Buying computers and IT equipment in Bangladesh

Offices, banks, schools, hospitals, factories and project contractors buy computers, servers and networking gear in batches, from a few laptops to a full server room, often as wholesale orders of one configuration. Most units are imported and sold through distributors and resellers in Dhaka and Chattogram (Chittagong). Site conditions shape the order: load shedding that reached Dhaka in August 2026, summer heat, monsoon humidity and dust.

Choosing a computer and IT equipment supplier in Bangladesh means comparing quotes that differ in processor, memory, storage, licences and where the warranty is honoured. Roptan turns your needs into one specification, sources from verified sellers, checks configuration, serials, warranty and the BTRC papers for wireless items, and delivers. You deal with Roptan only, or post the requirement on our board.

Computers and IT equipment we source

Desktop and laptop computers

Office desktops, all-in-ones and business laptops for staff, labs and field teams. State processor class, memory, SSD size, screen, ports, operating system licence and quantity per configuration, and ask whether the warranty is the brand's local warranty, honoured in Bangladesh.

Servers and storage

Tower and rack servers, network attached storage, storage area networks and server SSDs. Specify workload, users, processors, memory, drive count, RAID level, redundant power supplies and rack space, and plan cooling and an online UPS with the server.

Networking equipment

Managed and unmanaged switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi access points, structured cabling and racks. Wi-Fi gear comes in through an importer on BTRC's radio equipment route, and routers sold in Bangladesh must support IPv6 and, as compliance firms report the rule, both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

Computer accessories and peripherals

Monitors, keyboards, mice, webcams, headsets, printers, scanners, projectors and UPS units, often bought with the computers. Match connectors and power ratings to the machines, and ask for an IEC 62368-1 safety report for power supplies, adaptors and monitors.

Memory cards and SSDs

Internal SSDs, memory cards and USB drives for computers, cameras and devices. Specify capacity, interface, sustained write speed and endurance, and avoid DRAM-less SSDs for heavy use. Fake-capacity cards are a known risk, so we write and read back samples from each lot.

Kiosks and digital signage

Floor-standing and wall-mounted kiosks with touch screens, receipt printers and card or QR readers, and signage screens with media players. Specify screen size and brightness, indoor or semi-outdoor enclosure, software, and who maintains content and hardware.

How to brief a computer and IT equipment supplier in Bangladesh

Configuration per line
List processor class, memory, storage type and size, screen, ports and operating system for each line. A quote that names only a processor family cannot be compared with another.
Quantity and roll-out
State units per configuration, delivery points and dates. Large batches of one fixed configuration are often ordered from abroad, so allow for that in the schedule.
Warranty and where it is honoured
Ask for the brand's local warranty, its length, and whether service is on-site or carry-in. Units built for another region and grey imports are usually outside the brand's warranty here.
Power and backup
Load shedding in 2026 has run 10 to 12 hours a day in some districts. Size UPS runtime to your outages, use online double conversion units for servers, and link long runtimes to a generator.
Heat, humidity and dust
Summer maxima typically reach 38 to 41 °C and monsoon humidity often runs above 90 percent. Keep server inlet air within about 18 to 27 °C, and plan filters and fan cleaning.
Network and Wi-Fi
Give floor plans, user counts and cable distances. Access points and routers should be dual band and IPv6 capable, and come from an importer enlisted with BTRC.
Software and licences
Say which operating system, office and security licences come pre-installed, and in whose name. Unlicensed software is a legal and security risk.

Approvals, safety reports and warranty papers

BTRC importer enlistment and NOC
Wi-Fi routers, access points and wireless modules are imported by a holder of BTRC's Radio Equipment Importer and Vendor Enlistment Certificate, with a No Objection Certificate obtained before the shipment arrives.
BTRC router requirements
Routers sold in Bangladesh, made locally or imported, must support IPv6, and as reported must cover both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. We check the model's specification sheet.
IEC 62368-1
Safety of audio, video and IT equipment, including power supplies, monitors and adaptors. Ask for the test report for the exact model and power rating quoted.
IEC 62040-3
Performance of UPS units. Ask for the topology, online double conversion or line interactive, and the runtime at your real load, not at half load.
BSTI where required
BSTI runs mandatory certification for a list of products. We check whether any item in the order is on the current list before quoting.

What moves the price of computers and IT equipment

  • Processor, memory and storage: each step up changes the price, and memory and flash prices move with the world market.
  • Warranty: multi-year, on-site cover costs more than carry-in, and grey-market units cost less but lose the local brand warranty.
  • Licences: pre-installed operating system, office and security software can be a large share of a desktop's price.
  • Servers: redundant power, RAID controllers, drive count and the support term add more than the base chassis.
  • Backup and cooling: UPS runtime, batteries and server room cooling belong in the total cost of ownership.

Lead times and delivery

Common laptop, desktop and accessory models are often held in stock in Dhaka, so small orders can move quickly. Large batches of one configuration, servers built to order, storage and network projects, and wireless gear waiting for the importer's BTRC NOC take longer, and customs clearance adds time. Roptan confirms delivery dates and any minimum for each order in the quote.

We deliver to offices, branches, factories and server rooms in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram and elsewhere in Bangladesh. Each unit is checked against the serial list and the quoted configuration before handover. For servers, networks and kiosks, the seller installs, configures and tests the equipment and hands over the configuration record. You receive the serial list, warranty cards, licence keys, test records and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence, and BSTI where requiredCurrent trade licence in the name on the quote, and BSTI certification for any item on its mandatory list.
  • Safety reports for the model quotedIEC 62368-1 reports for power supplies and monitors, and specification sheets showing IPv6 and dual band on routers.
  • Warranty and import papers in writingLocal brand warranty, spare parts and service terms, plus the importer's BTRC enlistment and NOC for wireless items.
  • Configuration and serial checkBefore dispatch we match model, processor, memory, storage and serials to the quote, and power test units from each lot.

Questions buyers ask

How do I know a laptop carries a valid local warranty?

Get the warranty terms in writing and check the serial with the brand's service centre in Bangladesh before payment. Units built for another region, grey imports and refurbished machines are usually outside the brand's local warranty, even when the seller offers its own cover. We check serials from each lot against the warranty quoted.

Which UPS should we buy for a server?

An online double conversion UPS. It feeds the server from its inverter all the time, so it also smooths voltage swings, while an offline unit only switches to battery when the mains fails. Size runtime to your real outages, which ran for hours a day in some districts in 2026, or link the UPS to a generator.

What should a quote for a batch of computers include?

One line per configuration with processor, memory, storage type and size, screen, ports and operating system, the quantity, and the unit price for that exact line. Then the warranty length and whether it is the brand's local warranty, on-site or carry-in, the licences included and in whose name, delivery points and dates, and what the seller installs. Quotes written this way can be compared line by line.

Do Wi-Fi routers need approval in Bangladesh?

Yes, through the importer. Radio equipment comes in through an importer holding BTRC's enlistment certificate, with a No Objection Certificate before each shipment arrives. Routers must also support IPv6 and, under the rule as reported, both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. We check the importer's papers and the model's specification sheet before quoting.

How should we cool a small server room?

Keep the air entering the servers within the ASHRAE recommended range of about 18 to 27 °C, using a dedicated air conditioner on backup power, not the office system that switches off at night. Seal the room against dust and log the temperature so faults show early.

How soon will I hear back about computers and IT equipment?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
