Buying RO plants in Bangladesh

Reverse osmosis pushes water through a membrane that holds back dissolved salts. In Bangladesh it is chosen when salt, not iron, is the problem: coastal towns whose fresh water turns saline in the dry season, factories that need low-conductivity boiler feed and process water, and buildings on brackish tubewells. Salinity can vary a lot within a small area.

An RO plant works only as well as its design matches its feed. As your RO plant supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan asks for a test taken at your intake, sources a plant rated for that salinity from verified sellers, checks the pretreatment and reject route in the design, arranges installation through the seller and delivers.

Kinds of RO plant

Brackish water RO plants

For water with less salt than seawater, such as saline tubewells and estuary water, the kind most sites here usually need. It runs at roughly 2 to 17 bar and draws less power than seawater RO.

Seawater RO plants

A separate high-pressure design, at roughly 40 to 82 bar, that recovers up to about half the feed as fresh water. Choose it only when a test shows salt near seawater level.

Industrial RO for boiler feed and process water

Demineralises boiler feedwater and makes low-conductivity process water, sometimes followed by an ion exchange or electrodeionisation polisher where the process needs purer water. Choose it when a process needs water low in all dissolved salts.

Drinking water RO plants

Community, campus and building plants that turn brackish water into drinking water, promoted on the coast by government and NGOs since the early 2010s.

What to tell an RO plant supplier in Bangladesh

Salinity at your intake
A lab result for TDS or conductivity from your own tubewell or river intake, not a neighbour's, taken in the dry season on the coast.
Scaling minerals
Hardness, iron, silica and barium results. These minerals scale the membranes and set the highest recovery the plant can run at, usually with antiscalant dosing.
Chlorine in the feed
Say whether the feed is chlorinated or disinfected. Thin-film composite membranes are damaged by oxidants, so carbon or a bisulfite dose has to remove chlorine first.
Treated water flow and use
Permeate in m³ per hour, running hours and the use: drinking, boiler feed or process.
Recovery and concentrate
The recovery you expect and where the reject goes. Brackish plants are often quoted at 75 to 85 percent recovery or more, and the balance must be drained or reused.
Cartridges and power
Ask for the cartridge filters before the high-pressure pump, typically 1 to 5 micrometres, with change intervals. State three phase supply at 50 Hz and any generator backup.

Standards and papers for an RO plant

NSF/ANSI 58
Covers point-of-use RO units for water already microbiologically safe and of known quality, not large RO systems, so a household certificate says nothing about a plant.
NSF/ANSI 61
The drinking water component standard that larger RO systems fall under for their materials. For a drinking water plant, ask which wetted parts are certified to it.
ECR 2023 and the Department of Environment
In a factory, RO concentrate usually joins the discharge regulated under the Environment Conservation Rules 2023. Agree the reject route in writing before ordering.
Normalised performance log
Trade guidance logs normalised permeate flow, differential pressure and salt passage, and usually triggers maintenance at a 10 to 15 percent deviation. Ask for the log format at handover.

What moves the price of an RO plant

  • Feed salinity: saltier water needs higher pressure, a larger pump and more energy for each cubic metre.
  • Recovery target: high recovery needs antiscalant dosing and design around the least soluble salt in your water.
  • Pretreatment: iron, scaling minerals or chlorine in the feed add filters, carbon or dosing ahead of the membranes.
  • Post-treatment: stabilising permeate for drinking or storage adds a dosing step with lime or caustic soda.

Lead times and delivery

There is no standard lead time for an RO plant. It is usually built to order once the feed test and the design are agreed. A larger flow, a seawater design or imported membranes, vessels and pumps make it longer. Site work, the power connection and the reject line come before commissioning. Roptan confirms the dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver to factories, buildings and coastal sites anywhere in Bangladesh. The seller installs and commissions the plant where agreed. At commissioning the seller shows zero free chlorine at the membrane inlet and hands over a lab test of the permeate, the manuals and a spares list. You receive the warranty in writing, the delivery note and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Test from your own intakeWe check the design rests on a recent test of your own tubewell or intake, not a nearby one.
  • Pressure ratingWe check the pump, membrane housings and pipework are rated for the stated feed, brackish or seawater.
  • Membrane protectionWe check carbon or bisulfite dosing removes chlorine before the membranes, and that commissioning will show zero free chlorine.
  • Reject route and logWe check the concentrate route is agreed in writing and that the seller will hand over a normalised performance log.

Questions buyers ask

Do I need a seawater RO plant for a coastal site?

Usually not. Saline tubewells and estuary water are usually brackish, with less salt than seawater, and a brackish plant runs at roughly 2 to 17 bar against 40 to 82 bar for seawater. Test in the dry season, when coastal water is saltiest.

Will an RO plant remove arsenic?

It may reduce arsenic, fluoride, nitrate and other dissolved substances, but do not accept a plant on that claim alone. Put the arsenic limit you must meet in the design basis and ask for a lab test of the treated water after commissioning.

What happens to the reject water?

It leaves the plant as concentrate carrying the salts the membranes held back. Even at 75 to 85 percent recovery, a brackish plant sends the rest of its feed to reject, so plan a drain, reuse or treatment route before ordering.

Why is RO water treated again after the membranes?

Because permeate is low in minerals and can corrode pipes and tanks. Larger plants usually stabilise it with lime or caustic soda, and a drinking water plant may remineralise it. Ask the seller to state the post-treatment.

How soon will I hear back about water treatment plants and purifiers?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
