BNBC 2020 Part 4 sets what a building needs, Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) checks it for the fire licence, and export garment factories also face RSC inspections. Every unit must suit the hazard beside it and hold pressure.

ABC powder extinguishers

Dry powder, usually mono ammonium phosphate, for burning solids, flammable liquids and gas, and usable on electrical fires. The general choice for offices, stores and factory floors, in 1 to 12 kg sizes. The residue damages electronics, so use CO2 beside servers.

CO2 extinguishers

Carbon dioxide at high pressure, usually 2 to 5 kg. It does not conduct electricity and leaves no residue, so it suits switch rooms, server rooms and panels. Weak on burning paper, and it displaces oxygen in a small closed room.

Foam extinguishers

Water with a film-forming foam concentrate, usually 6 or 9 litres, that blankets burning liquids and cools solids: fuel stores, generator rooms and vehicle bays. Use it near live electrics only if the label shows a passed dielectric test.

Fire hose reels

A wall-mounted reel of semi-rigid hose to EN 671-1, fed from the building's water supply or fire pump, for a continuous jet on fires in solids. BNBC 2020 Part 4 decides where they go; price the valve, cabinet and pipework too.

Fire alarm panels

Takes signals from detectors and manual call points and drives the sounders. A conventional panel reports a zone; an addressable panel names the exact device. Ask for EN 54 or UL 864 evidence.

Fire sprinklers

Heads on a pipe network that open one by one when heat reaches their rating, commonly 68 °C for the red glass bulb. A fire engineer designs the system, usually to NFPA 13, with tank and pump; state orientation and temperature rating.

What to tell a fire extinguisher supplier in Bangladesh

Hazard by area: List each area and what could burn: paper, flammable liquids, gas cylinders, live panels, servers or a kitchen. The hazard sets the agent, and one agent rarely suits every room.
Rating, not only weight: Give the agent, the charge in kg or litres and the label rating, such as 27A 144B under EN 3 or 2-A:10-B:C under UL 711. The rating measures firefighting power; weight does not.
Number, spacing and height: Count units by floor area and travel distance. NFPA 10 caps travel to a Class A unit at 22.9 m and puts the top of units up to 18 kg no higher than 1.53 m.
Standard and certificate: Name the standard, EN 3, UL 711 or the one your auditor sets, and ask for the certificate number for the exact model and size quoted.
Gauge, weight and fill date: Stored-pressure powder and foam units carry a gauge; CO2 units are checked by weight. Ask for recently filled stock, not units that sat in a warehouse for years.
Heat, humidity and salt air: Check the label's temperature range covers hot store rooms and vehicles. Humid air rusts mild steel bodies, faster near the coast, so ask for coated bodies and covers outdoors.
Alarms and sprinklers: Systems, not boxes. Send drawings and name the design standard: NFPA 72 or EN 54 for alarms, NFPA 13 for sprinklers. Ask for the 24 hours of standby battery NFPA 72 requires.

Standards, approvals and licence papers

EN 3 and UL 711: EN 3 is the European standard for portable extinguishers; UL 711 sets the fire test ratings on UL listed units. Ask for the certificate or listing for the exact model and size quoted.
NFPA 10: The US standard for selecting, placing, inspecting and maintaining portable extinguishers: a monthly visual check, yearly maintenance and hydrostatic tests at set intervals, which shapes the service contract.
BNBC 2020 Part 4 and the FSCD fire licence: Sets what a building needs by use and size. Fire Service and Civil Defence issues the fire licence and inspects premises; keep certificates, the unit register and service tags together.
EN 54, UL 864, NFPA 72 and NFPA 13: EN 54 covers detection and alarm equipment, UL 864 alarm control units, NFPA 72 alarm systems and NFPA 13 sprinkler installation. Ask which the design follows and whether listed parts are required.

What moves the price of fire extinguishers

Agent and capacity: CO2 units use heavy high pressure cylinders and usually cost more than powder units of similar size.
Certification: a named standard with a traceable certificate costs more than uncertified stock, and is what auditors accept.
Body and valve: coated or stainless bodies and brass valves cost more than plain steel with plastic heads, and last longer.
System scope: device count and addressable or conventional for alarms; pipework, valves and the pump set for sprinklers.
Service terms: a price including a year of servicing and refill after use cannot be compared with a bare unit price.

Common ABC powder and CO2 sizes are usually in stock in Dhaka and reach most sites within days. Certified or listed models for an audit, large orders of one model, alarm panels and sprinkler parts typically take 4 to 10 weeks including customs clearance, and systems need an approved design first. Which extinguisher do I need for an office or a factory floor?

For most offices and factory floors, ABC powder is the general choice. Add CO2 beside electrical panels and in server rooms, foam where fuel is stored, and a wet chemical unit in kitchens, as powder is the wrong tool for cooking oil. Send us the rooms and contents; the seller proposes the mix.

How often does an extinguisher need a service or refill?

Check each unit monthly: gauge in the green, pin and seal in place, no damage. Have it serviced yearly by a competent technician and refilled after any use, even a short burst. NFPA 10 sets these intervals; your fire licence may ask for more.

Why do quotes for the same extinguisher differ so much?

Usually because they are not the same unit. Check the agent, capacity, rating, certificate, valve material and fill date, and whether brackets, signs, delivery and a year of servicing are included. We set competing quotes out on one sheet with the same lines.

Can you supply UL listed or FM approved equipment for an audit?
