Buying conduits and distribution boards in Bangladesh

Conduit is the tube that protects and routes wiring through slabs, walls and exposed runs; a distribution board divides the incoming feed into circuits, each with its own breaker or fuse, behind a dead front. Contractors and developers in Bangladesh order both together for flats, offices, hospitals and factories, sized from the single line diagram and the floor plans.

The risk sits in details a buyer cannot see on delivery: conduit wall thickness, breaker curve, breaking capacity and whether the board was verified as an assembly. As a conduit and distribution board supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan turns your drawings into one schedule, sources through verified sellers, checks the certificates and test records, and delivers to site.

Kinds of conduit and distribution board

PVC conduit

Light, resists moisture and many chemicals, and joins with solvent-welded fittings. It expands more with heat than metal, and needs a separate earth conductor. Thin-wall grades suit concrete; heavier grades suit exposed runs.

Steel and aluminium conduit

Galvanised steel conduit gives mechanical protection and shields sensitive circuits from interference. Aluminium resists water and cleaning chemicals but must not be cast directly into concrete.

Flexible conduit

Used for the last connection to motors and vibrating equipment. It does not replace rigid conduit in slabs and walls.

Distribution boards for ordinary users

Boards in flats, shops and offices that non-electricians may operate, with miniature breakers, RCDs or RCBOs. They fall under IEC 61439-3.

Industrial and commercial boards

Power distribution boards and panels in plant rooms, operated only by electricians, with larger incomers and moulded-case breakers. They fall under IEC 61439-2.

How to specify conduit and distribution boards

Conduit material, size and wall
State PVC, steel or aluminium, diameter, wall class and whether each run is in concrete, in walls or exposed, with bends, couplers and boxes.
Board ways and incomer
Give the number of ways, incomer rating, single or three phase at 50 Hz, and the single line diagram.
Breaker curve
State the trip curve per circuit: usually B trips at 3 to 5 times rated current, C at 5 to 10 times, D at 10 to 20 times. The designer picks the letter for the load.
Breaking capacity
State the short-circuit breaking capacity for the fault level at each board, within the scope of the breaker standard.
RCD and RCBO protection
Mark which circuits need residual-current protection, such as socket circuits, and whether by one RCD per group or an RCBO per circuit.
Enclosure and IP code
Choose sheet steel or plastic enclosures and state an IP code under IEC 60529 for plant rooms, basements and outdoor meter positions.
Surge protection
Voltage swings damage equipment; add surge protective devices in the main board where the designer specifies them.

Standards, tests and paperwork

IEC 61386 series
Conduit systems for cable management: Part 1 general requirements and tests, Part 21 rigid conduit. Ask for the report and the classes marked on the tube.
IEC 61439-3
Distribution boards for ordinary persons. A 2024 edition exists, so ask for the current edition and which one the board's verification covers.
IEC 60898-1
Miniature circuit breakers for household and similar use, up to 125 A. Larger moulded-case breakers follow IEC 60947-2.
BSTI mark for circuit breakers
Household circuit breakers are on BSTI's compulsory list. A mark alone is weak evidence, so ask for the breaker's test report as well.
IEC 60670-1
Boxes and enclosures for accessories and junctions. The current European edition is from 2021; ask why if a report cites an older one.

What moves the price of conduit and distribution boards

  • Conduit material, wall thickness and size, plus bends, couplers and boxes.
  • Board ways and incomer rating, single or three phase.
  • Breaker type and breaking capacity, and how many circuits carry RCD or RCBO protection.
  • Enclosure material and IP code.
  • A verified assembly with test records, against a board built without them.

Lead times and delivery

Standard PVC conduit sizes and small boards are usually catalogue items; boards built to a single line diagram, three-phase boards and imported breakers take longer, since imports wait for port clearance at Chattogram. A late change to the circuit list also delays a board. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver to site anywhere in Bangladesh, with boards labelled by floor or flat and conduit counted against the schedule. Your electrical contractor installs, or the seller where agreed in the quote. You receive the board schedule and routine test record, breaker certificates, conduit test reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Breaker certificatesWe check breaker test reports against the models quoted, and the BSTI mark on household circuit breakers.
  • Board against the drawingWe compare ways, incomer, breaker curves, ratings and RCD or RCBO positions with your single line diagram.
  • Assembly verification and routine testWe ask for the IEC 61439 verification for the board design and a routine test record for each board.
  • Conduit wall and markingOn samples we check conduit diameter, wall thickness and the classes marked on the tube against the quote.

Questions buyers ask

Which breaker curve should I use?

The designer decides from the load. Usually B curve breakers trip instantly at 3 to 5 times rated current, C at 5 to 10 times and D at 10 to 20 times, so higher letters ride through larger starting currents. Send the circuit list and we match each circuit to the curve specified.

Do socket circuits need an RCD?

An ordinary breaker or fuse acts only on overcurrent, so shock protection on socket circuits needs residual-current protection, by an RCD over a group or an RCBO per circuit. Your designer sets which circuits get it; we source boards built to that schedule.

PVC or steel conduit?

PVC is light, resists damp and suits concrete slabs, but needs a separate earth conductor and room for expansion. Steel gives more mechanical protection and shields sensitive circuits from interference. Choose run by run, and list each run's material in the schedule.

Is a BSTI mark on the board enough?

BSTI's compulsory list covers household circuit breakers, so check the mark on the breakers. For the board, ask for the IEC 61439 verification and a routine test record. A 2025 report found fake BSTI logos on some products, so test reports matter as well.

How soon will I hear back about electrical fittings and installation materials?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
