1, weighing and measuring units against the sealed sample. Payment is usually a deposit with the balance before dispatch.
