Steel and metal products we source

Steel bars and rods

Deformed reinforcing bars, usually 8 to 32 mm, and wire rod in coils for drawing. Specify the grade, such as B500DWR or ASTM A615 Grade 60, sizes and lengths, with a mill certificate for each heat.

Steel structures

Pre-engineered buildings, factory sheds, trusses, towers and platforms from built-up and hot-rolled sections, fabricated, painted or galvanised and shipped as numbered parts for bolting on site. Specify design loads, steel grade and coating.

Galvanised wire

Hot-dip galvanised wire for fencing, binding, armouring and mesh, and barbed wire, sold by gauge and coil weight. Specify diameter and tolerance, tensile strength and zinc coating class.

Cast iron articles

Manhole covers and gratings to EN 124 load classes, from B125 for footways to D400 for roads, plus pipe fittings, counterweights and cookware. Specify grey or ductile iron, load class, frame size, coating and the load test certificate.

Kitchen and household steelware

Pots, pans, plates, utensils, sinks and storage ware in stainless steel. Specify the grade, 304 for corrosion resistance or cheaper 201, thickness, finish and food-contact declarations for your market.

Hand tools and hardware

Spanners, pliers, hammers, hinges, locks, nails and fasteners. Specify steel grade, forging or pressing, hardness in HRC and finish, and for bolts the property class to ISO 898-1, such as 8.8, with proof load tests.

How to brief a steel product manufacturer in Bangladesh

Grade and standard
Name the standard and grade, such as B500DWR or ASTM A615 Grade 60 for rebar, and the steel grade for sections, sheet and wire.
Mechanical tests
Yield and tensile strength, their ratio, elongation, and bend and rebend tests for rebar, with results per heat on an EN 10204 type 3.1 certificate, not per year.
Chemistry and weldability
Limit carbon, phosphorus, sulphur and carbon equivalent where steel will be welded. Induction furnaces melting scrap do little to remove phosphorus and sulphur, so check them per heat.
Dimensions and weight basis
Give sizes, lengths and tolerances, and for rebar the mass per metre tolerance, since light bars are a known shortcut, and whether you pay on actual or theoretical weight.
Coating
Specify galvanising to ISO 1461 or ASTM A123 by coating thickness, or a paint system to ISO 12944 by corrosivity category, often C4 or C5 near the coast.
Structural design
For buildings, give spans, heights, crane loads and location, and who designs and erects. BNBC 2020 sets wind and seismic loads, with higher design wind speeds in coastal districts.

BDS ISO 6935-2 and ASTM A615
Reinforcing bar standards covering ribbed bars, grades, chemistry, tensile and bend tests, and marking.
EN 10204 type 3.1
The mill test certificate: chemistry and mechanical results for the heat, issued by the mill's inspection department independent of production. Match heat numbers to the bundle tags.
ISO 1461 and ASTM A123
Hot-dip galvanised coatings on fabricated steel articles, with minimum coating thickness by steel thickness. Ask for a coating thickness report per lot.
AWS D1.1 and ISO 12944
The structural welding code for steel, and corrosion protection of steel structures by paint systems. Ask for welder qualifications and a dry film thickness report.
EN 124 and EN 10244-2
Manhole cover load classes from A15 to F900, the number being the test load in kN; and zinc coating classes on steel wire, tested by stripping.
CBAM for EU-bound steel
EU importers of iron and steel goods account for embedded emissions under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, above a small-volume threshold. Ask the mill for emissions data early.

What moves the price of steel products

  • Scrap, billet and zinc prices, which move with the international steel market week to week.
  • Grade and testing: certified B500DWR or Grade 60 costs more than untested bar; stainless 304 costs more than 201 for its nickel.
  • Weight basis: actual versus theoretical weight can change the invoiced tonnes by a few percent.
  • Fabrication and coating: welding, drilling and fit-up hours per tonne of structure, galvanising by weight or multi-coat paint systems.
  • Freight and packing: small lots, special lengths and export packing add cost per tonne.

Lead times and delivery

Rebar in common sizes from mill stock usually delivers within days to two weeks. Fabricated structures typically take 4 to 10 weeks after drawing approval, and galvanised wire, castings and steelware made to order 3 to 8 weeks after sample approval, longer when new patterns are needed. Questions buyers ask

What rebar grade should I order, and what do 500W, 72.5 grade or B500DWR mean?

The grade on your structural drawings. Designs in Bangladesh commonly call for 500 MPa bar: 500W and B500DWR both denote 500 MPa weldable bar, and in B500DWR, to BDS ISO 6935-2, the D is the ductility class. 72.5 grade is the same strength in thousands of psi; 60 grade is about 420 MPa, as in ASTM A615 Grade 60.

Is rebar sold by actual or theoretical weight?

Both are used. Actual weight comes from a weighbridge; theoretical weight is length times the standard mass per metre. Bars rolled at the light end of the tolerance weigh less than theoretical, so the basis changes what you pay. Agree it in the order, and weigh a sample bundle on delivery.

How do I check that stainless kitchenware is really 304?

Not with a magnet: 201 and 304 are both largely non-magnetic. A handheld XRF reads nickel and chromium in seconds, and 304 carries about 8 percent nickel against much less in 201. Put the grade in the contract and we check a sample from each lot.

How do I compare pre-engineered building quotes?

Ask each fabricator to price the same design, or to state the design loads and codes used. Then compare steel weight per square metre, sheeting thickness, connections, paint system and erection, and ask for design calculations signed by an engineer. A lighter design can be right, or can cut margins you need.

What zinc coating should galvanised wire have?

It depends on the use and the life you need. Coatings are specified as mass per square metre by class in EN 10244-2 or ASTM A641, and heavier classes last longer in coastal and humid air. Specify the class and ask for stripping test results per lot.

How soon will I hear back about steel and metal products?
