Buying servo drives and motors in Bangladesh

A servo system is a drive and motor working in closed loop. The drive takes a speed, torque or position command, reads the motor's feedback sensor and corrects any error, using current, velocity and position loops. Machine builders and plants in Bangladesh use servo axes wherever position or speed must follow a command closely.

A servo sized from a kW figure alone can overheat or miss its cycle time. As your servo drive and motor supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan works from your load and motion profile, asks the seller for sizing data that shows the torque fits, sources the drive, motor and cables as one set, checks the papers and delivers.

Kinds of servo drive and motor

Brushless AC servo motors

Permanent-magnet brushless motors, electronically commutated, give high performance in a compact package. Small industrial servo motors are typically of this kind, sold with a drive matched to their feedback.

Brushed DC servo motors

Simple servos use brushed permanent-magnet DC motors. For a like-for-like replacement, send the old motor's nameplate and ask the seller to confirm a drive that supports it.

Induction motors with vector drives

Large servo axes often use AC induction motors on variable frequency drives with feedback. Choose them for large axes, and ask for the motor, encoder and drive to come as one tested set.

Closed-loop steppers

A stepper can run open loop at relatively low cost, but without feedback a heavy load makes it miss steps. Closed-loop steppers, now more popular, add an encoder; a full servo pays off more on larger systems.

How to brief a servo drive and motor supplier in Bangladesh

Motion profile
Give distance, speed, acceleration, dwell and cycle time for each move. The seller sizes on peak torque and on RMS torque, the time-weighted average over the cycle.
Load inertia and gearbox
State the load inertia and any gearbox, which cuts the inertia the motor sees by the square of the ratio. An inertia ratio of 10:1 or less, load to motor, is a common rule of thumb.
Command and interface
Say whether the controller commands speed, torque or position, and over which interface, so the drive and PLC use the same profile.
Feedback
Incremental encoders are simpler and cheaper but must be homed after power-up. Absolute encoders know the position at switch-on; some multi-turn types keep their count on a battery.
Heat at the machine
Give the maximum ambient at the machine. Summer maxima usually reach 38 to 41 °C, and higher ambient cuts the motor's ability to shed heat, which may need derating or a larger size.
Supply dips
Supply sags and surges reach the drive. Ask how it behaves on undervoltage and how long it rides through.

Standards and test reports for servo systems

IEC 61800-5-1:2022 and IEC 61800-3:2022
Electrical, thermal and energy safety, and EMC, for the servo drive as a power drive system. Ask for both reports for the drive model quoted.
IEC 61800-5-2:2016
Functional safety of drives within the IEC 61508 framework. Ask for the certified safety functions, such as safe torque off, if an axis needs them.
IEC 61800-7-1:2015
A generic interface and profiles between a drive and the controller's program, not tied to one network. It does not cover functional safety.
IEC 60034-1:2026
Rating and performance of rotating machines; the 2022 edition is withdrawn. A motor with an integrated converter counts as a drive system under IEC 61800.

What moves the price of a servo drive and motor

  • Torque and speed: the continuous and peak torque the motion profile needs.
  • Feedback: absolute and multi-turn encoders cost more than incremental ones.
  • Gearbox and holding brake options, where the axis design calls for them.
  • Interface: network cards and drive profiles beyond a basic pulse or analogue command.
  • Safety functions such as safe torque off, with certified data.
  • Tuning and commissioning time for each axis on the machine.

Lead times and delivery

A servo axis ships as a set: drive, motor, encoder cable and power cable. The slowest part sets the date, so Roptan asks the seller to confirm each part number is in stock in Dhaka or give an import date. Imported parts add sea freight and customs time at Chattogram. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver the sets to your plant or machine builder anywhere in Bangladesh. The seller or your machine builder mounts, wires and tunes each axis and runs it through the motion cycle. You receive the parameter files, the sizing data, encoder battery details where they apply, the drive's safety and EMC reports, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • A matched pairWe check that the motor and drive appear as a matched pair in the maker's sizing data, with continuous and peak torque and speed.
  • Torque inside the curveWe check the seller's sizing puts RMS torque in the continuous zone and peak torque within the intermittent zone.
  • Feedback and batteryWe check the feedback type is stated and, for battery multi-turn encoders, that the battery requirement is given.
  • Drive reportsWe check that IEC 61800-5-1 and IEC 61800-3 reports are supplied for the drive model quoted.

Questions buyers ask

Servo or stepper motor?

A stepper is cheaper and runs without an encoder, but only on loads well within its capacity, or it misses steps and loses position. A servo adds an encoder and controller at extra cost and holds position under changing loads; the advantage grows on larger systems.

Incremental or absolute encoder?

Incremental if the machine can home to a reference point after every power-up: it is simpler, cheaper and works at faster speeds. Absolute if the axis must know its position at switch-on. Absolute encoders cost more, and some multi-turn types need a battery.

Can we replace only the motor or only the drive?

Usually only with a model the maker lists as compatible, because the drive is set up for one motor's data and feedback. Send both nameplates and any parameter file. Whatever is replaced, the seller retunes the axis on the machine.

Why does the seller ask for our motion profile?

Because a servo is sized on torque over the cycle, not on power. Peak torque during acceleration may fall in the motor's intermittent zone, but RMS torque over the whole cycle must sit in the continuous zone, or the motor overheats.

How soon will I hear back about industrial automation and drives?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
