Buying agricultural and garden machinery in Bangladesh

Machinery service providers, farmers' groups, agro companies, dairy farms and estate managers buy farm and garden machines. Most cropped land in Bangladesh is tilled by power tillers and tractors, and harvesters are the growth area. Engines, tillers, reapers and combines are almost all imported, while most threshers and sprayers are made locally.

An agricultural machinery supplier in Bangladesh often sells the machine and leaves service to chance. You need the right model, spares and a mechanic within reach when it breaks in the season. Tell us the work and the area. We source from verified sellers, check model, origin and warranty papers, and deliver. You deal with Roptan only.

Agricultural and garden machinery we source

Power tillers

A self-propelled single-axle machine, typically 5 to 18 hp with a single-cylinder diesel engine, used with a rotary tiller and also to pull a trailer or drive a pump. Specify engine power, cooling type, blade count and working width.

Reapers and combine harvesters

A reaper cuts the crop and lays it in a row; a combine harvester cuts, threshes and cleans grain in one pass. Combines come mainly from China and Thailand; ask for the country of manufacture and grain tank size.

Brush cutters and lawn mowers

Brush cutters clear grass, weeds and scrub with nylon line or a metal blade; lawn mowers cut even turf, walk-behind or ride-on. Choose by area, ground and power: two-stroke or four-stroke petrol, battery or mains electric.

Sprayers and fogger machines

Knapsack sprayers, manual or battery, and motorised sprayers apply crop protection; thermal and ultra-low-volume (ULV) foggers treat air and spaces against mosquitoes and pests. Match the machine to the formulation, and ask for spare nozzles and seals.

Milking machines

Machines that milk cows or buffaloes by vacuum through teat cups, from a mobile bucket unit to a pipeline system. Ask for the vacuum pump capacity, the number of milking units, the cleaning system and the standard it was built to.

Rice threshers and dryers

Threshers separate grain from the cut crop and are mostly built locally, with diesel or electric drive. Dryers bring paddy down to about 12 to 14 percent moisture for safe storage. Ask for throughput per hour or per batch, and the fuel.

What to tell an agricultural machinery supplier in Bangladesh

The job and the land
Say what the machine must do, over how much land, and the soil and plot size. Small plots and wet paddy fields call for lighter, narrower machines.
Crop and season
Name the crop and season. Combines work mainly in the boro season, so delivery, training and the first service must be done before it starts.
Engine and fuel
State diesel, petrol or electric, the power in hp or kW and the cooling type, and ask whether parts for that engine are sold locally.
Country of manufacture
Brand and origin can differ: some makers build models for this market in Japan, Thailand or China. Ask for the country of manufacture on the quote.
Heat, dust and damp
Summers usually reach 38 to 41 °C and the monsoon is humid. Ask for the maker's rated ambient temperature and protected wiring for machines kept in open sheds.
Training and a Bangla manual
Ask for operator training and a manual in Bangla. In one survey of combine harvester service providers, only 21 percent received operator training.
New or used
Used machinery import rules are set by the current Import Policy Order. If you will consider a used machine, confirm those rules for it before you commit.

Tests, standards and paperwork for farm machinery

No mandatory test certificate
At last report Bangladesh had no mandatory test or certification for farm machinery, and BSTI had no standard for it. Question a claim that a tiller or harvester is BSTI approved.
RNAM and ANTAM test codes
Regional test codes for agricultural machinery, used in some cases but voluntary. Ask the seller for any test report and which code it followed.
Mechanization Policy 2020 and Action Plan 2023
Both provide for a testing and certification system, and a national standardisation committee was formed in February 2025. Check for any new rule before you order.
ISO 5707 for milking machines
The international standard for the construction and performance of milking machine installations. Ask whether the machine was built to it and for the vacuum test record.
Warranty documents
In the same survey only 37 percent of combine service providers received warranty documents. Get the warranty in writing and in the owner's name before you pay.

What moves the price of agricultural machinery

  • Engine power and type: diesel, petrol or electric, and whether parts for that engine are sold locally.
  • Origin: Japanese, Thai, Chinese or locally made machines differ in price, spares cost and service network.
  • Size and capacity: working width, grain tank volume, and threshing or drying throughput.
  • After-sales: training, a spare-parts kit and service visits in the season, included or priced separately.

Lead times and delivery

Power tillers, brush cutters, sprayers and threshers are often held in stock by sellers in Bangladesh. Combine harvesters and milking systems may be imported to order, and container dwell time at Chattogram stayed above 11 days through 2025. Order seasonal machines well before the season. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity for each order in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Gazipur to Khulna and Sylhet. The seller assembles and tests the machine, runs it with your operator, explains daily checks and the first service, and hands over the toolkit. You receive the operator manual, in Bangla where available, the warranty card in your name, the spares list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and import documentsCurrent licence in the quoted name, and import papers for an imported machine, so model and origin match the quote.
  • Brand authorisation or originAuthorisation from the maker, or the country of manufacture stated plainly on the quote and the invoice.
  • Spare parts and serviceWho holds spares in Bangladesh, where the nearest mechanic is, and how fast a breakdown in the season is attended.
  • Warranty in writingPeriod, parts covered, exclusions and operator training, written down and in your name.

Questions buyers ask

Is there a government approval for farm machinery in Bangladesh?

Not a mandatory one at last report. BSTI had no standard for farm machinery, and the earlier test system ended in 1989. A national standardisation committee was formed in February 2025. Some sellers hold reports to the voluntary RNAM or ANTAM codes: ask for them, and check for new rules before you order.

When should I order a combine harvester?

Well before the boro season, when combines do most of their work. Leave time for import, clearance, delivery, operator training and a first check. A machine that arrives after the season waits a year for work. Tell us your harvest dates and we ask sellers for delivery dates that fit.

What after-sales should I ask for on a harvester?

Warranty papers, operator training, a Bangla manual and a named service point. In one survey, only 37 percent of combine service providers got warranty documents and 21 percent got training, and breakdowns cost an average of 12 days a year. We get these terms written into the quote.

Which fogger machine do I need?

It depends on the space and the insecticide. Thermal foggers make a dense, visible fog for drains and outdoor areas; ULV foggers make fine droplets without heat. Choose by the formulation on the label and the area, and ask for spare nozzles with the order.

Can you supply a grass cutting machine for a large compound?

Yes. Tell us the area, the ground and whether there are slopes, edges or rough grass. Walk-behind lawn mowers suit even lawns, ride-on mowers cover large areas, and brush cutters handle edges, banks and scrub. We source petrol, battery or electric models with blades, line and spares included.

How soon will I hear back about agricultural and garden machinery?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the model or specification, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
