Buying PPE and site safety products in Bangladesh

Factories, construction contractors, hospitals, clinics, power plants and ports in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chattogram buy personal protective equipment by the carton. The Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 and Labour Rules 2015 require employers to provide the protective equipment the work needs, and the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) inspects. Sites also need signage, harnesses and traffic safety products such as convex mirrors for blind corners.

Some PPE carries a standard name on the box with no test report behind it, and a 2025 news report described fake certification logos on some products. A PPE supplier in Bangladesh should hand over the test report for the exact model. Tell us what you need. We source from verified sellers, check test reports and markings against the standard, inspect the lot and deliver to your stores. You deal with Roptan only.

PPE and site safety products we source

Surgical and face masks

Medical face masks are classed under EN 14683 by bacterial filtration: Type I at least 95 percent, Type II and IIR at least 98 percent, with IIR also resisting splashes. Choose IIR for surgery and procedures, and plain face masks for general hygiene.

N95 and KN95 respirators

Close-fitting respirators that filter at least 95 percent of test particles: N95 under the US NIOSH rules, KN95 under China's GB 2626, while European FFP2 under EN 149 filters at least 94 percent. Use them for dust, fumes and airborne infection risk.

Safety helmets and goggles

Industrial helmets to EN 397, tested for shock absorption and penetration, with optional markings for low or high temperature, electrical insulation and molten metal. Choose goggles or spectacles by the hazard: flying particles, dust, chemical splash or welding light.

Safety vests and coveralls

High-visibility vests and jackets to EN ISO 20471 come in class 1, 2 or 3, rising with risk; class 3 suits highway work and other work beside fast moving traffic. Choose coveralls by hazard: dust, chemical splash, flame or plain workwear, in a breathable fabric.

Safety harnesses and signage

Full-body harnesses to EN 361 for fall arrest, used with a lanyard, connector and anchor point that each have their own standard. Signage marks hazards, mandatory PPE zones, exits and first aid; state size, material and indoor or outdoor use.

Convex mirrors and traffic safety products

Convex mirrors show traffic round blind corners, warehouse aisles and car park ramps. State diameter, indoor or outdoor use and the wall or pole fixing. Cones, barriers and reflective tape complete site traffic control.

What to tell a PPE supplier in Bangladesh

Hazard and task
List each task and what it exposes people to: dust, fumes, infection, falling objects, traffic, work at height or splashes. The hazard sets the product and the standard, not the price.
Standard and level
Name the standard and level: EN 14683 Type IIR, N95, KN95 or FFP2, an EN 397 helmet, EN ISO 20471 class 2. A box that only says 'protective' tells you nothing.
Fit, straps and sizes
Give a size split for coveralls, vests and harnesses. A genuine N95 uses head straps, not ear loops; KN95 masks usually use ear loops. Ask for a fit check on respirators.
Heat and humidity
Long shifts in hot, humid weather call for breathable fabrics, vented helmets and comfortable respirators. Store stock dry, off the floor and out of direct sun, especially through the monsoon.
Dates and lot numbers
Ask for the manufacture date and lot number on every carton, and the shelf life the maker states for masks and respirators. Do not accept old stock against a new order.
Medical use
Masks for hospitals and clinics are medical devices. Since the Drug and Cosmetics Act 2023, ask the seller for its DGDA registration where one is required.

Standards and paperwork for protective equipment

EN 14683 and ASTM F2100
Medical face masks in Types I, II and IIR; the US ASTM F2100 levels 1 to 3 map roughly to them. Ask for the test report and the edition it cites.
NIOSH N95, GB 2626 KN95 and EN 149 FFP2
Respirator standards from the US, China and Europe. FFP2 and KN95 also limit total inward leakage to 8 percent. An N95 approval carries a NIOSH TC number you can check against the US CDC list.
EN 397
Industrial safety helmets: shock absorption with a 5 kg striker and transmitted force held to 5 kN, and penetration by a 3 kg pointed striker dropped from 1 m. Ask whether the marking is the 2012 or 2025 edition.
EN ISO 20471 and EN 361
High-visibility clothing in classes 1 to 3, and full-body harnesses for fall arrest. Ask for the certificate or test report for the exact model, not the product family.
Labour Act 2006, Labour Rules 2015 and DIFE
Employers must provide the protective equipment the work needs, and DIFE inspects. Keep issue records and test reports on file for inspections and audits.

What moves the price of PPE

  • Evidence: a respirator or helmet with a traceable test report costs more than an unmarked lookalike, and is what auditors accept.
  • Filter and fit: filter media, an exhalation valve and head straps on respirators; shell material and suspension on helmets.
  • Optional ratings: electrical insulation, temperature and molten metal markings on helmets add cost.
  • Fabric and tape: fabric weight, flame retardance and reflective tape quality on vests and coveralls.
  • Quantity and branding: carton quantity, single packing and printed company names change the unit price.

Lead times and delivery

Common masks, helmets, vests and signs are often held in stock in Dhaka. Respirators to a named standard, certified harnesses, flame-retardant coveralls and branded items are often imported or made to order and take longer, and customs clearance adds time. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum quantity for each order in the quote.

We deliver cartons to factory stores, hospitals and project sites across Bangladesh, from Gazipur and Ashulia to Chattogram and Mirsarai. Where agreed, the seller fixes signage and mirrors on site. You receive a packing list by item, size and lot, test report or certificate copies for each model, the manufacture dates, the warranty where one applies, and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Trade licence in the quoted nameCurrent, and in the same name as the quote, so the VAT invoice and any replacement claim come from the business you pay.
  • Test report for the exact modelCertificate or lab report checked against the model, size and standard quoted; for an N95, the NIOSH TC number checked against the approval list.
  • Lot inspection on arrivalMarkings, straps, dates, sizes and counts checked on a sample from your cartons before payment, so lookalike stock is caught early.
  • Delivery and fittingDelivery to each store or site, and fixing of signage and mirrors where needed, included or priced in the quote.

Questions buyers ask

What is the difference between N95, KN95 and FFP2 respirators?

They are respirator standards from the US, China and Europe. N95 and KN95 filter at least 95 percent of test particles and FFP2 at least 94 percent, and FFP2 and KN95 also cap total inward leakage. A genuine N95 uses head straps. Buy the one your client or auditor names.

Is a surgical mask enough, or do we need a respirator?

It depends on the hazard. A surgical mask to EN 14683 suits clinical work and general hygiene, and Type IIR adds splash resistance. A respirator such as an N95, KN95 or FFP2 is built to seal to the face and filter fine particles, so choose one for dust, fumes and airborne infection risk.

How do we spot fake N95 masks?

Check the TC approval number printed on the mask against the US CDC list of NIOSH approved respirators, look for head straps rather than ear loops, and ask for the test report. We check markings and documents on a sample from every lot before delivery.

Which high-visibility class do we need?

EN ISO 20471 has three classes, rising with the risk. Class 3 suits highway work, emergency response and other work near fast moving traffic; classes 1 and 2 cover lower risks. Class 2 is not a lighter class 3, so specify by the risk on site, not by price.

Do safety helmets protect against electric shock?

Only if the helmet carries that marking. Under EN 397, electrical insulation is an optional extra, like the low temperature, high temperature and molten metal markings, and it is shown on the helmet. For electrical work, ask for the insulation marking and the test report that backs it.

How soon will I hear back about PPE and site safety products?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
