Buying woven labels in Bangladesh
A woven label carries its text and logo in the weave, made on a loom from coloured yarns. One garment often has several: main, size, care and fibre content labels, and a small flag label on a side seam, each with its own artwork. Garment exporters and local brands in Bangladesh buy them against each order.
Label rules differ by market: the US asks for origin, fibre and care, the EU for fibre content, and the text must agree with the fabric tests. A woven label supplier in Bangladesh should weave the buyer's approved artwork, not rewrite it. Roptan sources from verified makers, gets a woven sample approved before bulk and checks the text against your file.
What to tell a woven label supplier in Bangladesh
- Artwork
- Vector files, PDF or EPS with fonts converted to outlines, the finished size in mm, and the maker's minimum text height and border margin.
- Fold and cut
- End fold, centre fold (a loop label with two faces), straight cut and sewn on all sides, or laser cut to any shape.
- Weave density
- Standard, high-definition or ultra-high-definition, chosen for the smallest text and thinnest line on the artwork.
- Colours
- Each colour as a code from a printed colour reference chart, confirmed on the woven sample, since colours can still shift at that stage.
- Label set and text
- Main, size, care, fibre and flag labels listed separately with quantities per size, and the text taken from the buyer's current file.
Label rules and standards by market
- ISO 3758:2023
- The current care labelling code using symbols. The symbols are protected pictograms used under licence and must agree with the garment's fabric tests.
- FTC Care Labeling Rule, 16 CFR 423
- For the US, a care label that stays attached and legible for the product's useful life. Symbols may replace words if they are the ASTM D5489 symbols the rule names.
- 16 CFR 303
- US fibre and origin labelling: generic fibre names with percentages by weight in order of predominance, the maker's or marketer's name or RN number, and the country of processing or manufacture.
- Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011
- Full fibre composition on textile products sold in the EU. It does not cover size, origin or care labels and is under review, so check current rules per market.
Lead times and delivery
Label dates depend on the artwork, the weave and the approvals, so Roptan plans each order back from your in-house date. Bulk weaving usually waits for woven sample approval. Repeat labels are quicker; new artwork, a finer weave, colour changes after the sample and late care or fibre text add time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.
Labels reach your factory store packed by style, label type and size, with the trim card item code on each pack. Roptan sends the packing list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). For export orders, labels are commonly paid by back-to-back LC opened by the exporter's bank against the garment order.
Buying woven labels for export
Woven labels in the piece fall under HS heading 5807, textile labels and badges, not embroidered, at subheading 5807.10. Labels are light, so for buyers abroad Roptan quotes air from Dhaka with the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin. The text follows the destination market's rules, from the buyer's artwork.
Questions buyers ask
Should care labels be woven or printed?
Either works if it lasts. Woven care labels hold the text in the weave; printed satin labels usually cost less and fit long text, though the print can fade a little. A care label should resist its own care at least as well as the garment does, so wash a sample with the garment first.
Where does the country of origin label go?
For the US, on a garment with a neck, it goes inside the centre of the neck midway between the shoulder seams, or next to another label there. EU fibre rules do not cover origin, so follow the buyer's instructions for other markets.
Can a woven label show a photo or a gradient?
No. Labels are woven from single-colour yarns, so continuous-tone gradients and shadows cannot be reproduced. Fine lines and small text are sharpened with a high-definition or ultra-high-definition weave, or the artwork is simplified; for a photograph, consider a printed label.
What if the care label is hidden by packaging?
Then the care information is usually repeated on the outside of the pack or on a hang tag, while the label stays in the garment. The text on both must agree with the garment's fabric tests and with the symbols on the sewn label.
How soon will I hear back about garment accessories?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
