Buying salwar kameez sets in Bangladesh

A salwar kameez set is a long tunic (the kameez), trousers wide at the top and narrow at the ankle (the salwar) and a long scarf, the dupatta. Some kameez leave the side seams open below the waist, a slit called the chaak. Ready-made sets are wholesaled at Keraniganj and Narayanganj's Deobhog markets; Islampur sells unstitched suit material.

Two faults are hard to fix once cloth is cut: a Patiala bottom short of fabric, and a kameez that shrinks more than its salwar. A salwar kameez set supplier in Bangladesh should prevent both. Roptan sources from verified sellers, writes the cut, cloth per piece and size chart into the order, and checks a washed sample and the bulk.

Cuts of salwar kameez set

Straight-cut sets

The kameez is cut straight and flat with side slits; the salwar fits close to the legs and gathers at the ankle. Choose it for everyday and office lines and long printed runs.

Patiala sets

The Patiala salwar has many deep folds, so it takes far more cloth than a plain salwar. Choose it for festival lines, and cost it per set: the bottom alone can need more fabric than the kameez.

Anarkali sets

A long, frock-style kameez over a slim fitted bottom, made floor-length, layered, caped, with a jacket or as a gown. Choose it for Eid, Puja and wedding guests.

Churidar and palazzo sets

Churidar trousers are a tight-fitting variant of the salwar; palazzo bottoms are wide-legged. Choose churidar for a slim, formal set with an exact size chart, palazzo for a relaxed one.

How to brief a salwar kameez set supplier in Bangladesh

Cut of top and bottom
Name the kameez cut and the bottom (salwar, churidar, Patiala or palazzo); the pair sets how much cloth the seller books.
Cloth per piece
Give the cloth width and each piece's length in metres, dupatta included, and have the seller confirm them against its pattern.
Length and fit
Kameez to knee or mid-calf, a front placket usually 6 to 8 inches deep, and a tight, semi, medium or loose fit. Ready-made sizes usually run XS to XXXL.
Fabric by season
Usually cotton, cambric, voile, poplin or linen for summer; georgette, crepe or poly-viscose for cooler months; silk, velvet, brocade or chiffon for weddings.
Embroidery and waist
Mark the work on neckline, sleeves, hem or slits and name the method: mirror work, aari or zardozi. State a drawstring or elastic salwar waist.

Tests for salwar kameez cloth and seams

ISO 5077 with ISO 6330
Shrinkage after washing and drying, using the ISO 6330 home-laundry procedures. Test kameez and salwar cloth separately on one named cycle, so both meet the same limit.
ISO 105-E04 and ISO 105-B02
Fastness to perspiration and xenon-arc light, staining graded on the ISO 105-A03 grey scale. Ask for both on dark and printed cloth worn in summer heat.
ISO 13936-2
Yarn slippage at a seam in woven fabric under a fixed load. Ask for it on smooth georgette, silk and fine cotton, where seams can pull open.
16 CFR Parts 303 and 1610
For the US: fibre content in English generic names, and a burn test that exempts plain fabric of 2.6 ounces per square yard (about 88 g/m2) or more.

What moves the price of a salwar kameez set

  • Cut: Patiala and Anarkali sets use far more cloth than a straight set.
  • Dupatta: a chiffon or georgette dupatta adds a second fabric to buy, dye and finish.
  • Embroidery: hand work such as aari or zardozi costs more than machine embroidery, since each piece takes longer.
  • Sizes and tests: more sizes mean more grading, and each cloth needs its own reports.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on the cut, the work and the cloth. Hand embroidery and Anarkali or Patiala cuts take longer than straight printed sets, and imported cloth can wait when banks cannot open letters of credit on time, as a 2026 trade report noted. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver complete sets, each dupatta packed with its kameez and salwar, to shops, warehouses and online sellers anywhere in Bangladesh, with a packing list by cut, size and colour, the inspection report, any lab reports and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying salwar kameez sets for export

For shops abroad, we quote FOB Chattogram or air freight from Dhaka. The UK's DCTS gives Bangladesh 0% tariffs on 99.8% of products and the EU's Everything But Arms is duty-free; with LDC graduation scheduled for 24 November 2026, we check both on the quote date. Your broker confirms the customs line, which depends on build and fibre.

What we check for this order

  • Cloth per cutWe check cut lengths against the ordered cut, so a Patiala or Anarkali is not made short of fabric.
  • Washed fit sampleWe have the fit sample washed and measured before bulk, since kameez and salwar cloth can shrink by different amounts.
  • Shade across piecesWe compare kameez, salwar and dupatta side by side for shade variation between pieces meant to match.
  • Final inspectionWe inspect packed sets to AQL, usually 2.5 for major and 4.0 for minor defects, looking closely at slits, hems and dupatta edges.

Questions buyers ask

How much cloth does a salwar kameez set need?

It depends on the cut. A college teaching reference gives typically 2.50 m each for a kameez and a medium-fit salwar, in cloth 42 to 48 inches wide. A Patiala takes 3.50 to 4.50 m and an Anarkali suit about 6.50 m. The seller confirms against its pattern.

Can one kameez be sold with different bottoms?

Yes. The bottom is a separate choice, so one printed kameez can be paired with a salwar, churidar, Patiala or palazzo. Each bottom needs its own pattern, size chart and cloth length, checked against its approved sample before the sets are packed.

Which rules apply to a salwar kameez sold in the US?

Usually three: a fibre label in English generic names (16 CFR Part 303), a permanent care label (Part 423), and the Part 1610 burn test for plain cloth under 2.6 ounces per square yard unless wholly polyester, nylon, acrylic, modacrylic, olefin or wool.

When must salwar kameez stock be ready for Eid 2027?

Eid-ul-Fitr 2027 is expected around 9 to 11 March, after Ramadan from about 8 February. Shopping starts with Ramadan, and Keraniganj wholesale buyers arrive from the day after Shab-e-Barat, so pack sets before then. Roptan confirms the slot in the quote.
