Buying electrical fittings and installation materials in Bangladesh

Contractors, developers, factories, hospitals and data rooms in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram buy installation materials against a bill of quantities: trays and ladders to carry cables, busbar trunking (BBT) to move high currents through a building, switches and sockets for every room, and earthing and lightning protection to keep people and equipment safe. Lightning kills 300 or more people a year in Bangladesh.

An electrical fittings supplier in Bangladesh may quote fittings that look alike on paper but differ in sheet thickness, coating, current rating and test evidence. Send us the drawings or the bill of quantities. We turn it into one specification, source from verified sellers, check type test reports against the models quoted, inspect materials before dispatch and deliver to site. The seller or your electrical contractor installs. You deal with Roptan only.

Electrical fittings and installation materials we source

Cable trays and ladders

Trays carry and support cable runs: ladder types for heavy power cables, perforated or solid-bottom trays for smaller cables, wire-mesh baskets for data. Use galvanised steel in dry areas, and stainless steel, aluminium or glass-fibre reinforced plastic where air is wet or corrosive.

Busbar trunking systems

Busbars in a metal casing that carry current from the main board to floors or machines, with plug-in tap-off units along the run. Used in tall buildings and factories in place of large parallel cables. Specify a type-tested system to IEC 61439-6.

Switches and sockets

Wall switches, socket outlets, switched sockets and plates for homes, offices and hotels. State current rating, socket pattern, gang count, colour, finish and box type per room, and keep one range across the building so spares match.

Lightning protection systems

Air terminals, down conductors and earth electrodes that carry a strike safely to ground. Design follows a risk assessment under the IEC 62305 series, using the rolling sphere or mesh method. Ask for a conventional design, not early streamer emission rods.

Earthing materials

Earth rods, copper or galvanised strips, clamps, inspection pits and backfill compound that give fault current and lightning a low-resistance path to ground. The target earth resistance comes from the designer; measure it after installation and again in the dry season.

Conduits and distribution boards

PVC or steel conduit protects wiring in walls, slabs and exposed runs. Distribution boards house the circuit breakers for each circuit. Specify ways, incomer rating, breaker type and enclosure rating, and BSTI certification for breakers where it applies.

What to tell an electrical fittings supplier in Bangladesh

Drawings and quantities
Send the single line diagram, layout drawings or a bill of quantities with item, size and length, so every quote prices the same scope.
Tray type, size and load
Give tray type, width, side height and the cable weight per metre it must carry. Ask for the safe working load tested to IEC 61537 at your support span.
Material and coating for the site
Say where each run goes: dry indoor, basement, outdoor or near the coast. Monsoon humidity and salt air corrode fittings, so choose hot-dip galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium or glass-fibre reinforced plastic to suit.
BBT rating and route
State rated current, conductor material, number of conductors, enclosure rating and the riser route, with tap-off points and their ratings. Ask for IEC 61439-6 test evidence for the rating quoted.
Lightning risk and design
For tall buildings, factories, fuel stores and towers, ask for a risk assessment and design to the IEC 62305 series, stating the protection level, I to IV, and the method.
Earthing purpose
Say what each earth serves: power, lightning, a generator, data equipment or a substation, and ask for a measured earth resistance after installation against the designer's figure.
Surge protection
Voltage swings and lightning surges damage equipment. Ask for surge protective devices at the main board and sensitive sub-boards, coordinated with the earthing design.

Standards, tests and paperwork for electrical fittings

IEC 61537
Cable tray and ladder systems. Samples are loaded to the stated safe working load and then to 1.7 times it, within deflection limits. Ask which standard and span a rating was tested at; IEC 61537 and US NEMA VE 1 figures come from different tests.
IEC 61439-6
Busbar trunking systems up to 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC, as type-tested assemblies. Ask for the test certificate for the rating quoted, and which edition it covers.
IEC 62305 series
Protection against lightning in four parts: general principles, risk management, physical damage to structures, and electrical and electronic systems. Protection levels run from I, most severe, to IV.
BSTI certification
BSTI's mandatory list has included circuit breakers for household and similar installations since 2018, and a 2024 notice names circuit breakers again. A mark alone is weak evidence, so ask for a type test report as well.
Trade licence and Mushak 6.3
The seller's current trade licence in the name on the quote, and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3) under the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act 2012.

What moves the price of electrical fittings

  • Sheet thickness and coating: thicker steel and hot-dip galvanising cost more than thin pre-galvanised or painted trays, and last longer outdoors.
  • Material: stainless steel, aluminium and glass-fibre reinforced plastic cost more than galvanised steel.
  • BBT conductor and rating: copper costs more than aluminium, and price rises with current rating and tap-off count.
  • Test evidence: a type-tested range with reports costs more than an untested lookalike.
  • Accessory range: plate material, finish and mechanism quality move the price of switches and sockets.
  • Scope: bends, tees, supports, fixings and earth continuity links are often left off a price per metre.

Lead times and delivery

Common switches, sockets, conduits, earthing parts and standard tray sizes are often held in stock in Dhaka. Busbar trunking is usually built to the route and rating, and large tray orders, special coatings, stainless steel and lightning protection kits may be made or imported to order, with customs clearance adding time. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity for each order in the quote.

We deliver to sites across Bangladesh, from Dhaka and Gazipur to Chattogram and Khulna, packed by floor or area where you ask. The seller or your electrical contractor installs, as agreed in the quote, and for BBT and lightning protection the seller can supervise or install. You receive test reports matched to the models, earth resistance readings after installation, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence, and BSTI where requiredCurrent, in the name on the quote, with BSTI certification for items such as household circuit breakers where it applies.
  • Type test reports for the model quotedFrom the factory lab or an accredited third party, for the same tray, BBT rating or accessory range, not a similar product.
  • Warranty and after sales in writingSpare tap-off units, matching accessories from the same range and replacement terms included or priced.
  • A visit to the assembly lineBefore the order, we see tray forming, coating or BBT assembly and the test bay, and measure samples against the quote.

Questions buyers ask

Does my building need lightning protection?

It depends on a risk assessment. The IEC 62305 series weighs height, location, use, occupancy and contents to decide whether protection is needed and at which level. Tall buildings, fuel stores and plants on open ground are typical cases, so ask for an assessment rather than guessing.

Are early streamer emission lightning rods worth buying?

We do not recommend them. Their claimed extra coverage is disputed: NFPA withdrew a proposed standard for lack of evidence, and an international lightning conference opposed the technology. Ask for a conventional design to the IEC 62305 series, with air terminals, short down conductors and a low-impedance earth.

Should a high-rise riser use busbar trunking or cables?

For high currents up a building, busbar trunking usually takes less space, makes floor tap-offs simple and arrives as a type-tested assembly to IEC 61439-6. Cables can cost less on short or lower-current runs. Send the riser load schedule and we compare both.

How do we compare cable tray quotes?

Line them up on tray type, width, side height, sheet thickness, coating and length, and on the safe working load at your support span. Compare ratings only when tested to the same standard and span; IEC 61537 and US NEMA VE 1 figures come from different tests. Check that bends, tees, supports and fixings are priced too.

Is a BSTI mark enough proof of quality for switches and sockets?

No. Ask for a type test report for the exact range from the factory lab or an accredited laboratory as well. A 2025 news report described weak enforcement and fake BSTI logos on some products, so a mark alone is weak evidence. We check reports and samples before the order.

How soon will I hear back about electrical fittings and installation materials?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
