Buying PLC controllers in Bangladesh

A programmable logic controller is a hardened industrial computer that reads inputs from switches and sensors, runs a stored program and switches outputs, built to replace relay logic. Machine builders and plant engineers in Bangladesh use PLCs to run single machines and whole lines, often with an operator screen and drives on one network.

A PLC is only as useful as the program your team can maintain. As your PLC controller supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan turns your I/O list and network into one specification, sources from a verified seller, checks the test report and the program handover terms, and delivers. The seller or your system integrator programs and commissions it.

Kinds of PLC controller

Compact PLCs

A single box, also called a brick, with a fixed number of inputs and outputs and usually a few expansion modules. Choose it for one machine whose I/O count will not change much.

Modular PLCs

A rack or chassis that holds separate power supply, processor, I/O and communication modules. Choose it where I/O, networks or spare capacity will grow, or the line will be extended.

Programmable logic relays

A simpler, lower-cost step below a PLC, usually not modular or expandable. It suits light duties with a few I/O points and fixed functions; choose a PLC when the machine will change.

Safety PLCs

Safety-rated controllers with a restricted instruction set for safety-critical functions, covered by IEC 61131-6 within the IEC 61508 framework. Choose one when a control fault must not leave the machine unsafe.

How to brief a PLC controller supplier in Bangladesh

I/O count and type
Count digital inputs and outputs, and analogue signals, typically 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA. Add spares, and state the output type each load needs.
Fast signals
A PLC reads inputs, runs the program and writes outputs in a repeating scan. Name any encoder or fast counting input, since these usually need special counter modules.
Network and protocol
Name the protocol each HMI, drive and meter uses, such as Modbus, and the port, so the PLC speaks it natively. Many industrial protocols are tied to one maker.
Programming language
Say which IEC 61131-3 language your maintenance staff can read: ladder diagram, function block diagram, structured text or sequential function chart.
Program ownership
Write into the order who owns the source program and the software licence, and that both reach you at handover.
Panel and control power
PLCs tolerate dust, moisture and heat better than office computers, but summer maxima of 38 to 41 °C and storm surges still call for a ventilated panel and a stabilised, surge-protected control supply.
Network security
For a networked PLC, ask about user accounts, signed firmware and disabling unused ports, and whether the model is assessed against IEC 62443-4-2.

Standards and test reports for PLCs

IEC 61131-2:2017
Equipment requirements and tests: functional and EMC requirements and tests, including temperature and type testing. It replaced the 2007 edition, which is withdrawn.
IEC 61010-2-201:2024
Safety requirements for control equipment such as PLCs and their peripherals. It replaced the 2017 edition in October 2024.
IEC 61131-3:2025
Programming languages. The 2013 edition was withdrawn in May 2025; the current edition names structured text, ladder diagram, function block diagram and sequential function chart.
IEC 60204-1
Electrical equipment of machines (2016 edition with Amendment 1:2021). The panel builder follows it when the PLC sits in a machine panel.

What moves the price of a PLC controller

  • I/O count and expansion: a modular rack usually costs more than a single-box unit.
  • Processor size and memory for the program and the data it logs.
  • Safety rating: a safety PLC with certified functions in place of a standard controller.
  • Communication modules for each extra network, protocol or remote I/O station.
  • Programming: the hours to write, test and document the program and the operator screens.

Lead times and delivery

Lead time depends on whether the exact processor and every I/O module are in stock in Dhaka or imported to order, and on who writes the program. One missing module can hold the whole order, so Roptan asks the seller to confirm each part number. Imported parts add freight and customs time. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity in the quote.

We deliver the PLC, modules and cables to your plant or panel builder anywhere in Bangladesh. The seller or your integrator loads the program and tests each input and output against the drawings. You receive the source program, a backup, the I/O list, wiring drawings, the test report, the warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Test report for the modelWe check that an IEC 61131-2:2017 test report covers the processor and I/O modules quoted, including the temperature range.
  • A language your team readsWe check the program will be written in a language and editor your maintenance staff can use.
  • Source and backup handoverWe check that the order states the source program and a backup are handed over at commissioning.
  • Safety evidenceIf a safety PLC is specified, we check for IEC 61131-6 and IEC 61508 evidence for that model.

Questions buyers ask

Should we buy a compact or a modular PLC?

Compact if the PLC runs one machine with a stable I/O count, since its expansion is limited. Modular if the I/O, networks or spares will grow, since a rack takes added modules. Send the I/O list with spares, and the seller shows where each option runs out.

Will a new PLC talk to our existing drives and HMIs?

Only if they share a protocol and port. Many protocols are tied to one maker; Modbus is common because it is openly published and royalty-free. List each device with its port and protocol, and we ask the seller to confirm native support or name the gateway needed.

Is Instruction List still a standard language?

No. It was deprecated in the third edition of IEC 61131-3, and the 2025 edition names structured text, ladder diagram, function block diagram and sequential function chart. If an old machine uses Instruction List, ask whether the new controller's software can import the program.

Do PLCs need BSTI certification?

We ask the seller to state in writing whether any BSTI requirement applies to the model quoted, and to show the certificate if one does. Radio-equipped units are a separate case: the importer usually needs BTRC enlistment and a No Objection Certificate before the shipment arrives.

How soon will I hear back about industrial automation and drives?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?

With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
