What to tell a chemical supplier in Bangladesh

Name and CAS number

The chemical name and CAS number remove doubt; trade names alone make quotes hard to compare. For blends and auxiliaries, give the product type and its job in your process.

Grade and strength

Technical, food, pharmaceutical or reagent grade, and concentration as % by weight. Compare prices per kg of active chemical, not per drum.

Impurity limits

Where they matter, state limits for iron, chloride or heavy metals. Iron, for example, speeds peroxide breakdown and can damage cotton during bleaching.

Pack and delivery form

25 kg bags, 200 litre drums, 1,000 litre IBCs or bulk tanker, as your storage, handling equipment and dosing system allow; larger packs cost less per kg.

Compliance lists

Your buyers' restricted substance lists, the ZDHC MRSL conformance level needed, and REACH or food contact needs, product by product. Name them now; they narrow which products qualify.

Storage and trial

Covered, ventilated and bunded storage, above flood level and out of the sun, with acids, alkalis, oxidisers and flammables kept apart; and a jar test or lab dip approved before the first full order.

The Manufacturing Restricted Substances List many apparel brands require. Ask for each product's conformance level on the ZDHC Gateway, matched to the exact trade name.

The Environment Conservation Rules 2023 set effluent discharge standards; ETP chemicals are judged by whether your outlet meets them on BOD, COD, TSS and pH.

Licences for controlled chemicals

Sulphuric and hydrochloric acid are controlled under the Acid Control Act 2002, and some solvents and precursor chemicals need government licences to import, store or sell. We check the seller holds them; ask whether your own storage and use need one.

What moves the price of industrial chemicals

• Grade and purity: reagent, pharmaceutical and food grades cost far more than technical grade of the same chemical.
• Strength: compare price per kg of active content, not per kg of product; a lower-priced drum may simply hold a weaker solution.
• Pack and hazard: bulk and IBC deliveries cost less per kg than drums and bottles; dangerous goods cost more to ship and handle.
• Origin: many process chemicals and dyes are imported, so freight, duty and the exchange rate move prices.
• Compliance and terms: ZDHC-conformant and certified products often cost more than unlisted ones, and credit days are priced in.

Lead times and delivery

Common chemicals such as caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide, soda ash and standard ETP chemicals are usually in stock in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chattogram and deliver within one to seven days. Imported dyes, speciality auxiliaries and reagent grades typically take four to ten weeks, longer for dangerous goods, around Eid or when port congestion builds. Roptan confirms dates and minimums in the quote.

Chemicals travel by covered truck in sealed, labelled packs with the batch number on each, to your plant in Gazipur, Narayanganj, Savar, Ashulia or Chattogram; acids and caustics travel and store apart. For bulk lye or peroxide, agree the unloading steps and hose fittings before the tanker arrives. Documents: VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3), certificate of analysis for the batch and the SDS.
