What to tell an industrial automation supplier in Bangladesh

Motor nameplate and load

Give kW, current, voltage and speed from the nameplate, and the load: a pump or fan, or a constant-torque load such as a conveyor or positive displacement pump, where speed control saves far less energy.

Supply

State three phase, 50 Hz, the voltage range measured at your board, and whether a generator feeds the plant, so drives, control power and stabilisers suit it.

Panel heat and humidity

Summer maxima usually reach 38 to 41 °C and July humidity 94 to 100 percent, and panels run hotter than room air. Drives lose rating above their stated ambient, so plan ventilation, filters or panel air-conditioning.

Harmonics and surges

A drive's input rectifier injects harmonic currents into the supply. On large drive loads, ask for line reactors or filters and surge protection, and say whether your utility or client sets a harmonic limit.

Program, licences and backup

Agree who writes the PLC and HMI programs, who owns the source files, and that a backup copy is handed over at commissioning.

Wireless modules

Gateways and HMIs with Wi-Fi, 4G or Bluetooth contain a radio, and the importer usually needs BTRC enlistment and a No Objection Certificate for each shipment. Wired versions avoid this.

Critical spares

Name the drives and controllers whose failure stops a line, and ask for spare units or boards.

Standards and paperwork for drives and controls

IEC 61800-5-1

Safety requirements, electrical, thermal, energy, fire and mechanical, for adjustable speed drive systems up to 1 kV AC. Ask for the certificate or test report for the drive frame and rating quoted.

IEC 61800-3

Electromagnetic compatibility of adjustable speed drive systems. Ask for the EMC test report and whether an input filter is included or needed near sensitive equipment.

IEC 61131-3

Programming languages for PLCs: ladder diagram, function block diagram, structured text and sequential function chart. Name a language your maintenance team can read and edit.

IEEE 519

A US standard for harmonic control that sets distortion limits at the point where a user's plant meets the supply. It is not a Bangladesh rule, but it can serve as a reference when sizing reactors and filters.

BTRC NOC and Mushak 6.3

For radio-equipped units, BTRC importer enlistment and a No Objection Certificate before each shipment, as importers describe the practice. For every order, a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What moves the price of drives and controls

• Rating and duty: kW, overload capacity and whether the drive is sized for constant or variable torque loads.
• Enclosure and cooling: ingress rating, a ventilated or air-conditioned panel, and a larger frame where heat forces derating.
• Harmonic and EMC parts: line reactors, input filters and output reactors add cost but protect the supply and motor.
• Control features: built-in PLC functions, safety inputs, communication cards and encoder feedback.
• Programming and commissioning: PLC and HMI programs, servo tuning and site testing are often priced separately.
• Spares and warranty: spare units or boards, replacement terms and repair support after handover.

Lead times and delivery

Common drive sizes, soft starters, small PLCs and stabilisers are often held in stock in Dhaka. Large drives, servo sets, specific PLC models and panels built to order may be imported or assembled to order, customs clearance adds time, and radio-equipped units can wait on BTRC papers.
