Buying barcode and ID card equipment in Bangladesh

Factories, export units, warehouses, retailers, pharmacies, hospitals, schools and offices print barcodes and ID cards every day: product and carton labels, shelf labels, asset tags, and staff and student cards. Buyers are in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Savar, Ashulia and Chattogram. Summer heat and monsoon humidity matter, because labels, ribbons and blank cards degrade when stored badly.

Choosing a barcode and ID card printer supplier in Bangladesh means matching printer, label material, ribbon and scanner, and quotes rarely state all four. Roptan turns your use into one specification, sources from verified sellers, test prints and scans samples on your material, and delivers with set-up and training through the seller. You deal with Roptan only, or post the requirement on our board.

Barcode and ID card equipment we source

Barcode printers

Desktop and industrial label printers using direct thermal, with no ribbon, or thermal transfer with a ribbon. Specify print width, resolution, labels per day, connection, and the software or label language your system sends. Thermal transfer suits labels that must last.

Barcode scanners

Handheld, presentation and fixed-mount scanners and mobile computers. Choose by the symbols they must read: linear codes such as EAN-13, Code 39 and Code 128, or 2D codes such as QR and Data Matrix, which need an imager. State range, connection and drop resistance.

Barcode labels and ribbons

Paper, polypropylene and polyester labels on rolls, with wax, wax-resin or resin ribbons. Wax suits paper labels but scuffs with handling; wax-resin and resin suit synthetic labels that need more durability. Specify label size, gap, core, roll diameter and adhesive.

ID card printers

Card printers that print one or both sides by dye sublimation direct to the card, or by reverse transfer onto a film then fused to the card, which prints more reliably on uneven chip cards. Options include lamination and magnetic or chip encoding.

PVC and smart cards

Blank PVC cards in the standard ID-1 size, pre-printed cards, magnetic stripe cards, and contact or contactless chip cards for access control and attendance. Chip cards must match your readers, so send a sample card or the reader details.

ID card ribbons and consumables

Colour YMCKO ribbons, monochrome ribbons, retransfer film, overlays, cleaning kits, card holders and lanyards. Ribbons are matched to the printer model, with prints per roll stated for each ribbon type. Store ribbons and cards cool, sealed and dry.

How to specify barcode and ID card equipment

What you are labelling
Product, carton, shelf, asset or document, the surface, and whether the label faces heat, abrasion, cold storage or outdoor use. This decides label material, ribbon and print method.
Numbering and symbology
Say which barcode type your customers or system require. Retail product codes use GS1 numbers such as EAN-13; internal stock often uses Code 128 or QR codes.
Volume and duty
Labels per day and per shift decide between desktop and industrial printers. An undersized printer wears its print head early and slows dispatch.
Label and core size
Label width, height, gap, core diameter and maximum roll diameter must fit the printer. Send a sample label or a drawing.
Scanning conditions
Distance, lighting, label condition, codes on screens or paper, and whether scanners must survive drops. Mobile computers need the software your stock system uses.
Card design and data
Single or double sided, photo, barcode or QR, magnetic stripe or chip, and the card software that pulls staff or student data. State the number of cards a year.
Card security
Overlays, holographic laminates and signature panels make cards harder to copy. Say which you need, since each adds ribbon or laminate cost.
Storage and climate
Summer maxima typically reach 38 to 41 °C and monsoon humidity often runs above 90 percent. Keep ribbons, labels and blank cards sealed in a cool, dry store.

Numbering, standards and import papers

GS1 numbers and the 894 prefix
Retail barcodes carry GTINs under a company prefix licensed from a GS1 member organisation, usually for an annual fee. Prefix 894 is allocated to Bangladesh; it shows the issuing organisation, not where goods are made.
EAN-13 and GTIN formats
An EAN-13 has a 3-digit GS1 prefix, a company part, an item part and a modulo 10 check digit. GTINs also come in 8, 12 and 14 digit forms.
ISO/IEC 15416 and ISO/IEC 15415
Print quality grading by a barcode verifier, for linear and 2D symbols respectively. When a retailer or buyer asks, request a verifier grade report on your labels.
ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1
The standard ID card size, also called CR-80: 85.60 by 53.98 mm and 0.76 mm thick, within 0.08 mm. Specify cards, printers and holders to it.
BTRC papers for radio items
Radio equipment is imported by a holder of BTRC's enlistment certificate with a No Objection Certificate per shipment. Contactless readers use radio, so we ask the importer which items need these papers.

What moves the price of barcode and ID card equipment

  • Printer class: desktop, mid-range or industrial, with print resolution and width.
  • Print method: thermal transfer needs ribbons, while direct thermal needs none but fades sooner.
  • Label material: synthetic labels and resin ribbons cost more than paper and wax, and last longer.
  • Card technology: blank PVC, magnetic stripe, contact chip and contactless cards differ widely in price.
  • Card printer options: double-sided printing, reverse transfer, lamination and encoders.
  • Running cost: ribbons, film and labels per print matter more over a year than the printer price.

Lead times and delivery

Common printers, scanners, standard label sizes and ribbons are often held in stock in Dhaka. Custom label sizes, printed labels, pre-printed or chip cards and industrial printers are usually made or imported to order, and radio items may wait for the importer's BTRC NOC. Sample approval for printed labels and cards adds a step. Roptan confirms delivery dates and any minimum, such as label rolls or card quantities, in the quote for each order.

We deliver to factories, warehouses, shops, hospitals, schools and offices across Bangladesh. The seller installs printers and scanners, loads drivers and label or card software, sets print darkness and speed for your material, and trains your staff. Before handover, sample labels are scanned and cards are printed and checked against the approved design. You receive the test prints, ribbon and label part numbers for reordering, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and registrationCurrent trade licence in the name on the quote, from a seller that can service the printer models quoted.
  • References from current clientsNamed users running the same printers or card systems, willing to take a call about print quality and service.
  • Terms of supply in writingScope, set-up, software, training, warranty, print head terms and consumable prices written into the quote.
  • A replacement policyWhat happens if a printer fails in a busy season: repair time, a loan printer, or a replacement unit.

Questions buyers ask

Direct thermal or thermal transfer: which do I need?

Direct thermal prints on heat-sensitive labels without a ribbon, so it is simple to run, but prints fade with heat and light. Use it for shipping and short-life labels. Thermal transfer uses a ribbon, lasts much longer and prints on paper and synthetic labels. Choose it for product, carton and asset labels.

How do we get EAN barcodes for products sold in shops?

Licence a GS1 company prefix from a GS1 member organisation, which usually charges an annual fee, then number each product under it. Printing numbers you have not licensed is not allowed. Bangladesh's prefix is 894, though a prefix only shows the issuing organisation, not where goods are made. Once you have the numbers, we print and check the labels.

Which ribbon should we use for synthetic labels?

Wax-resin or resin. Wax ribbons suit paper labels, but the print scuffs with handling. Wax-resin and resin ribbons give a tougher print on polypropylene and polyester labels that need more durability. Send us a label sample and we test print and rub test it before you order.

Can one card printer handle chip cards?

Yes, if it is the right type. Chips make the card surface uneven, and reverse transfer printers, which print on a film and fuse it to the card, handle this more reliably than direct-to-card printers. Add an encoder if the printer must also write the chip, and match the cards to your readers.

Why do our barcodes scan badly?

Common causes are a worn print head, wrong darkness or speed, the wrong ribbon for the label, labels stored in heat and humidity, or a scanner that cannot read the symbol type. A verifier grades print quality under ISO/IEC 15416 for linear codes and ISO/IEC 15415 for 2D codes, and shows which fault to fix.

How soon will I hear back about barcode and ID card equipment?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the headcount and duration, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
