Buying casual leather shoes in Bangladesh
Casual leather shoes are the everyday leather shoes worn without a suit: lace-ups, boat shoes and soft styles in smooth leather, nubuck, suede or nappa. Bangladesh exports them under the same customs line as formal shoes and loafers, so no separate export figure exists for casual styles. With a casual leather shoes manufacturer in Bangladesh, the leather surface drives most of the specification, the tests and the care advice.
Roptan sources these shoes for you. We match your sample to a verified maker that already works your leather, get the sole and leather named in the quote, check the test reports for every colour and check pairs before they leave. You deal with Roptan only.
How to specify casual leather shoes
- Leather surface and grade
- Smooth grain, nubuck, suede or nappa, plus the grade: full grain, corrected grain or split. 'Genuine leather' names no grade, so ask for a swatch from the lot.
- Construction
- A cemented sole is glued, lowest in cost and not practically resoleable; a welted sole can be replaced repeatedly but costs more. Name the one you want.
- Sole
- Name the sole material and pattern, and for boat shoes a non-marking rubber sole with siping. Ask for flex and bond results on that exact sole.
- Lacing and fit
- Open lacing for a roomier fit, or a slip-on for convenience. Approve fit on your last at more than one size before bulk.
- Size system
- EU sizes step 2/3 cm per whole size; UK and US sizes rest on the 1/3 inch barleycorn. State one system, the run and pairs per size.
Colour and chemical tests for casual leather shoes
- EN ISO 11640:2018
- Colour fastness of dyed leather to to-and-fro rubbing. Suede soils and takes up liquid more readily than smooth leather, so ask for the result in every colour.
- EN ISO 11641:2025
- Colour fastness of leather to perspiration. Name the 2025 edition, since the 2012 one was withdrawn in December 2025, and ask for it on linings.
- EN ISO 17075-1 or -2
- Chromium VI in leather, which REACH bars at 3 mg/kg or more in skin-contact parts. The two parts use different methods, so ask which one the lab used.
- EN ISO 17234-1:2024
- Azo colourants in dyed leather, run per colour. The 2020 edition was withdrawn at the end of 2024, so name the 2024 edition.
Lead times and delivery
Time depends mostly on the leather and the sole. Stock leather on the maker's existing last and sole moves faster; a custom colour waits for a tannery batch, and a new sole needs moulds. Tests run per colour, so more colours mean more lab time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum per colour in the quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers the boxed pairs to your store or warehouse, with a packing list by style, colour and size, the test reports, the inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). Nubuck scratches easily, so ask for each shoe to be wrapped before boxing.
Buying casual leather shoes for export
Importers usually buy FOB Chattogram. Casual leather-upper shoes that leave the ankle free usually fall under HS 6403.99, though a leather sports-style shoe may sit under 6403.19; your broker confirms the line. Origin goes on a REX statement for EU GSP or under UK DCTS rules, and EU retail pairs need material labels under Directive 94/11/EC.
Questions buyers ask
Nubuck or suede: which suits a casual range?
Nubuck, if you want a fine, even nap from the grain side; it usually costs more, scratches easily, and water drops darken it for a while. Suede comes from the underside of the skin: softer and more pliable but less durable, and it marks more readily. Both need a rubbing test in every colour.
What does nappa mean on a quote?
Only a soft leather, usually calf, lamb or kid. Nappa is a generic trade term with no test that defines it, so two makers can mean different leathers. Fix it with a swatch, the animal, the thickness and the feel, and hold the bulk to that swatch.
Can casual leather shoes be resoled?
Only if they are welted. A cemented shoe, with the sole glued to the upper, costs least to make but is effectively done once the sole wears out or the glue fails. If resoling matters to your customers, ask for a welted build and expect a higher price per pair.
Can one order mix nubuck and smooth leather styles?
Yes, but treat each leather and colour as its own line, with its own swatch approval, fastness results and chromium VI and azo tests, because surface and dye differ. The minimum is also set per colour, which Roptan confirms in the quote.
How soon will I hear back about leather footwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
