Buying water purifiers and filters in Bangladesh
A water purifier or filter treats water at the point of use, under a sink, on a counter or in a canteen. Filters work by sieving, adsorption, ion exchange and other processes, and each kind removes different things. In Bangladesh buyers range from homes and offices on city supply to factories and schools on tubewells, where arsenic is naturally high in some areas.
As your water purifier and filter supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan matches the unit to what your water contains. We source from verified sellers, check the certification claims and spares supply, and deliver to offices, canteens and homes. For a large building, we compare a purifier against a plant.
What to tell a water purifier and filter supplier in Bangladesh
- What the unit must remove
- Start from a lab result for iron, arsenic, salinity and bacteria. Boiling or a household filter does not deal with every contaminant in water of unknown source.
- The stages in an RO unit
- List the pre-filters, carbon stages, membrane and post-filters, since each affects what the unit reduces.
- UV pre-filter and lamp
- UV needs clear water, so ask what the pre-filter is. The dose should be set at end of lamp life, when output falls to 80 percent, so get the lamp interval.
- Carbon form and grade
- Granular, powdered or block carbon; some grades are rated by dechlorination half-life. Ask for the grade and the change interval.
- Spares and service
- The change or cleaning interval of each stage, and whether spare cartridges and lamps are stocked in Dhaka or Chattogram.
Certifications for water purifiers and filters
- NSF/ANSI 42
- Covers aesthetic effects such as chlorine taste and odour. A unit certified only to 42, as many jug and fridge filters are, makes no health claim.
- NSF/ANSI 53
- Covers reduction of contaminants with health effects, including some heavy metals such as lead and arsenic, and cysts. The performance data sheet shows what each unit reduces.
- NSF/ANSI 58
- Covers point-of-use RO for water already microbiologically safe and of known quality, with an optional pentavalent arsenic claim. It is not approval for raw tubewell water.
- NSF/ANSI 55
- Covers UV treatment systems that inactivate bacteria, viruses and cysts. Ask for the certified flow rate and the lamp change interval, since the dose is set at end of lamp life.
- Listing number
- NSF's list of certified drinking water treatment units is searchable, so ask for the listing number, not only a mark on the box.
Lead times and delivery
There is no standard lead time, and stock varies by model. A large order, a particular certified model or units shipped from abroad take longer, and installation is booked after delivery. Roptan confirms dates, stock and any minimum quantity in the quote.
We deliver to homes, offices, canteens and factories across Bangladesh. The seller installs the units where agreed and shows staff how to change each stage. You receive the manual covering installation, operation and maintenance, the certification listing and data sheet where the unit is certified, the warranty in writing, the delivery note and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
Can a home RO unit treat raw deep tubewell water?
Do not assume so. NSF/ANSI 58 covers point-of-use RO for water already microbiologically safe and of known quality, and WHO names Bangladesh among the countries with naturally high arsenic in groundwater. Test the well first, then choose a unit, or a plant, for what the result shows.
Does an NSF 42 certificate mean the water is healthy?
No. NSF/ANSI 42 covers taste, odour and chlorine. Health claims, such as reducing lead, arsenic or cysts, come under NSF/ANSI 53, and even then each certified filter reduces its own list. Read the performance data sheet for the claims you need.
Is a UV purifier enough for iron or arsenic?
No. UV inactivates bacteria, viruses and cysts but does not remove dissolved metals or salts. For iron, arsenic or salinity the unit needs a filter, adsorption or RO stage that is tested for that job, with UV after it if bacteria are also a risk.
How often do cartridges need changing?
It depends on the stage and your water, so ask the seller to state an interval for each. UV lamps lose output with use, and the dose should hold at end of lamp life. Ceramic filters are abraded when they clog. Keep spares close, or the unit stops doing its job.
How soon will I hear back about water treatment plants and purifiers?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
