Poly bags and cartons carry a garment from factory to shop: a polyethylene or polypropylene bag around each piece or pack, and a corrugated carton around the bags. Garment exporters in Bangladesh buy both for every export order, to the brand's packing instructions; local brands and other makers buy cartons for their own goods.

Cartons are among the last items packed, so they are bought in step with shipment dates, and corrugated board weakens when it takes up moisture. Kinds of poly bag and carton

Flat poly bags

The usual garment bag: LDPE or LLDPE film sealed at the bottom and open at the top, closed by flap, heat seal or tie, sometimes with air holes. Choose it for folded garments.

Hanger bags

Dry-cleaner style bags, closed at one end and open at the other with a hanger hole, with or without gussets. Choose them for garments shipped on hangers.

BOPP bags

Biaxially oriented polypropylene: film stretched in both directions, clear and glossy, and it takes print well. Choose them when the bag must show the garment and carry print.

Single-wall cartons

Three-ply board, one fluting between two liners. C flute is the usual flute in corrugated boxes. Choose it for light and medium loads.

Double- and triple-wall cartons

Five-ply board has two flutings and three liners, seven-ply three flutings and four liners. Choose them when heavier cartons or higher stacks need more strength.

What to tell a poly bag and carton supplier in Bangladesh

Bag size, film and flap: Length and width, resin (LDPE, LLDPE or PP), thickness in mil or micrometres, a single-layer flap on the double-layer body, the closure and any air holes.
Print and warning: Logo, text and any suffocation warning, with wording, language and position taken from the buyer's artwork.
Carton size and board: Inside length, width and height, ply, flute, liner grades and paper weights in gsm, with print and shipping marks.

Carton tests and packaging rules

ISO 3037:2022 and TAPPI T 811: Edge crush of corrugated board on a short column, reported in kN/m or lb/inch; it predicts box compression. ISO 13821:2020 covers waxed edges.
ASTM D642: Compressive resistance of whole shipping containers, reported in kgf or N. Ask which test the protocol names and at what humidity it ran.
Environment Conservation Act 1995, section 6A: It lets the government ban or regulate polythene and polypropylene items by gazette notification; its proviso exempts items exported or used in export. Before ordering bags for goods sold inside Bangladesh, confirm the current notification.
Regulation (EU) 2025/40: The EU packaging and packaging waste regulation, applying since 12 August 2026. Ask EU buyers for their packaging instructions under it before bags and cartons are made.

Questions buyers ask

Which carton ply do I need for garments?

Single wall, 3 ply, suits light and medium loads; heavier cartons need a higher edge crush or burst rating, or double wall, 5 ply, or triple wall, 7 ply. Send the carton weight, stacking height and route, and ask for strength after humid conditioning.

How thick should a garment poly bag be?

Flat garment bags are usually about 1.0 to 1.5 mil, roughly 25 to 38 micrometres; a mil is a thousandth of an inch. Film is priced by weight, so state the thickness your buyer's packing manual asks for and approve a sample bag on the folded garment.

Do poly bags need a suffocation warning?

Often. Thin, clingy plastic bags can suffocate small children, and in the US this led to voluntary warning labels on some bags. The buyer or retailer sets the wording, language and position. Send the artwork and we check the printed warning on the approved sample and on bulk.

Why does carton strength fall in humid weather?

Corrugated board takes up moisture from the air. It usually holds about 6.5 to 9.5% moisture; above that its compression strength falls, and below it the board cracks. Store cartons dry, have them delivered close to packing, and ask for strength results after humid conditioning.

How soon will I hear back about garment accessories?
