Buying hotel furniture in Bangladesh

Hotel furniture is the fitted and loose furniture of guest rooms, lobbies, restaurants and terraces, built to the designer's drawings and repeated room after room. Hotel owners, developers and fit-out contractors in Bangladesh buy it for new hotels and refurbishments. It takes heavier daily use than home furniture, so it is tested to the non-domestic level.

How to specify hotel furniture

Room schedule and drawings: List every room type with its pieces and quantities, with dimensioned drawings and the finish schedule.
Contract use level: State that tests must be at the non-domestic level for seating, tables and storage, for adults up to 110 kg.
Tops and worktops: Name HPL to EN 438 by edition, veneer or solid wood, and the cold liquid and dry heat resistance the finish must show.
Moisture for air-conditioned rooms: Guest rooms are usually air-conditioned, where wood can settle as low as about 6 to 7 per cent. Give the maker a moisture target to dry to.
Upholstery and fire: Name the fabric, filling and the fire test route for the market, and say who approves a fabric change.
Formaldehyde: Name the board class for the destination. Hotel guests are the general public, so do not assume a professional-use exemption.
Storage before delivery: Bangladesh is humid for much of the year: ask for pieces kept dry, wrapped and off the floor until the site is ready.

Standards and tests for hotel furniture

EN 16139:2025 and EN 15372:2023: Non-domestic seating and tables for lobbies, restaurants and rooms. The seating standard does not cover flammability, so fire tests are separate.
EN 16121:2023 and EN 1725:2023: Non-domestic storage such as wardrobes and minibar units, and adult beds for domestic and non-domestic use.
EN 438-2:2016+A1:2018: Properties of high-pressure decorative laminate for desk tops and counters. Ask for this edition; the plain 2016 edition was withdrawn in 2019.
BS 7176, BS 5852, EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2: BS 7176 sets the UK ignition resistance level for non-domestic seating, tested by BS 5852 or the EN 1021 cigarette and match-flame tests.
EU and US formaldehyde rules: Since 6 August 2026 the EU limit for furniture is 0.062 mg/m3. In the US, board must be TSCA Title VI certified and labelled.

What moves the price of hotel furniture

Materials: solid wood, veneer or HPL over board, and certified low-emission board for export projects.
Upholstery: contract fabric, filling and fire tests per fabric and market.
Number of designs: many one-off pieces cost more per piece than one room type repeated.
Imported inputs: furniture makers in Bangladesh usually import raw materials, so exchange rates feed into the quote.

Lead times and delivery

No single figure fits a hotel project. Time grows with the number of room types, approval of shop drawings and samples, imported fabric, hardware or laminate, tests on each piece type, and site readiness. Buying hotel furniture for export

Hotel furniture has no customs line of its own: wooden bedroom pieces usually enter under HS 9403.50, other wooden furniture 9403.60 and seats under 9401. We quote FOB Chattogram. EUDR Annex I names wooden furniture and wooden seats, so EU projects need due diligence information from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators. US importers ask for the wood species and its source under the Lacey Act. Raw-wood pallets need ISPM 15 marks.

Which standards apply to guest room furniture?

Usually the non-domestic ones: EN 1725:2023 for beds, EN 16121:2023 for wardrobes and minibar units, EN 15372:2023 for tables, and EN 16139:2025 for chairs. Ask for each report in the current edition.

Is hotel furniture exempt from the EU formaldehyde limit?

Not for guest areas. The exemption for professional-use articles does not apply when formaldehyde from them reaches the general public, and hotel guests are the public. Since 6 August 2026 the limit for furniture is 0.062 mg/m3.

Which fire test do UK hotel lounge chairs need?

BS 7176 sets the ignition resistance for non-domestic seating, tested by BS 5852 or EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2. Agree the level with the project's fire adviser before the fabric is ordered.
