Buying weighing scales and weighbridges in Bangladesh

Factories, warehouses, rice and feed mills, steel and cement plants, land ports, superstores and shops in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram (Chittagong) weigh goods for production, dispatch and sale. Weighbridges weigh trucks at mill gates and ports, platform and bench scales weigh in stores and on lines, crane scales weigh suspended loads, and price computing scales sell by weight at the counter.

A weighing scale supplier in Bangladesh often quotes capacity and little else. A scale used to buy or sell by weight must also be verified and stamped by BSTI, so documents matter as much as load cells. Tell us the loads, the accuracy and the use. We source from verified sellers, check models and papers, and deliver. The seller installs and calibrates on site. You deal with Roptan only.

Weighing scales and weighbridges we source

Platform scales

A steel platform on load cells with a separate indicator, for sacks, cartons, pallets and drums. State maximum load, readability, platform size and whether forklifts or pallet trucks drive on, since that sets deck strength and ramps.

Weighbridges

Weigh whole road vehicles. Pit-mounted decks sit flush with the road; pitless decks sit on the surface with ramps and need less civil work. Capacities commonly run from 50 or 60 tonnes on a 9 m deck to 80 or 100 tonnes on a 16 m deck, with steel or concrete decks.

Bench and table scales

Compact scales for parts, samples, food and packing lines; counting versions give quantity from weight. State capacity and readability, pan size, and whether you need a printer, a data output or a stainless steel build for wet or food areas.

Crane scales

Hang from a crane or hoist hook to weigh suspended loads such as coils, bales and bags. State maximum load, hook type and the headroom available, and whether you need a remote display at floor level.

Load cells and indicators

Strain gauge load cells are the type most used in industry, and a truck weighbridge sits on several sealed compression cells. Cells, junction box and indicator are specified separately, so match capacity, sealing and cable length.

Price computing scales

Show weight, unit price and total price, and can print a label or receipt. Used at superstore, fish and meat counters and in shops selling by weight. As trade scales they must read in metric units and be verified and stamped.

What to tell a weighing scale supplier in Bangladesh

Maximum load and readability
State the heaviest load and the smallest division you need to read. Both set the load cells, the indicator and the price.
Trade or internal use
Say whether the weight is used to buy, sell or bill. Trade scales must be verified and stamped by BSTI; internal process scales still need traceable calibration.
Accuracy class
OIML R 76 sorts non-automatic scales into classes I special, II high, III medium and IIII ordinary. Ask which class the scale is built to and compare quotes on the same class.
Site and civil work
For a weighbridge, give vehicle length, axle loads, pit or pitless choice and space for ramps. Foundations must cure fully, approaches must be level and drainage must stop water pooling.
Lightning and humidity
Northwester storms between March and May and humid summers call for sealed load cells and junction boxes, good earthing, and surge protection on load cell cables and the indicator.
Power supply
Load shedding and voltage swings upset indicators and weighbridge software. Put the indicator and ticket computer on a UPS with surge protection, and say if you need printed tickets or a software link.
Calibration on site
Gravity varies by over 0.5 percent across the earth, so a load cell scale is calibrated where it is used, with test weights, not shipped pre-set.

Law, standards and paperwork for scales

Standards of Weights and Measures Act 2018
Replaced the 1982 Ordinance and is enforced by BSTI. An inspector verifies a commercial scale and fixes a seal or stamp, and a commercial weighing instrument may not be sold or used without it.
Weights and Measures Rules
The verification and stamping schedule, amended by gazette on 29 May 2024, groups weighing instruments by capacity from up to 50 kg to above 50 tonnes, so weighbridges are inside the scheme.
BSTI approvals and licences
The law and Rules provide for model examination of digital scales, manufacturer, repairer and calibrator licences, dealer registration and an import registration certificate. Ask the seller which it holds.
OIML R 76
The international recommendation for non-automatic weighing instruments, with four accuracy classes set by the verification interval and number of intervals. Use it to compare quotes like for like.
ISO/IEC 17025 calibration
Calibration certificates should come from a laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board, an ILAC MRA signatory for calibration since 29 June 2015.

What moves the price of a weighing scale or weighbridge

  • Capacity and platform size: a longer, higher capacity weighbridge needs more steel or concrete and more load cells.
  • Load cells and build: sealed cells, stainless steel and higher accuracy classes cost more than basic models.
  • Civil work: pit construction, foundations, ramps and drainage are often priced separately from the scale.
  • Indicator and software: printing, data links, remote displays and ticketing software add to the base price.
  • Protection: lightning and surge protection and a UPS add cost and cut downtime after storms and power cuts.
  • Calibration and verification: test weights, on-site calibration and BSTI verification fees should all be in the quote.

Lead times and delivery

Scales in stock in Bangladesh can move quickly. Imported scales and load cells add sea transit and clearance at Chattogram port, which can take weeks. A weighbridge also needs civil work, curing and verification before trade use. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Gazipur to Mongla. For a weighbridge, the civil work is finished and cured first; the seller then places the deck, wires the load cells and checks it with approved test weights and a test truck. You receive the calibration record, verification and stamping papers for trade use, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and import documentsA current licence in the quoted name, and the import registration and papers for the scale, so it can be verified and stamped.
  • Brand authorisation or stated originThe maker's authorisation for the seller, or the scale's origin stated plainly, with model examination papers where the model has them.
  • Calibration and service in BangladeshWho calibrates and repairs the scale here, under which licence, and how fast they come when a load cell or indicator fails.
  • Warranty in writingPeriod, cover for load cells and indicator, and any lightning or surge exclusions, in the quote.

Questions buyers ask

Does a weighing scale need BSTI verification?

Yes, if it is used in trade. Under the Standards of Weights and Measures Act 2018, an inspector verifies a commercial scale and fixes a seal or stamp, and an unverified one may not be sold or used for trade. BSTI enforces this through inspections and mobile courts. Scales used only inside a process still need traceable calibration.

Pit or pitless weighbridge: which suits my site?

A pit weighbridge sits flush with the road and needs no ramps, which suits tight yards, but the pit needs drainage that copes with monsoon rain. A pitless weighbridge sits on the surface with ramps and needs less civil work. Tell us the yard size, vehicles and drainage, and we compare both.

Steel deck or concrete deck?

A steel deck goes on quickly once the foundation has cured. A concrete deck can last better on very wet or corrosive sites, but it takes longer to pour, dry and cure. For yards that flood or handle salt, cement or fertiliser, consider concrete, with sealed load cells and junction boxes either way.

Can a scale bought abroad be used in Bangladesh?

Yes, with the right papers. It must read in metric units only, and importing weighing instruments needs a registration certificate under the Act. Because gravity varies slightly between places, it is calibrated on site with test weights, ideally by a laboratory accredited by the Bangladesh Accreditation Board, then verified and stamped for trade use.

How do I protect a weighbridge from lightning and power cuts?

Earth the deck and indicator well, fit surge protectors on the load cell cables and the supply, and use sealed load cells and junction boxes, since northwester storms between March and May bring lightning. Put the indicator and ticket computer on a UPS so load shedding does not lose a weighing.

How soon will I hear back about weighing scales and weighbridges?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the model or specification, where it is needed and by when.
