Buying earthing materials in Bangladesh

Earthing materials connect an electrical installation, a lightning system or a substation to the ground: earth rods and plates, strips and mesh, bonding conductors and bars, clamps and test joints, and enhancing compounds around electrodes in poor soil. Contractors, factories, telecom sites, substations and building developers in Bangladesh buy them against an earthing design.

Earthing parts are buried or hidden once fitted, so the wrong metal or a weak clamp is found only when a test fails. As an earthing material supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan works from your designer's drawings, sources matched parts through verified sellers, checks the test report for each, and delivers to site for your contractor or the seller to install.

Kinds of earthing material

Earth rods

Long rods driven into the ground, usually copper-clad steel, galvanised steel, stainless steel or solid copper. Choose the metal for the soil and for the parts it will be joined to.

Earth plates, strips and mesh

Buried plates, flat strips or a mesh grid used where rods alone are not enough or the design calls for a ring or grid, as in substations.

Bonding conductors and bars

Conductors and earth bars for main, supplementary and equipotential bonding, linking metal pipes, frames and the installation to the main earth terminal.

Clamps, connectors and test joints

Parts that join rods, strips and conductors, by clamping, bolting, crimping or exothermic welding. Test joints let an electrode be disconnected for measurement.

Earthing enhancing compound

A compound packed around an electrode to lower contact resistance in poor soil. It is a tested component with its own standard.

How to specify earthing materials

Purpose of each earth
State what each earth serves: the electrical installation, a lightning system, a generator, a substation or data equipment. The design sets layout, depth and material.
Earthing arrangement
Say whether the supply is TN-S, TN-C-S or TT. The arrangement decides how electrodes and protective devices are designed.
Electrode material and size
Give rod material, length and diameter, and strip material and cross-section, from the design for each location.
Matching metals
Avoid joining unlike metals in wet ground without the right clamp. Where copper meets galvanised steel or aluminium, the more active metal corrodes.
Joints and connections
Name the joint method for each connection: clamp, bolt or exothermic weld. Buried joints need a method suited to soil and moisture.
Soil and season
Monsoon rain and dry months change soil moisture. Ask the designer for the target and when to test, and order inspection pits where tests will be taken.

Standards, tests and paperwork

IEC 60364-5-54
Earthing arrangements and protective conductors of low-voltage installations. The design should name it, or the national rule it follows, for bonding and conductor sizes.
IEC 62561-2
Metallic conductors and earth electrodes. A third edition appeared in 2025, so ask for the current edition and which one the report covers.
IEC 62561-1
Connection components: clamps, connectors, bonding pieces and test joints. Ask for a report for the exact clamp supplied.
IEC 62561-7
Earthing enhancing compounds. A seller offering a compound should show a test report to this standard.

What moves the price of earthing materials

  • Electrode metal: copper-bearing parts usually cost more than galvanised steel but resist corrosion better.
  • Rod length and diameter, and strip cross-section.
  • Number of electrodes and the size of any ring or grid in the design.
  • Joint method: exothermic welding and clamps are priced differently.
  • Enhancing compound and inspection pits, where the design needs them.

Lead times and delivery

Rods, strips, clamps and compounds are usually catalogue lines, so time depends on stock of the sizes and metals specified and on port clearance at Chattogram for any imported line. Special rod lengths, large grids and exothermic welding kits can take longer. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver to site anywhere in Bangladesh, with parts counted against the earthing drawings. Your electrical contractor or the seller installs, as agreed in the quote. You receive test reports for rods, strips, clamps and any compound, the measured earth resistance after installation from the installer, and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Test reports per partWe match IEC 62561 reports to the rods, strips, clamps and compound quoted, and check which edition each covers.
  • Metal and coating markedWe check that metal and coating type are marked on rods and strips and agree with the quote, since the coating is hard to judge by eye.
  • Clamps match the metalsWe confirm each clamp suits the two metals it joins, so unlike metals are not left touching in damp ground.
  • Measured result after installationWe ask the installer for the measured earth resistance against the designer's target before handover.

Questions buyers ask

Copper-clad, galvanised or stainless steel rods: which should I buy?

It depends on the soil, the design and what the rod is joined to. Copper-bearing rods resist corrosion better and usually cost more; galvanised steel usually costs less. Avoid mixing metals at buried joints without the right clamp, since the more active metal corrodes. Your designer's specification decides.

Do I need earthing enhancing compound?

Only where the design calls for it, usually in poor soil where contact between electrode and ground is weak. Ask for a test report to IEC 62561-7 for the compound offered, and follow the quantity the designer gives per electrode.

What earth resistance should I ask for?

The target comes from your designer, set by the purpose of the earth and the earthing arrangement. We do not quote one figure for every site. Ask the installer to measure after installation, report against the target, and fit inspection pits so you can test again later.

Can the lightning earth and the electrical earth be shared?

They are usually designed together and bonded. The lightning design sets electrode layout for dispersing strike current, and the same earth is often tied to the installation earth. Send both designs so the materials list covers both.

How soon will I hear back about electrical fittings and installation materials?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
