Buying cooling tower fill in Bangladesh
Fill is the pack inside a cooling tower that spreads the falling water and holds it in the air stream, raising both the contact surface and the contact time. How well a tower cools depends on the fill chosen and how much of it there is. A cooling tower fill supplier in Bangladesh sells it for new towers and as replacement packs, bought apart from the tower.
Wrong fill costs capacity quietly: a material too weak for the water temperature, packs that leave gaps, or less fill than the design. Roptan has each verified seller match your tower and water, checks the material grade and dimensions against your old packs and asks for fire test papers. The seller can fit it during your shutdown.
How to specify cooling tower fill
- Tower and cell
- Crossflow or counterflow, round or square, the cell size and the fill height. For a refill, add the nameplate and the old pack dimensions.
- Hottest water
- Give the highest inlet temperature the fill will see, not the average. It decides between PVC film and a higher temperature plastic.
- Volume of fill
- State the volume or the number of packs the design calls for. Less fill than the design means less cooling, whatever the material.
- Water quality
- Send suspended solids, hardness and iron. About 70 percent of mainly groundwater sources in a 2009 national survey were above 0.3 mg/L iron, which stains and fouls fill.
- Dust on site
- Crossflow fill usually collects more dirt than counterflow fill on dusty or sandy sites. Plan a side-stream filter to take suspended solids out.
- Fire behaviour
- Plastic fill can burn. Ask for the fire test report for the exact fill grade and say whether the tower has sprinklers.
Ratings, tests and safety for new fill
- CTI STD-201
- Certifies a tower model's thermal rating as the maker builds it. Ask whether the replacement fill is the type the certified rating was based on.
- CTI ATC-105
- The current edition of CTI's field acceptance code. After a refill on a large tower, a field test shows whether the design capability is back.
- NFPA 214
- The Standard on Water-Cooling Towers. Combustible fill and casing can carry fire inside a tower, and some codes call for sprinklers.
- ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 188-2021
- Minimum Legionella risk management for building water systems. Biofilm grows in cooling water and cuts heat transfer, so the plan should cover dosing and fill cleaning.
Lead times and delivery
No fixed lead time can be given for fill. Stock sheet sizes in standard PVC are usually the quicker route. Packs cut to an older tower, higher temperature plastics, imported fill cleared at Chattogram and fitting tied to your shutdown window take longer. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum order in the quote, so order before the shutdown is fixed.
Roptan delivers the packs to your site anywhere in Bangladesh. If fitting is ordered, the seller removes the old fill, cleans the basin and distribution, fits the new packs without gaps, and runs the tower with flow and temperatures recorded. You receive the material sheet, the fire test report where asked, the pack list and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
How do I know the fill needs replacing?
Measure first. If the cold water runs warmer than before at the same flow, hot water temperature and wet bulb, look at the fill. Scale, iron staining, biofilm and broken sheets all cut cooling. If the casing and basin are sound, refilling is often the first step to price.
Can I use standard PVC fill for hot process water?
Not above its rating. Standard PVC film is usually rated to about 55 °C inlet water. For process water up to about 100 °C, makers usually offer HIPS or ABS fill. Give the highest temperature the tower will see, including upsets, not the normal running figure.
What do you need to source matching fill?
The tower nameplate, whether it is crossflow or counterflow, the cell size, the fill height and pack dimensions, the material, the hottest water temperature and a photo of the old fill. With those, we ask verified sellers for packs that fit without gaps.
Does cooling tower fill burn?
Plastic fill and some casings are combustible, and a fire can spread inside the tower structure. Some codes call for sprinklers on such towers, with NFPA 214 the usual reference. Ask for the fire test report for the grade you buy and tell the seller whether your tower has sprinklers.
How soon will I hear back about cooling towers?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
