Sesame oil cake, also sold as til oil cake or sesame meal (tiler khoil in Bangladesh's feed rules), is the seed left after its oil is pressed out. Unlike most oil meals it is usually pressed only, so it keeps some oil. Low in lysine and rich in methionine, it is fed to cattle and poultry beside soybean meal, not in its place.

Kinds of sesame oil cake

Expeller cake from whole seed

Pressed from seed with the hulls on: the usual feed product, mainly for ruminants and poultry. Oil depends on the press, usually 5% to 20%. Choose it for cattle and poultry rations.

Cake from dehulled seed

Pressed from seed without hulls: fewer oxalates, and it should be worth more as feed, but it is normally sold as food. Choose it when hull content must be low.

Solvent-extracted sesame meal

Cake extracted again with solvent: a low-oil, feed-grade meal of about 48% protein, and less common. Choose it when you want less oil, and less to turn rancid, in stored feed.

Fish Feed Rules 2024: Sesame cake is not among the oilseed ingredients listed for fish and shrimp feed, so a fish feed mill has no listed inclusion limit for it.

Why might a ration with sesame cake need extra calcium?
