Buying dining furniture in Bangladesh
Dining furniture is the table, the chairs around it and the sideboard or buffet beside it. Families, developers, restaurants, cafes and hotels buy it in Bangladesh, and importers buy wooden dining sets for homes and contract use. A dining set takes daily loads, spills and heat, so its strength and its finish both need testing.
As your dining furniture manufacturer in Bangladesh, Roptan works through verified makers: we put quotes on one basis of material, moisture, finish and tests, check that reports match home or restaurant use in the current editions, and inspect the packed sets. You deal with Roptan only.
How to specify dining furniture
- Size and seats
- Give the top size in mm, height, the number of seats and any extension leaf, so chair spacing and leg position work.
- Home or commercial use
- Requirements differ for domestic and non-domestic tables and seating, so say whether the set goes to a home or a restaurant.
- Top material
- Solid timber, veneer over board, laminate or glass. For kitchens and humid rooms ask for moisture-resistant MDF, classed in Europe under EN 622-5.
- Finish resistance
- Name the cold liquids and heat the top must resist and the test times, and ask for test panels finished like the bulk.
- Moisture for the destination
- Wood settles to the air of its room and can fall to about 6 to 7 per cent in air-conditioned buildings. Give the maker a target for your market.
- Dry storage
- Bangladesh is humid for much of the year: ask for finished tops kept flat, off the floor and packed dry.
Standards and tests for dining furniture
- EN 12521:2023 and EN 12520:2024
- Safety, strength and durability of domestic tables, including glass tables, and domestic seating for users up to 110 kg. The 2015 editions are withdrawn.
- EN 15372:2023 and EN 16139:2025
- The non-domestic requirements for tables and seating in restaurants, cafes and hotels. Check the year on the report.
- EN 12720 and EN 12722
- Surface resistance to cold liquids and to dry heat on rigid surfaces. The liquids and test times are agreed in the specification.
- EN 1022:2023
- Tip-over resistance of seating for adults up to 110 kg, whatever the material. Ask for it on light dining chairs.
- EU and US formaldehyde rules
- Since 6 August 2026 the EU limit for furniture is 0.062 mg/m3. In the US, board in tables and sideboards must be TSCA Title VI certified and labelled.
Lead times and delivery
No single figure fits every order. Time grows with a new design that needs a sample, timber that must be kiln dried, imported board or fabric, and finish tests on your panels; repeat designs are quicker. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum quantity in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to homes, flats, restaurants and hotels. The seller fixes legs, levels tables and sets out the chairs, and we check each set against the approved sample. You receive the delivery challan, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying dining furniture for export
Wooden dining and living room furniture enters under HS 9403.60, wooden-frame chairs under 9401.61 (upholstered) or 9401.69. We quote FOB Chattogram. EUDR Annex I names wooden furniture and wooden seats, so tables, sideboards and wooden chairs need due diligence information from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators, 30 June 2027 for micro and small. US importers ask for the wood species and its source under the Lacey Act. Raw-wood pallets need ISPM 15 marks.
Questions buyers ask
Which standard applies to restaurant tables and chairs?
The non-domestic ones: EN 15372:2023 for tables and EN 16139:2025 for seating. The domestic standards, EN 12521:2023 and EN 12520:2024, are for home use. Name the level on the order so the report matches.
My report cites EN 1730. Is that enough?
Not on its own. EN 1730:2012 gives test methods for tables but sets no requirements. Ask which requirement standard the results were judged against, such as EN 12521 for homes or EN 15372 for restaurants.
How do I stop heat marks and water rings on the top?
Write the test into the order. EN 12720 covers cold liquids and EN 12722 dry heat; you agree the liquids and times, and the maker runs them on panels finished like the bulk.
Do wooden dining chairs need EU deforestation paperwork?
Yes. EUDR Annex I names seats of wood and wooden furniture, including parts. Large and medium operators apply it from 30 December 2026, micro and small from 30 June 2027, and the EU Timber Regulation is repealed on 30 December 2026.
How soon will I hear back about furniture?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
