Buying cooling towers in Bangladesh

Cooling towers reject heat from water cooled chillers, moulding machines, compressors, generators and process plants by evaporating a small share of the circulating water. Factories in Gazipur, Narayanganj, Savar and Chattogram, and chiller plants in Dhaka buildings, are typical buyers. Monsoon wet bulb temperatures, hard or iron-rich make-up water and textile lint all shape the choice, so a cooling tower supplier in Bangladesh should select the tower at your site's design wet bulb, not a milder rating point.

You send the requirement once. We have verified sellers select at the same flow, temperatures and wet bulb, check thermal ratings, materials, fan power and references, and deliver the tower. The seller erects and commissions it. For spare fill and fans, send the tower's nameplate details and we source matching parts.

Cooling towers we source

Round FRP cooling towers

Bottle-shaped towers in fibre reinforced plastic with a central fan and rotating sprinkler, sold by nominal TR and common for small and medium loads. The nominal rating assumes set temperatures, so ask for performance at your flow, range and wet bulb, and check the sprinkler turns at low flow.

Crossflow towers

Water falls from open hot water basins across the fill while air flows sideways. A crossflow cooling tower is easy to inspect and clean while running and needs less pump head, but takes more plan area than counterflow, so it suits larger duties with space.

Counterflow towers

Air rises against water sprayed from pressurised nozzles, fitting more duty into less plan area, often as modular rectangular cells that suit large plants and later extension. Pump head is higher, which adds running cost, and nozzles and fill are harder to reach, so plan access.

Cooling tower fill

PVC film fill gives more cooling per volume than splash fill but clogs with dirty or lint-laden water; splash or low-fouling fill suits textile and process water. For hot process water, ask for a heat-resistant grade.

Cooling tower fans

Axial fans with FRP or aluminium blades, driven directly, through a gearbox or by belt. Specify blade material, an IP55 or better motor, a vibration switch and a variable speed drive for part load.

Closed circuit coolers

The process water runs inside a coil while spray water and air cool the outside, so the circuit stays clean. It suits induction furnaces, compressors and hydraulic systems, and costs more than an open tower for the same duty but avoids a separate heat exchanger and fouling.

How to specify a cooling tower

Flow and temperatures
Give circulating flow in m³ per hour and hot and cold water temperatures. Range is hot minus cold; approach is cold water minus wet bulb, and a smaller approach needs a much larger tower.
Design wet bulb
Select at the summer wet bulb for your site, from your consultant. It runs high in the Bangladesh monsoon, and a tower rated at a lower wet bulb delivers less here.
Heat load in kW
State heat rejection in kW. A cooling tower ton is 15,000 Btu per hour, not the 12,000 of a refrigeration ton, so compare like with like.
Water quality and lint
Give make-up water hardness, iron, TDS and suspended solids. For textile and process water, choose splash or low-fouling fill and an easily cleaned basin, or add a side-stream filter.
Structure and wind
Give the roof or ground location and the operating weight full of water to your structural engineer. Frames and anchors should be checked for BNBC 2020 wind loads, which are higher near the coast.
Noise and drift
State a noise limit in dB(A) at a set distance, and the drift loss the eliminators must meet as a percentage of circulating flow.
Materials
FRP, galvanised or stainless steel casing, basin and hardware. Near the coast or chemical plants, avoid plain steel parts.

Standards and tests to ask a cooling tower supplier in Bangladesh for

CTI STD-201
The Cooling Technology Institute's thermal performance certification for cooling towers. Ask whether the model line is certified, and for the certified selection at your conditions.
CTI ATC-105
The Cooling Technology Institute's acceptance test code for water cooling towers. For an uncertified tower or a large order, a field test to it or a written performance guarantee protects you.
ASHRAE 188
Sets out Legionella risk management for building water systems, including cooling towers. Ask for drift eliminators and a water management plan with biocide dosing, cleaning and sampling.
Handover records
Test run flows and temperatures, fan motor currents, vibration readings, water treatment settings, drawings, O&M manual and warranty certificates.

What moves the price of a cooling tower

  • Thermal duty: flow, range and, above all, how close the approach is to the wet bulb.
  • Type and build: round FRP, modular counterflow cells or field-erected crossflow towers, and whether basin and structure are included.
  • Materials: FRP, galvanised or stainless steel frames and hardware, and the fill type, sheet thickness and depth.
  • Fans and drives: direct drive, gearbox or belt, motor efficiency class and variable speed drives.
  • Extras: low-drift eliminators, sound attenuation, access platforms and side-stream filters.
  • Running cost: fan power, pump head, make-up water and treatment chemicals over the tower's life.

Lead times and delivery

Round FRP towers in common sizes, and common fill and fan sizes, can typically be delivered within 2 to 4 weeks. Larger or modular towers built to order usually take 6 to 12 weeks, plus sea freight and clearance at Chattogram when imported. Field-erected towers, stainless steel frames, certified tests and structural work on roofs add time. Roptan confirms each date in the quote.

We deliver to site across Bangladesh, including roof lifts in Dhaka. The seller erects, levels and anchors the tower, fills and flushes the basin, aligns the fan and checks rotation and vibration, sets the water distribution and records a test run with flows and temperatures. Handover includes drawings, the performance curve, the O&M manual, the water treatment plan and warranty certificates, with a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and installation recordWe confirm the licence and ask for towers of similar duty running in Bangladesh, with the client named, ideally on similar water.
  • Brand authorisationWhere the tower, fill, fan or motor is a branded import, we ask for the brand's letter authorising the seller for this quote, so thermal ratings and warranty are backed.
  • Warranty and after sales in writingWarranty on casing, fill, fan, motor and gearbox, service visits and prices for spare fill and nozzles, included or priced, confirmed before you commit.
  • A visit to a working installationBefore the order is placed, we arrange a visit to a running tower of the same type, so you can check noise, drift and access and ask about water treatment.

Questions buyers ask

How do I size a cooling tower for my chiller?

Take the chiller's heat rejection, which is its cooling capacity plus compressor heat, and the condenser water flow and temperatures from its data sheet, then select at your site's design wet bulb. That is why the heat the tower must reject is larger than the chiller's cooling capacity, and why two towers with the same TR label can differ widely in real duty.

Crossflow or counterflow: which suits a factory?

Crossflow suits sites that need easy cleaning and inspection while running, and have space. Counterflow fits more duty into less area. With dirty or lint-laden water, fill type and access matter more than airflow pattern, so choose splash or low-fouling fill either way.

Why is my cooling tower not reaching its design temperature?

Common causes are clogged or scaled fill, blocked nozzles, a fan running slow or with the wrong blade pitch, hot air recirculating from nearby walls, or a wet bulb above design. Measure flow, temperatures and wet bulb together before replacing anything.

How much water does a cooling tower use?

Evaporation is roughly 1 percent of the circulating flow for every 6 °C of range. Blowdown to control dissolved solids and a small drift loss are added. Higher cycles of concentration cut blowdown but need good water treatment, so ask sellers for make-up water at your duty and their drift loss figure.

Should I replace the fill or the whole tower?

If the casing, basin and structure are sound, new fill, nozzles and a fan overhaul often restore capacity for far less than a new tower. Send the nameplate details, fill dimensions and flute type, and we source matching fill for a planned shutdown. A cracked casing or a tower undersized from the start calls for a new tower.

How soon will I hear back about cooling towers?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
