Buying water cooled chillers in Bangladesh
A water cooled chiller sits indoors and passes its heat to a condenser water circuit that runs to an outdoor cooling tower. Two circuits never mix: chilled water goes to the building or process coils, condenser water goes to the tower. Large buildings, hospitals and factories in Bangladesh choose it for long, heavy loads where a plant room and a tower can be found.
A water cooled chiller supplier in Bangladesh has to look past the chiller to the tower, the pumps and the water. Roptan sends one specification to verified sellers, asks for ratings at the condenser water your tower can give in the monsoon, and compares the quotes line by line. We deliver; the seller installs and commissions.
What a water cooled chiller supplier in Bangladesh needs from you
- Load and chilled water
- The duty in TR or kW (1 TR is 3.517 kW). Comfort cooling is usually rated with water at 12 °C in and 7 °C out; a different spread changes the flow.
- Condenser water and wet bulb
- A tower cools water to near the wet bulb, and the monsoon wet bulb is high. State condenser water in and out at that condition, not at a mild one.
- Tower duty
- The tower rejects the building load plus the compressor's own heat. Size it to the chiller's heat rejection, flow, range and wet bulb: chiller tons and tower tons differ.
- Make-up water and fouling
- State the real quality of your make-up water. Hard or iron-rich water fouls condenser tubes faster; give the fouling allowance used in the rating.
- Plant room
- Dhaka floods almost every year, so a basement plant room needs raised plinths, drainage and electrical gear above the likely water line.
- Room exhaust
- A room holding a refrigerant charge needs its own mechanical exhaust. ASHRAE 15 is the US reference; the seller's drawing and your consultant's design set it here.
Ratings, standards and refrigerant rules
- AHRI certification
- AHRI certifies catalogue water cooled models for capacity, efficiency, water pressure drop and IPLV. Custom units are not listed, so ask whether the model quoted is.
- EN 14511 (2022 parts)
- The European rating series for chillers with electrically driven compressors. The 2018 editions are withdrawn, so ask for test results to the current parts.
- EN 378-1:2016+A1:2021 and EN 378-2:2016
- Safety and environmental rules for refrigerating systems. Part 2 covers design, construction, testing, marking and documents, and refers to the European pressure equipment and machinery rules.
- Kigali Amendment and HCFC-22 phase-out
- Bangladesh ratified Kigali on 8 June 2020 and is working towards an 85 percent cut in HFC use by 2045; HCFC-22 is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol. Ask about service supply of the refrigerant.
Lead times and delivery
Water cooled chillers are usually built to order, and the factory slot, sea freight to Chattogram and customs clearance add time. The tower, pumps and plant-room works run on their own schedule and often set the start-up date. Roptan confirms each date in the quote.
We deliver the chiller and, where ordered, the tower and pumps, and plan rigging into the plant room with space to pull tubes. The seller sets it on anti-vibration mounts, connects both circuits, starts it and records its performance. Handover usually includes the commissioning record, wiring diagrams, manuals, the water treatment plan and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
What condenser water temperature should the rating use?
The one your tower can deliver at the monsoon wet bulb. A tower cools water only to near the wet bulb, and in humid weather that is high, so condenser water runs warmer. A rating at milder condenser water overstates capacity and understates power.
Who looks after the cooling tower water?
Agree it before you order. Open towers lose water by evaporation, blowdown and drift, so they need make-up water and a treatment programme against scale, corrosion and biological growth, including Legionella. Ask the seller who does it after handover and what the contract covers.
Does the plant room need special ventilation?
Yes. A room with a refrigerant charge needs its own mechanical exhaust, and ASHRAE 15 is the US reference for the emergency purge rate. Ask your consultant which code applies and have the seller's drawing show the exhaust.
Which refrigerant should I ask about?
Ask which refrigerant the chiller uses and whether it will be on sale for service over the machine's life. Common chiller refrigerants such as R-134a are HFCs inside the Kigali phase-down that Bangladesh ratified in 2020.
How soon will I hear back about chillers?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
