Buying water softeners and DM plants in Bangladesh

A water softener swaps the calcium and magnesium in hard water for sodium on an ion exchange resin. A DM plant goes further, using cation and anion resins together to strip most dissolved salts. Factories buy them for boiler feed and process water, and hotels, hospitals and laundries for hot water systems, where hard water leaves scale that cuts heat transfer and lets boiler tubes overheat.

As your water softener and DM plant supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan matches the plant to your water and to the feed limits your boiler or process sets. We source from verified sellers, check resin, regeneration and waste handling in the design, arrange installation through the seller and deliver.

Kinds of softener and DM plant

Ion exchange softeners

A regenerable cation exchange unit that takes out hardness and is regenerated with brine when the resin is exhausted. Choose it when hardness is the problem and some added sodium does no harm.

Co-current DM plants

Regenerant and water both flow down through cation and anion beds. Simpler to build, but it uses more acid and caustic than a counter-current plant, so running cost is higher.

Counter-current DM plants

Regenerant flows against the service flow, which cuts chemical use and operating cost but needs engineered internals. Choose it for a plant that runs long hours.

Mixed bed polishers

A 40/60 mix of cation and anion resin in one vessel, mostly used for final polishing of water that has already been through a two-bed DM plant or an RO stage.

Hot water softening only

Softening only the water sent to hot water systems is often recommended to prevent or delay scale in heaters. It suits hotels and hospitals and keeps the plant smaller.

What to tell a water softener and DM plant supplier in Bangladesh

Hardness in mg/L as CaCO3
Sellers quote German, French or Clark degrees or grains per gallon. A French degree is 10 mg/L and a Clark degree about 14.25 mg/L, so fix one unit.
Iron, turbidity and salinity
Suspended solids and iron foul resin, so a pre-filter may be needed. A softener does not remove salt, which matters on saline coastal feed.
Use and the outlet target
Boiler feed, process or hot water, and the limits the boiler maker or process states for hardness, conductivity, alkalinity and pH.
Flow and regeneration
Peak flow per hour, running hours and the time you can allow between regenerations, so the seller can size the resin bed.
Regenerant chemicals
A DM plant needs acid and caustic, with anion resin typically regenerated with 1 to 4 percent sodium hydroxide. Storage, dosing and neutralisation belong in the scope.
Waste water route
Backwash, brine and rinse water go to drain rich in calcium and magnesium salts. Say where; a factory discharge falls under ECR 2023.

Standards, tests and papers for softeners and DM plants

NSF/ANSI 44
Covers residential cation exchange softeners only, with fittings not above 1.25 inch nominal pipe size. A commercial or industrial softener is outside it, whatever its label says.
Capacity at a stated salt dose
NSF/ANSI 44 tests capacity at the lowest and highest salt settings, so ask for rated capacity at the salt dose the plant will run on.
The boiler maker's feed water limits
The boiler maker's stated limits, not a generic figure, should set the plant design and the outlet test.
Safety data sheets
For the acid, caustic and salt used in regeneration, ask for safety data sheets to GHS and keep them in the plant room.

What moves the price of a softener or DM plant

  • Hardness and flow: harder water and higher flow need a larger resin bed or more frequent regeneration.
  • Softener or DM: a DM plant adds anion resin, acid and caustic handling and neutralisation.
  • Layout: counter-current internals cost more to build and less to run than co-current beds.
  • Pretreatment: filters for the iron and suspended solids that would foul the resin.
  • Running cost: salt, acid and caustic for each regeneration, and resin replaced over time.

Lead times and delivery

There is no standard lead time. A small softener for a hot water system is simpler than a DM train with acid and caustic stations and a neutralisation pit. Imported resin, vessels or valves, a mixed bed stage or automatic regeneration make it longer. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver to factories, hotels, hospitals and laundries across Bangladesh. The seller installs and commissions the plant where agreed and hands over an outlet test for hardness, plus conductivity for a DM plant, the manuals and a spares list. You receive the warranty in writing, the delivery note and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • One hardness unitWe check the raw water and outlet figures in the quote are in mg/L as CaCO3, so two offers compare.
  • Capacity with its salt doseWe check the rated capacity per regeneration is stated at a named salt or chemical dose.
  • Feed limits namedFor boiler feed, we check the design states the boiler maker's limits and meets them, not a generic figure.
  • Chemicals and wasteWe check acid and caustic storage, neutralisation and the drain route for regeneration water are in the scope.

Questions buyers ask

Will a softener remove salt from coastal water?

No. A softener swaps hardness for sodium and leaves the salt in. Seawater counts as very hard, and groundwater salinity rises towards the south, so a coastal factory with saline feed may need RO ahead of any softening or DM step.

Is a softener enough for my boiler?

Not always. Boiler water treatment also controls alkalinity, pH and conductivity, and too many dissolved solids give too much conductivity in the feed. Ask your boiler maker for the feed limits; a DM plant or RO may be needed to meet them.

Does DM water need disinfecting?

For drinking or a clean process, yes. Deionisation does not significantly remove bacteria, viruses or uncharged organic molecules, except by chance trapping in the resin, so add a filtration or disinfection step after the DM plant.

What about salt-free conditioners?

Treat their claims with care. They leave the minerals in the water and alter them so they do not form scale, and the United States has no standard for measuring scale-forming ability.

How soon will I hear back about water treatment plants and purifiers?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
