Buying machine tools and metalworking machines in Bangladesh

Machine shops, spare parts makers, light engineering firms, shipyards, fabricators and factory maintenance teams in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram (Chittagong) buy machine tools to turn, mill, drill, cut, mark, weld and heat-treat metal. Some need a manual lathe for repairs; others a CNC machining centre or fibre laser for production. For an imported machine, documents, spares and local service matter as much as the machine.

A machine tools supplier in Bangladesh often quotes a model and a price. You need a machine that holds your tolerances on your power supply, with spares within reach. Tell us the parts, materials and output. We turn it into one specification, source from verified sellers, check the machine and documents, and deliver. The seller installs and commissions it. You deal with Roptan only.

Machine tools and metalworking machines we source

Lathe machines

A lathe turns a rotating workpiece against a cutting tool. Size it by swing over bed, the largest diameter it can turn, distance between centres, the longest part, and spindle bore. Centre lathes suit repair work; turret lathes suit repeat parts.

Milling and drilling machines

Milling machines cut faces, slots and profiles with a rotating cutter; drilling machines make and tap holes. State table size, axis travel and spindle power. A manual mill suits toolrooms; a machining centre suits batch production.

CNC machines

Computer numerical control moves the tool on programmed axes, usually X, Y and Z, written in G-code and M-code. Four and five axis machines reach complex parts in fewer set-ups. Closed-loop feedback is more accurate and repeatable than cheaper open-loop control.

Laser marking and cutting machines

Fibre lasers suit metal, including reflective copper and brass; CO2 lasers cut steel, aluminium, plastic, wood and fabric. Both need assist gas and fume and dust extraction. Ask for the laser class under IEC 60825-1: a fully enclosed machine can be class 1.

Welding machines

Inverter machines are lighter and give finer control than transformer sets; engine-driven sets work away from mains. Constant current suits stick (MMA) and TIG, constant voltage suits MIG/MAG and flux-cored wire. Compare duty cycles at the same current.

Induction heating machines

A water-cooled copper coil heats the part itself with eddy currents. About 5 to 30 kHz suits thick parts; about 100 to 400 kHz suits small parts or shallow heating. The machine needs a chiller or cooling water to run.

How to brief a machine tools supplier in Bangladesh

Part, material and tolerance
Send a drawing or sample of typical parts, the material and hardness, and the tolerance and finish you must hold. That sets machine size, rigidity and control.
Size and capacity
For lathes give swing and length between centres; for mills and CNC machines give axis travel and table size; for lasers give sheet size and thickness.
Output and shifts
State parts per shift, shifts per day and the training your operators need. Repair work and long batch runs need different machines.
Power supply
Machines run on three phase 50 Hz. Load shedding and voltage swings damage CNC controls and drives, so plan a stabiliser, surge protection, earthing and a supply sized for the machine.
Heat and humidity
Summer maxima of 38 to 41 °C and July humidity of 94 to 100 percent rust bare ways. Ask for way covers, rust-preventive oil and a cooled electrical cabinet.
Accuracy test report
Ask for positioning accuracy and repeatability tested to ISO 230-2, or to ISO 10791-4 for machining centres, with the report for your machine rather than a brochure figure.
New or used
Second-hand or reconditioned machinery may need a pre-shipment inspection and other certificates at customs. Confirm the current Import Policy Order terms before you agree to a used machine.

Standards and paperwork for machine tools

ISO 230-2 and ISO 10791-4
ISO 230-2 tests the positioning accuracy and repeatability of numerically controlled axes; ISO 10791-4 applies it to the axes of machining centres. Ask for the test report of your machine.
ISO 23125 and ISO 16090-1
Safety requirements for turning machines (ISO 23125:2015) and for milling machines, machining centres and transfer machines (ISO 16090-1:2022). Ask which one the machine follows.
IEC 60974-1 for welding machines
Safety and performance of arc welding power sources and plasma cutting systems for industrial and professional use. Limited-duty machines fall under IEC 60974-6.
IEC 60825-1 laser classes
Classes run from 1 to 4. An enclosed machine can be class 1; an open one needs class 3B or 4 precautions and eyewear rated by optical density at the laser wavelength.
CE marking under 2006/42/EC
The seller's declaration of conformity with the EU Machinery Directive. A useful reference for an imported machine, not a Bangladeshi approval.

What moves the price of a machine tool

  • Size and capacity: swing, axis travel, table or sheet size set the machine's weight and price.
  • Control and axes: CNC, closed-loop feedback and a fourth or fifth axis cost more than manual or 3 axis machines.
  • Laser source and enclosure: laser power, source type and a class 1 enclosure move laser prices most.
  • Accessories: chucks, tool holders, fume extraction, chillers and a stabiliser are often left out of a bare price.
  • Service: commissioning, training, spares held in Bangladesh and the warranty period change what you get.
  • New or used: a reconditioned machine costs less but may need inspection certificates and carries more risk on spares.

Lead times and delivery

Machines in stock in Bangladesh can move quickly. Machines imported to order add the maker's build time, sea transit and clearance at Chattogram port, and each of those can take weeks. Used machines can wait on inspection papers. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Gazipur to Khulna. Heavy machines need a crane or forklift, clear access and a level floor or foundation. The seller installs, levels and commissions the machine, runs trial parts with you and trains your operators. You receive the test report, manuals, the spare parts list, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and import documentsA current licence in the quoted name, and the bill of entry or import papers for the machine.
  • Brand authorisation or stated originThe maker's authorisation, or the origin stated plainly, new or reconditioned, with the year of manufacture.
  • Spare parts and service in BangladeshWho holds spares and service engineers here and how fast they respond, since a part imported after a breakdown can mean weeks of downtime.
  • Warranty in writingPeriod, whether it runs from delivery or commissioning, cover and exclusions, written into the quote.

Questions buyers ask

Should I buy a CNC machine or a manual lathe?

It depends on volume and complexity. A manual lathe or mill suits repair work, one-off parts and short runs, and needs a skilled operator. A CNC machine suits repeat parts and complex shapes, and needs a programmer, a stable supply and spares. Send typical drawings and monthly quantities and we compare both in one quote.

Fibre laser or CO2 laser: which do I need?

For metal, usually a fibre laser, which also handles reflective copper and brass. A CO2 laser cuts steel and aluminium as well as plastic, wood and fabric, so it suits mixed materials. Either way, plan assist gas and fume extraction, and ask for the laser class under IEC 60825-1.

What does duty cycle mean on a welding machine?

It is the share of a 10-minute period the machine can weld at its rated current before it must cool. At 60 percent, it welds for 6 minutes and rests for 4. Compare machines at the same current: a duty cycle quoted at low current flatters the machine.

Can you source a used or reconditioned machine?

Yes, where a seller has one that fits. Second-hand capital machinery may need a pre-shipment inspection and a longevity certificate for customs, and a new Import Policy Order for 2026 to 2029 was gazetted in August 2026. Confirm its current terms with your clearing agent before you buy; we check the machine's documents and condition.

What power supply does a CNC machine or induction heater need?

A three phase 50 Hz supply sized for the machine, with correct earthing. Voltage swings and load shedding damage controls, drives and power units, so add a stabiliser and surge protection. An induction heater also needs cooling water or a chiller. The seller confirms the requirement in writing.

How soon will I hear back about machine tools and metalworking machines?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the model or specification, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
