Bangladesh makes and assembles refrigerators, freezers, televisions, fans, irons, kettles, rice cookers, blenders and LED lights for a large home market and for importers abroad, who buy under the maker's brand or their own label. At home, dealers, hotels, hospitals, offices and housing projects in Dhaka and Chattogram (Chittagong) and factories in Gazipur buy in bulk, often with after-sales service included.

How to brief a home appliance manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Market and standard
- Name the market and the safety standard it applies to your product. It decides plugs, labels, tests and the reports you need.
- Voltage, frequency and plug
- State voltage, frequency and plug, such as 220 to 240 V at 50 Hz or 110 to 120 V at 60 Hz; the two systems need different motors, compressors and power supplies.
- Heat, humidity and supply
- Room heat sets the climate class a fridge needs, and humidity sets board protection. Where supply is unstable, ask for the lowest voltage the compressor starts at and the surge rating of electronic drivers.
- Measured performance
- Ask for measured energy use for fridges, air delivery and watts for fans, lumens and watts for lights, each with the test standard used and the energy label your market requires.
- Materials and food contact
- State the stainless steel grade, pot coating and jar plastic. Parts touching food need a declaration of compliance for your market, such as under EU Regulation 1935/2004.
- Brand, manuals and packing
- Your brand or the maker's, label and manual languages, carton print, units per container, and a transit test such as ISTA 1A or 2A.

- Household appliance safety: part 1 general, part 2 per product, such as 2-24 refrigerators, 2-80 fans, 2-3 irons, 2-15 kettles and rice cookers, 2-14 blenders. Ask for the report on the exact model.

- Safety of audio, video and IT equipment, which covers televisions. Ask for the report on the exact chassis and power supply quoted.

- Luminaire safety, safety of self-ballasted LED lamps, and photobiological safety. Add photometric reports for lumens and efficacy from an accredited lab.
- IECEE CB Scheme
- A CB test certificate and report against IEC standards, which many national bodies accept towards their own marks, saving repeat tests.
- CE marking and RoHS
- For the EU: Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, with a declaration of conformity and the test reports behind it.
Lead times and delivery
Models from a maker's current range are often in stock and ship within 2 to 4 weeks. Private label runs typically take 6 to 10 weeks after sample approval, longer when a new mould, colour or certification is needed. Buying home appliances for export
For importers we quote FOB Chattogram in full containers, mixed across models where the maker allows, or air freight from Dhaka for samples. Before loading, an AQL inspection to ISO 2859-1 checks function, appearance, labels and cartons, with electric strength, earth continuity and carton drop tests. Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, a REX statement on origin for EU GSP, test reports and the declaration of conformity where your market requires it.
Questions buyers ask
What climate class should a refrigerator have for a hot country?
Class T, rated for ambient air from 16 to 43 °C, or at least ST, rated to 38 °C. A class N fridge is designed for up to 32 °C, so in a hot kitchen in summer it runs longer and may not hold temperature. The class is on the rating plate.
Can I buy appliances under my own brand?
Yes. Many makers offer private label on existing models: your logo, colours, manuals and cartons, with their design and tests, above a minimum per model and colour. Changes to moulds or electronics mean new samples and often new test reports. In the EU, the brand owner takes on the maker's legal duties.
Which test reports do I need to import appliances?
It depends on the market. Many markets accept IEC 60335 or IEC 62368-1 reports, often through a CB certificate, plus EMC reports; the EU also needs CE marking with RoHS. The report must name the exact model and voltage: a 230 V report does not cover a 110 to 120 V version.
How do I compare fan air delivery figures?
Only when measured the same way. Ask for air delivery in m³/min and input watts at full speed, tested to IEC 60879 or your national method, and compare air delivery per watt. BLDC ceiling fans draw much less power for similar air delivery and suit solar or IPS backup.
How are warranty claims handled on export orders?
Usually through a spare parts or free replacement allowance shipped with the order, plus service manuals so your technicians can repair; some makers credit failed units against the next order instead. Agree the method, the rate and the evidence needed in writing before the first order.
How soon will I hear back about home appliances?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
