Buying crossflow towers in Bangladesh
In a crossflow tower the air moves sideways through the fill while the water falls across it by gravity from a hot water basin on top. The basin is a deep pan with holes or nozzles in its floor, so the pump only lifts water to the basin. A crossflow tower supplier in Bangladesh sells two builds: factory-assembled package units and field-erected towers, usually in pultruded FRP.
The two builds are bought and proved differently. Roptan has each verified seller state flow, range, approach and design wet bulb, checks whether the model is a certified series tower or needs a site test, and looks at fill access and steel protection for your site. The seller erects and commissions the tower.
How to specify a crossflow tower
- Flow range, not one flow
- Give the design flow and the lowest flow you will run. Gravity distribution without pressurised spray usually makes part flow simpler to handle.
- Design conditions
- State hot and cold water temperatures and the design wet bulb from your consultant. Dhaka's mean relative humidity is about 82 to 83 percent from June to September.
- Pump head
- State the head your pump has left at the tower. A crossflow basin needs water lifted to it, not sprayed, which usually allows a smaller pump.
- Dust and lint
- Crossflow fill usually collects more dirt than counterflow fill on dusty or sandy sites. Ask for clear access to the fill and a side-stream filter for suspended solids.
- Make-up water
- Send hardness and iron figures. Where hardness limits cycles of concentration, softening can be added beside the filter.
- Corrosivity category
- Near the coast or a chemical plant, name the ISO 12944-2 corrosivity category so frames, fan guards and hardware get a matching paint or galvanising system.
Tests and standards for a crossflow tower supplier in Bangladesh
- CTI STD-201
- Certifies the thermal ratings of factory-assembled models in unobstructed air. Custom and field-erected towers fall outside it, so the contract needs a field test instead.
- CTI ATC-105
- The current edition is the acceptance test a CTI licensed agent runs on site with owner and maker present. Write it into the contract for a field-erected tower.
- EN 13741 and EN 14705
- European acceptance tests: EN 13741 for series mechanical draught towers, EN 14705 for non-series towers, including pumping head.
- NFPA 214
- The Standard on Water-Cooling Towers. Combustible fill and casing can carry fire inside a tower, and some codes call for sprinklers, so ask the seller.
Lead times and delivery
No fixed lead time can be given for crossflow towers. A package unit from a running catalogue line is usually the quicker route. A field-erected tower takes longer, since it is designed for the duty, its FRP sections may be imported and cleared at Chattogram, and it is built and tested on site. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum order in the quote.
Roptan delivers a package tower ready to set, or the sections and fill of a field-erected tower, to your site anywhere in Bangladesh. The seller erects it, levels the hot water basin so every hole carries water, aligns the fan and records a test run with flows and temperatures. Handover includes drawings, the O&M manual, test records, warranty and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
Can a crossflow tower be cleaned while it runs?
Usually, yes. The hot water basin is open on top and gravity spreads the water, so the basin holes and the top of the fill can be inspected and cleared while the tower keeps running. Ask the seller to show safe access to the basin on the drawing.
Is a crossflow tower a good choice for a dusty site?
It works, but plan for it. Crossflow fill usually collects more dirt than counterflow fill where air carries dust or sand. A side-stream filter on the basin water and clear fill access keep cooling from falling between shutdowns.
Do I need a package or a field-erected tower?
Package units are factory-assembled and limited in capacity, so they suit smaller heat loads. Larger duties need a field-erected tower. Because a field-erected tower sits outside CTI's certification programme, agree a site acceptance test before you sign.
Induced or forced draft for a tower beside a building?
Usually induced draft. With the fan on top, exhaust air leaves fast and upward. A forced draft tower discharges more slowly, so warm, wet air is more likely to return to its inlet when walls are close.
How soon will I hear back about cooling towers?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
