Buying ship spare parts in Bangladesh

Shipowners and managers, inland and coastal vessel operators, dredging and fishing fleets, shipyards and repair workshops buy engine, deck and navigation parts for vessels at Chattogram (Chittagong), Mongla, Narayanganj and Khulna. Much of the trade sits in Chattogram, where the ship recycling yards at Sitakunda supply reconditioned parts alongside new stock from makers in Europe, Japan, Korea or China.

A ship spare parts supplier in Bangladesh may quote new, replacement or reconditioned parts under the same description, so like-for-like comparison matters. Send us the maker, model, serial number and part numbers. We source from verified sellers, confirm each part against the maker's manual, inspect reconditioned parts for wear, cracks and test results, and deliver to your vessel, yard or warehouse, or ship abroad.

Ship spare parts we source

Marine engine parts

Pistons, liners, rings, bearings, valves, gaskets and cylinder heads for two-stroke and four-stroke engines of European, Japanese, Korean or Chinese makes. Identify parts by engine model, serial number and the maker's part number; reconditioned parts need measured dimensions against wear limits.

Turbochargers

Complete turbochargers, cartridges, rotors, nozzle rings and bearings. Give the type and serial number from the nameplate, as internal parts differ between variants. On reconditioned units ask for the rotor balancing report and measured bearing clearances.

Fuel injection pumps

Fuel pumps, plunger and barrel elements, delivery valves and injectors. Worn parts waste fuel and cause smoke. Reconditioned pumps should come with a test bench report showing delivery calibration, and injectors with opening pressure and spray pattern tested.

Deck machinery

Anchor windlasses, mooring winches, capstans, hydraulic motors and deck crane parts, often reconditioned from recycled ships. State the machine type, rated pull or safe working load, and electric or hydraulic drive. Ask for a run test, photos and a brake holding test after overhaul.

Marine valves

Gate, globe, check, butterfly and storm valves for sea water, fuel and steam lines. Give the material, the flange standard (JIS, DIN or ANSI), the pressure rating such as JIS 5K or 10K and the size, and ask for a shell and seat pressure test record.

Navigation equipment

Radars, GNSS receivers, AIS, echo sounders, gyrocompasses and marine VHF radios. Ships in international trade need type approved units that meet SOLAS Chapter V and the flag state's rules, so ask for approval papers and a working test, especially on used units.

What to send a ship spare parts supplier in Bangladesh

Equipment identity
Maker, model and serial number from the nameplate, with a clear photo. Parts change between engine series and serial ranges, so the model alone is not enough.
Part numbers and photos
The part number and item number from the maker's manual, with quantities. Where the number is worn off, send dimensions and photos of the old part, or the part itself.
Condition accepted
State whether you accept new parts from the maker, new replacement parts from another maker, or reconditioned parts, for each line. Price, lead time, warranty and documents differ for each.
Certificates
Say whether a class society certificate, a maker's certificate or a test report is required. Your superintendent and class society decide, and certificates cannot always be added later.
Delivery point and urgency
Give the port or anchorage, vessel name, local agent and arrival date, or the yard address. Say if the vessel is waiting, as that decides air freight or local stock.
Tests before dispatch
List the tests you need: pressure test, bench test, balancing report, crack detection by dye penetrant or magnetic particle, or a running test for motors, with reports and photos before you pay.

Certificates, class rules and test records

Class society certificate
Issued by the vessel's class society, usually an IACS member for ocean-going ships, for parts its rules cover. Tell us early, as certified new parts take longer.
SOLAS Chapter V
Sets carriage requirements for navigation equipment on ships in international trade. Replacement radars, GNSS, AIS and gyros must be of an approved type and meet the flag state's rules.
IEC 60945 and IEC 61162
IEC 60945 covers general requirements and tests for marine navigation and radio equipment; IEC 61162 covers the data interfaces between units. Check both when mixing makes.
Test records
Shell and seat pressure tests, such as those in API 598, for reconditioned valves; dye penetrant or magnetic particle testing for cracks in heads, liners and shafts; bench tests for pumps and injectors; balancing for rotors. These reports are the evidence of condition.

What moves the price of ship spare parts

  • Condition: new parts from the maker cost most, new replacement parts less, and reconditioned parts least, with shorter warranties.
  • Engine age and rarity: parts for older or less common engines are harder to find, which raises the price of good stock.
  • Certificates and testing: class and maker certificates, balancing, bench tests and crack detection add cost and time.
  • Size and weight: crankshafts, liners and deck machinery cost more to handle, pack and ship.
  • Urgency: air freight for a waiting vessel, or a launch to an anchorage with port paperwork, can cost more than the part.

Lead times and delivery

Reconditioned parts held in stock around Chattogram can often be inspected and dispatched within days. New parts from stock in Bangladesh or the region usually take 1 to 3 weeks; parts ordered from the maker abroad typically take 3 to 8 weeks, or less by air freight for urgent cases. Parts needing class certificates or overhaul take longer. Roptan confirms availability, condition and dates in the quote.

We deliver to vessels at berth or anchorage in Chattogram and Mongla through the seller, to shipyards and dockyards, and to warehouses anywhere in Bangladesh. Parts are packed against rust and damage, each tagged with its part number, with photos and test reports sent before dispatch. You receive a packing list, test reports, certificates where ordered, the warranty or return terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3) for local sales.

Buying ship spare parts for export

Foreign buyers source reconditioned engine, turbocharger, pump, valve and deck machinery parts from the recycling yards around Chattogram. Send part numbers or engine details; we check identity and condition, share photos, measurements and test reports for your approval before payment, and can arrange an independent inspection. Parts ship FOB Chattogram by sea, crated with rust protection, or by air from Dhaka, with a commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and the bill of lading or air waybill.

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and registrationCurrent trade licence in the name on the quote and, for export orders, an Export Registration Certificate.
  • Part identity confirmedPart number, engine model and serial range checked against the maker's manual and the markings on the part, so it fits first time.
  • Condition evidenceFor reconditioned parts: measurements against wear limits, crack detection and bench, balancing or pressure test reports, with photos, before dispatch.
  • Warranty and return termsWhat happens if a part does not fit or fails on first use: replacement, refund or credit, and within what time, written into the quote.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between genuine, replacement and reconditioned parts?

Genuine parts come new from the engine or equipment maker. Replacement parts are new but made by another maker to the same dimensions, usually at a lower price. Reconditioned parts are recovered, mostly from recycled ships, then cleaned, measured, repaired and tested. We state the condition on every quote line.

Are reconditioned parts from Chattogram reliable?

They can be good value when checked properly. Ask for measurements against the maker's wear limits, test results for pumps, injectors and turbochargers, and clear photos of markings. For safety-critical items, use them only if your superintendent or class society accepts them.

How do you check a reconditioned turbocharger?

We ask the seller for the rotor balancing report, measured bearing clearances, a crack check on the casing and nozzle ring, and photos before dispatch, and we match the nameplate type and serial to your unit, as internal parts differ between variants.

Can you deliver to a ship at Chattogram anchorage?

Yes, through the seller. Give the vessel name, local agent, anchorage and arrival date. The seller or agent arranges the launch and the port paperwork, and the ship's officer signs the delivery note as proof of delivery.

What warranty comes with reconditioned parts?

It varies by seller and part, and some sell reconditioned parts as seen. With reconditioned parts you usually get the seller's inspection and test reports rather than maker or class certificates. Ask for written terms: the period or running hours covered, what counts as a failure, and refund or replacement.

How soon will I hear back about ship spare parts?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the part number or specification, where it is needed and by when.
