Buying water treatment plants and purifiers in Bangladesh

Groundwater in Bangladesh often carries iron, manganese or arsenic, and coastal water near Khulna and Chattogram (Chittagong) can be saline. MICS 2019 found 12 percent of people exposed to arsenic above the national standard. Factories in Gazipur and Narayanganj treat water for boilers and dyeing, hotels and hospitals for guests and patients, developers for apartment blocks in Dhaka, and homes and offices for drinking.

A water treatment plant supplier in Bangladesh may quote a plant size before anyone has tested the water. The raw water analysis sets the design, so start there. Tell us the source, the test results, the flow and the use. We source from verified sellers, check the design basis against your water, arrange installation through the seller and deliver. You deal with Roptan only.

Water treatment plants and purifiers we source

RO plants

Reverse osmosis pushes water through membranes to remove dissolved salts, for brackish and coastal water, process and drinking water. Recovery for brackish systems is typically 75 to 85 percent; the rest is reject water that must go somewhere.

Iron and arsenic removal plants

Plants for tubewell water high in iron, manganese or arsenic, usually aeration or oxidation followed by sand or media filtration. Removal depends on the raw water chemistry, so the plant is sized to a recent test of your own water.

Water softeners and DM plants

A softener removes hardness. A DM plant uses ion exchange to remove cations and anions, typically giving near-zero hardness and very low conductivity, for boiler feed and process use. Regeneration loads follow the raw water analysis.

Drinking water plants

Plants that treat water to drinking standard for a building or campus, or for a bottling and jar filling line. Packaged water sold to the public needs a BSTI certification mark licence for the product, held by the bottler.

Water purifiers and filters

Point-of-use purifiers and water filters for homes, offices and canteens: sediment and carbon filters and small RO units. NSF/ANSI 58 certifies point-of-use RO for water that is already microbiologically safe, not raw tubewell water.

Swimming pool filtration systems

Pool pumps, filters, dosing and controls for hotels, clubs and residential towers. A complete quote states the pool volume, the turnover period in hours, the filter type and media, the disinfectant and the pH control.

What to tell a water treatment plant supplier in Bangladesh

Raw water analysis
A recent lab test of the source: iron, manganese, arsenic, TDS or salinity, hardness and bacteria. Without it, no seller can size the plant to your water.
Source and season
Deep or shallow tubewell, river, pond, city supply or coastal water. Say if quality changes between the dry season and the monsoon.
Use and the limit to meet
Drinking, boiler feed, process, dyeing or a pool, and the limit: the Bangladesh arsenic standard is 0.05 mg/L and the WHO guideline 0.01 mg/L, so name which.
Flow and hours
Daily demand in m³ per day, peak flow per hour and running hours. Plants are sized to the peak, and storage tanks cover the gap.
Reject and backwash water
RO reject, filter backwash and DM regeneration water have to go somewhere. Say where, because a factory's discharge falls under the Environment Conservation Rules 2023.
Power, space and service
Three phase or single phase supply at 50 Hz, the plant room size, who runs the plant and whether you want named service visits.

Water standards, permits and certification

Bangladesh drinking water limits
The national standard sets arsenic at 0.05 mg/L and manganese at 0.1 mg/L; the WHO guideline for arsenic is 0.01 mg/L. The design basis should name every limit the plant must meet.
Water Act 2013 and groundwater abstraction
The Executive Committee of the National Water Resources Council can fix the lowest safe yield of an aquifer and restrict abstraction in declared water-stress areas. Any tubewell permission is the site owner's, not the seller's.
BSTI licence for packaged water
Bottled and jar drinking water is sold under a BSTI certification mark licence. It applies to the packaged product, not to the plant, and the bottler holds it.
ECR 2023 and the Department of Environment
RO reject, backwash and DM regeneration wastewater usually form part of a factory's discharge under the Environment Conservation Rules 2023, overseen by the Department of Environment.
NSF/ANSI 58, 42 and 53 for purifiers
NSF/ANSI 58 covers point-of-use RO. NSF/ANSI 42 is usually cited for taste, odour and chlorine claims and NSF/ANSI 53 for health claims. Ask which claim is certified.
WHO guidelines for swimming pools
WHO's Guidelines for safe recreational water environments, Volume 2, covers microbial and chemical hazards in pools. We found no Bangladesh pool standard, so name the code your project follows.

What moves the price of a water treatment plant

  • Raw water: high iron, arsenic or salinity needs more pretreatment stages and media.
  • Capacity and hours: the plant is sized to the peak flow, not the daily average.
  • Materials: vessels and pipes in FRP, stainless steel or coated steel differ in price and life.
  • Membranes and media: the grade and origin of membranes, resins and filter media.
  • Automation: manual valves cost less than automatic backwash, dosing and online monitoring.
  • After-sales: included service visits, spares and an operation contract add to price and cut downtime.

Lead times and delivery

Purifiers and small filters are often held in stock. Plants are usually built to order once the raw water test and the design are agreed, and imported membranes, vessels or controls add shipping and clearance at Chattogram. Site work and commissioning follow. We do not quote a standard lead time or minimum: Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver across Bangladesh, from Dhaka and Gazipur to coastal sites near Khulna. The seller installs and commissions the plant where agreed, runs it on your water and hands over a lab test of the treated water, operation manuals and a spares list. You receive the warranty and service terms in writing, the delivery note and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence and installation recordA current trade licence and a list of plants the seller has running on similar water, with the client named so the record can be checked.
  • Design basis and discharge standardThe raw water analysis, the treated water limits and where reject or backwash water goes, all in writing before the order.
  • Warranty and after sales in writingService visits, membranes, media and filter spares, and the response time, either included or priced in the quote.
  • A visit to a working installationBefore the order, a visit to a plant of similar size and raw water, to see it running and speak to the owner.

Questions buyers ask

Do I need RO for iron in tubewell water?

Usually not. Iron and manganese are commonly removed by aeration or oxidation followed by filtration, which can also take out some arsenic when iron is plentiful. RO suits salty or high-TDS water. Send your raw water test before asking for a quote.

Will a household purifier make tubewell water safe?

Not always. NSF/ANSI 58 certifies point-of-use RO units for water already microbiologically safe and of known quality. Test raw tubewell or coastal water first, and check which claims the unit is certified for. MICS 2019 also links much home contamination to unclean taps and cups.

Which arsenic limit should my plant meet?

Name it in the design basis. The Bangladesh standard is 0.05 mg/L and the WHO guideline is 0.01 mg/L, five times lower, so a plant built to the national limit may still fail the WHO level. Say which you want before design, and ask for a treated water test at handover.

Do I need a permit to draw groundwater for a factory?

Check before you size the plant. The Water Act 2013 lets the Executive Committee of the National Water Resources Council fix the lowest safe yield of an aquifer and restrict abstraction in declared water-stress areas, and the local water authority may have its own rules for a deep tubewell. Any permission belongs to the site owner, not to the plant seller or to Roptan.

What should a swimming pool filtration quote include?

More than a pump size: the pool volume, the turnover period in hours, the filter type and media, the disinfectant and the pH control, with pipework and controls. WHO's guidelines for swimming pools set out the hazards to control. We compare pool equipment quotes on those points.

How soon will I hear back about water treatment plants and purifiers?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
