Buying bedroom furniture in Bangladesh
Bedroom furniture means the bed and the storage around it: wardrobes and chests of drawers. Families, developers, hostels and staff housing buy it in Bangladesh, and importers buy wooden bedroom sets by the container. A bed carries weight every night; a tall chest has to stay upright when a child climbs it.
As your bedroom furniture manufacturer in Bangladesh, Roptan works through verified makers: we put quotes on one basis of material, moisture, hardware and finish, check that each report covers your exact pieces, and inspect the packed sets. You deal with Roptan only.
How to specify bedroom furniture
- Bed size and support
- Give the mattress size, the base type and whether there is a central rail, and the heaviest user for hostel or hotel beds.
- Solid wood or board
- Knock-down pieces are mostly particle board or MDF. For damp rooms ask for moisture-resistant MDF, classed in Europe under EN 622-5.
- Moisture for the destination
- Wood settles to the air of its room and can fall to about 6 to 7 per cent in air-conditioned buildings. State the target, since wood shrinks as it dries.
- Formaldehyde
- Particle board is usually bonded with a formaldehyde-based resin. Name the board and the emission rule for your market on the order.
- Tip-over and wall fixing
- For chests and wardrobes, state the market's tip-over rule and ask for an anti-tip fixing in every carton.
- Storage before packing
- Bangladesh is humid for much of the year: ask for finished pieces kept off the floor and packed dry.
Standards and rules for bedroom furniture
- EN 1725:2023
- Safety, strength and durability of assembled adult beds, frame and base included, for users up to 110 kg. It excludes bunk beds.
- EN 747-1:2024 and EN 747-2:2024
- Requirements and test methods for bunk beds and high beds, where the base sits 600 mm or more above the floor. The 2012 editions are replaced.
- EN 14749:2016+A1:2022 and EN 16122:2012
- Safety, strength, durability and stability tests for storage furniture. Wall-hung units are tested with their fixings, not the wall.
- 16 CFR Part 1261 and ASTM F2057-23
- The US tip-over rule for clothing storage made since 1 September 2023, protecting children up to 72 months. Ask for a report on your exact unit.
- EU and US formaldehyde rules
- Since 6 August 2026 the EU limit for furniture is 0.062 mg/m3. US composite wood must be certified and labelled TSCA Title VI compliant.
Lead times and delivery
No single figure fits every order. Time grows with a new design that needs a sample, a timber lot to kiln dry, imported board or hardware, and a tip-over or formaldehyde test on your unit; repeat designs are quicker. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum quantity in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh we deliver to homes, flats, hostels and staff housing. The seller assembles beds and wardrobes in the room, levels doors and drawers, and fixes tall units to the wall. You receive the delivery challan, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying bedroom furniture for export
Wooden bedroom furniture enters under HS 9403.50; metal beds sit under 9403.20, and mattresses under 9404. We quote FOB Chattogram. EUDR Annex I names wooden furniture, so EU importers need due diligence information on the wood from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators, 30 June 2027 for micro and small. US importers ask for the wood species and its source under the Lacey Act. Raw-wood pallets need ISPM 15 marks.
Questions buyers ask
Does a chest of drawers for the US need a tip-over test?
Yes. 16 CFR Part 1261 covers free-standing clothing storage made after 1 September 2023 and requires compliance with ASTM F2057-23, to protect children up to 72 months. Ask for the report on your exact unit before bulk.
Is a CARB Phase 2 label enough on US-bound wardrobes?
No. Since 22 March 2019 composite wood must be labelled TSCA Title VI compliant, and only board certified by an EPA-recognised third-party certifier may be imported, including inside finished goods such as wardrobes and beds.
What moisture content should bedroom furniture leave at?
It depends on the room it will stand in. Air-conditioned or centrally heated rooms can bring wood down to about 6 to 7 per cent, and wood shrinks as it dries, so give the maker a target for your market.
Which standard applies to bunk beds?
EN 747-1:2024 and EN 747-2:2024 in Europe, for beds whose base is 600 mm or more above the floor; EN 1725:2023 excludes them. In the US, the safety commission advises the top bunk only for children aged 6 and over.
How soon will I hear back about furniture?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
