Buying measuring instruments and meters in Bangladesh

Textile and dyeing mills, effluent treatment plants, boiler houses, water suppliers, food and pharmaceutical plants, laboratories and maintenance teams in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Savar and Chattogram buy instruments to measure flow, pH, conductivity, temperature, pressure and level. Readings run processes, show effluent quality and support ISO 9001 audits, so the calibration certificate matters as much as the instrument.

A measuring instrument supplier in Bangladesh often quotes a model number. What you need is the right range, wetted materials, output and certificate for your process. Tell us the medium, the pipe or tank, the range and the signal. We source from verified sellers, check datasheets and calibration certificates, and deliver. The seller commissions inline meters on site. You deal with Roptan only.

Measuring instruments and meters we source

Flow meters

Electromagnetic meters measure conductive liquids, typically above 5 µS/cm, such as water, effluent and sludge; they do not suit oils, and the pipe must stay full. Water meters to ISO 4064 are rated by Q3 and the ratio R: a higher R reads low flows better.

pH and conductivity meters

A pH meter uses a glass electrode and a reference electrode, calibrated with at least two buffer solutions that span the range, often pH 4 and 10, with temperature compensation. Conductivity meters show how well water conducts, a guide to dissolved salts. Keep probes moist.

Digital thermometers

Contact thermometers and process probes, mostly Pt100 resistance sensors to IEC 60751 with tolerance classes such as F0.3, F0.15 and F0.1. Three-wire connection removes most lead error; four-wire is more accurate. State range, probe length and the process fitting.

Infrared thermometers

Read surface temperature without contact. Compare the distance-to-spot ratio, where 12:1 reads a spot about 25 mm wide from 300 mm away, and adjustable emissivity, since shiny metal reads wrong. Simple units read to about plus or minus 2 °C.

Pressure gauges and transmitters

Bourdon tube gauges to EN 837-1, often glycerine-filled where there is vibration, commonly in accuracy class 1.0 or 1.6. Transmitters send a 4 to 20 mA signal. State gauge or absolute pressure, range, units, connection and output.

Level sensors

Submersible pressure sensors, ultrasonic sensors for clean liquids, radar or guided-wave radar for foam, turbulence or vapour, and floats for on and off switching. Output is normally 4 to 20 mA; corrosive liquids need PVDF or PTFE wetted parts.

What to tell a measuring instrument supplier in Bangladesh

Medium and conditions
Name the liquid, gas or surface, its temperature and pressure, and whether it is corrosive, dirty or foaming. That sets the sensor type and wetted materials.
Range and units
Give normal and maximum values in the units you use, such as bar, kPa, m3/h or °C. For gauges, pick a range so steady pressure stays within about three quarters of full scale.
Pipe or tank details
For flow meters, give pipe size and material and confirm the pipe runs full; follow the maker's straight-run figure for the chosen model. For level, give tank height, shape and fittings.
Output and power
Say whether you need a local display, a 4 to 20 mA signal to a PLC, or a logger. Field points on a 24 V loop need a stable supply, surge protection and good earthing.
Heat, humidity and wash-down
Summers reach 38 to 41 °C and July humidity 94 to 100 percent. Specify IP65 or IP67 housings and proper cable glands for outdoor, effluent and wash-down areas.
Calibration certificate
Ask for a certificate traceable to SI units from a laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, with the calibration points and uncertainty you need.
Trade or plant use
Say if the meter is used for billing or trade. BSTI's verification and stamping schedule lists water, flow and energy meters and pressure gauges, so ask whether it applies to that use.

Calibration, standards and paperwork for instruments

ISO/IEC 17025 and BAB accreditation
The Bangladesh Accreditation Board accredits calibration laboratories to ISO/IEC 17025 and has been an ILAC MRA signatory for calibration since 29 June 2015, so its certificates are recognised abroad.
BSTI metrology
BSTI's metrology wing and its National Metrology Laboratory calibrate measuring devices to the SI. In September 2025 BSTI cut its calibration fees by about half on average.
Weights and Measures Rules
The verification and stamping schedule lists thermometers, water, gas, liquid, flow and energy meters and pressure gauges. Ask whether it applies where a meter is used for trade or billing.
ISO 4064 for water meters
Covers meters for cold potable and hot water, harmonised with OIML R 49:2013. Meters are rated by permanent flowrate Q3 and the ratio R = Q3/Q1.
IEC 60751 and EN 837-1
IEC 60751 sets tolerance classes for Pt100 sensors, such as F0.15; EN 837-1 covers Bourdon tube pressure gauges and their accuracy classes.

What moves the price of a measuring instrument

  • Measuring principle: electromagnetic, ultrasonic and radar instruments cost more than mechanical meters, floats and dial gauges.
  • Accuracy: tighter tolerance classes, a higher R ratio on water meters and lower uncertainty cost more.
  • Wetted materials: PTFE, PVDF or stainless steel parts for corrosive liquids add to the price.
  • Output and display: transmitters with 4 to 20 mA output, loggers and remote displays cost more than local gauges.
  • Housing: IP65 or IP67 housings, hazardous-area builds and long cable runs raise the price.
  • Calibration: a multi-point certificate from an accredited laboratory costs more than a maker's test sheet, and carries weight in audits.

Lead times and delivery

Instruments in stock in Bangladesh can ship quickly. Large flow meters, radar level sensors and special ranges or materials are often imported to order, so build time, sea transit and clearance at Chattogram port add time, and a local calibration certificate adds its own turnaround. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Gazipur to Khulna. Handheld and bench meters arrive tested with their certificates, as do bench instruments such as digital storage oscilloscopes, chosen by bandwidth, sample rate, channels and probes. For inline meters, transmitters and level sensors, the seller installs, wires and commissions them and checks the signal at your panel. You receive certificates, manuals, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and import documentsA current licence in the quoted name and import papers for the instruments, so the VAT invoice and warranty come from the business you pay.
  • Brand authorisation or stated originThe maker's authorisation, or the origin stated plainly, with the exact model checked against its datasheet for range, materials and output.
  • Calibration and spares in BangladeshWho recalibrates and repairs the instrument here, and who holds electrodes, buffer solutions, probes and seals, so one failure does not stop the process.
  • Warranty in writingPeriod, what is covered, and exclusions such as broken electrodes or wrong installation, written into the quote.

Questions buyers ask

Which flow meter should I use for water or effluent?

For conductive liquids such as water, effluent and sludge, an electromagnetic meter is a common choice: no moving parts, but the pipe must stay full and the liquid must conduct, typically above 5 µS/cm. It does not suit oils. For billing water, ask for a meter to ISO 4064. Send pipe size, flow range and liquid.

Do flow meters and pressure gauges need BSTI stamping?

BSTI's verification and stamping schedule lists water, flow and energy meters and pressure gauges. Where a meter is used for trade or billing, ask BSTI whether verification applies before you install it. For measurement inside your plant, keep a traceable calibration certificate from an accredited laboratory, which is what ISO 9001 audits look for.

Where can I get instruments calibrated in Bangladesh?

At a laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board, recognised abroad through ILAC. BAB-accredited laboratories near Dhaka, in Narayanganj for example, calibrate temperature and pressure gauges, sensors and electrical instruments, and BSTI's metrology wing also calibrates. Ask for the points and uncertainty you need; you set the interval.

How do I keep a pH meter accurate?

Calibrate with at least two buffer solutions that span your range, often pH 4 and 10, and a third point for higher accuracy, with temperature compensation on. Store the electrode moist, never dry, and keep it clean. Order spare electrodes and buffer solutions with the meter.

Can an infrared thermometer replace a contact probe?

For quick surface checks on motors, panels, bearings and steam lines, often yes. The spot grows with distance, so compare the distance-to-spot ratio, and set emissivity because shiny metal reads wrong. Simple units are about plus or minus 2 °C. For process control or tighter accuracy, use a Pt100 contact probe.

How soon will I hear back about measuring instruments and meters?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the model or specification, where it is needed and by when.
