Buying lawn and cotton suits in Bangladesh
Lawn is a fine, light plain-weave cotton made from combed yarn, crisper than voile but less crisp than organza, and it breathes well in warm weather. A lawn suit is a printed or embroidered kameez, bottom and dupatta, sold unstitched or ready-made. Shops in Bangladesh sell lawn and cotton suits for summer and Eid, and many Islampur importers bring cloth in from India and Pakistan.
Fine cotton hides its faults until it is cut or washed: a low thread count, weak tear strength, shrinkage and prints that rub off. A lawn and cotton suit supplier in Bangladesh should test the cloth before it is made up. Roptan sources from verified sellers, writes count, print and tests into the order, checks the cloth and print, and inspects the sets.
How to brief a lawn and cotton suit supplier in Bangladesh
- Yarn count and construction
- Lawn is usually woven from 60s yarn or finer. State the count and the ends and picks per inch; labs count threads per unit length to EN ISO 7211-2:2024.
- Weight
- State GSM measured on a named method, such as EN 12127 for small samples, and approve a swatch at the quoted weight.
- Pieces and lengths
- How many pieces form a set and each one's cloth and length: typically 2.50 m for a kameez and 2.50 m for a salwar in 42 to 48 inch cloth, per a teaching reference.
- Finish
- Soft, semi-crisp or crisp: lawn is never fully stiff. Send a reference swatch for the hand you want.
- Print rights
- Confirm in the order that each print is the seller's own design or licensed to you.
Tests for fine cotton suiting
- ISO 13937-2 and ISO 13938-2
- Tear force on trouser-shaped specimens, and bursting strength by the pneumatic method. Set limits for both on light lawn and voile.
- ISO 5077 with ISO 3759 and ISO 6330
- Shrinkage after washing and drying, on specimens marked to ISO 3759 and washed to ISO 6330. Test the cloth before cutting, not only the finished suit.
- ISO 14184-1 and ISO 3071
- Free and hydrolysed formaldehyde by water extraction, and the pH of the water extract. Ask for both on finished cloth where your market sets limits.
- 16 CFR Part 1610
- The US burn test exempts plain cotton cloth only at 2.6 ounces per square yard (about 88 g/m2) or more, so a lighter lawn needs a test before US sale.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends on where the cloth comes from, the print and the embroidery. Local cotton and khadi can be booked in Bangladesh; imported cloth waits on a letter of credit, which banks could not always open on time, a 2026 trade report said. Digital printing needs no screens, while hand embroidery adds more time. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum in the quote.
We deliver unstitched sets folded in their bags and ready-made suits by size, to shops, warehouses and online sellers anywhere in Bangladesh. Each lot comes with a packing list by design and colour, any cloth test reports, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between lawn, voile and cambric?
All three are light plain-woven cottons. Lawn is fine and slightly crisp, from combed high-count yarn; voile is softer, with a higher thread count than most cotton; cambric is bleached, piece-dyed and often glazed for a smooth face. Approve a swatch of each before bulk.
Can you source lawn and cotton suits in local cloth?
Yes. Woven cotton cloth is made in Bangladesh, and khadi and handloom cotton are local options beside imported lawn. Tell us the count, finish and print you need; we quote local or imported cloth and say how each affects the time.
How do I stop a lawn print from fading?
Ask for fastness to washing (ISO 105-C06), rubbing (X12) and light (B02) on the printed cloth before cutting, with staining graded on the ISO 105-A03 scale. Reactive inks are used on cotton and linen; approve a strike-off and have it washed before bulk.
When do new lawn prints come out?
In Pakistan, new lawn ranges are released from February each year. Ramadan 2027 is expected to start around 8 February and Eid-ul-Fitr around 9 to 11 March, so the two fall close together; settle Eid designs early. Roptan confirms dates in the quote.
How soon will I hear back about ethnic wear and sarees?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
