Buying air cooled chillers in Bangladesh
An air cooled chiller is a factory-made package that cools water and throws the heat straight into outdoor air through finned coils and fans. It needs no cooling tower, condenser water pumps or condenser piping, so it stands outdoors on a roof or plinth. It suits sites where make-up water is poor or scarce, or where a tower will not fit.
An air cooled chiller supplier in Bangladesh should quote the machine at your site, not at a mild test point. Roptan sends one specification to verified sellers, asks each for capacity and power at your hottest roof air and compares the quotes item by item. We deliver the unit; the seller installs and commissions it.
How to brief an air cooled chiller supplier in Bangladesh
- Capacity at peak air
- Give the duty in TR or kW (1 TR is 3.517 kW) and ask for the capacity curve at your hottest roof air. Summer highs usually reach 38 to 41 °C, with April hottest.
- Water temperatures
- Comfort cooling is usually rated with water returning at 12 °C and leaving at 7 °C. State your own figures: a different spread changes the water flow for the same load.
- Clearance and airflow
- Walls, screens and nearby plant make hot discharge air recirculate, which cuts capacity and raises power. Fix the position to the seller's clearance drawing.
- Coils
- Coils are usually copper tube with aluminium fins. Near the coast or in dusty industrial areas, ask for a coil protection option and safe access for cleaning.
- Roof or plinth
- Dhaka floods almost every year, so a ground plinth needs height, drainage and electrical gear above the likely water line. A roof needs a structural check and a rigging route.
Ratings and standards to ask for
- AHRI certification
- AHRI checks the published capacity, efficiency, water pressure drop and IPLV of catalogue models. Custom units and modular arrays are not certified.
- EN 14511 and EN 14825:2022
- The European rating basis: the 2022 parts of EN 14511 for tested capacity and efficiency, EN 14825 for part load and seasonal figures such as SEER.
- EN 12102-1:2022
- How the sound power of a chiller is measured. Ask for sound power to it, not a sound pressure figure at an unstated distance.
- EN 378-1:2016+A1:2021 and EN 378-2:2016
- Safety rules for refrigerating systems; Part 2 covers design, construction, testing, marking and documents. Ask whether the unit is built to them.
Lead times and delivery
Smaller catalogue chillers are sometimes held in dealers' stock abroad, which shortens the wait. Larger and special units are usually built to order, with the factory slot, sea freight to Chattogram and customs clearance on top. Coil coatings or a witnessed test add time. Roptan confirms the delivery date in the quote.
We deliver to the roof or plinth and plan the lift with you: the rigging route, the structure, the electrical capacity and the noise limit at your boundary. The seller sets the unit to its clearance drawing, connects the chilled water and commissions it. Handover usually includes the commissioning sheet, wiring diagrams, manuals and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Questions buyers ask
Why does an air cooled chiller lose capacity in hot weather?
The refrigerant must condense hotter as the outdoor air warms, so the compressor works harder for less cooling. A unit that meets the load in a mild month can fall short in April. Ask for the capacity curve at your hottest roof air and keep the coils clean.
How much space does it need around it?
Enough for the fans to draw fresh air and throw hot air away without it coming back. Nearby walls, screens and other plant cause recirculation, which cuts capacity and raises power. Fix the position to the seller's clearance drawing before the plinth or steel is built.
Is an air cooled chiller suitable near the coast?
Yes, with coil protection. Coils are usually copper tube with aluminium fins, and salt air and dust attack them and block airflow. Ask the seller for a protection option on the coil and safe access to clean it, and plan coil cleaning as routine maintenance.
Can I add capacity later?
Yes, with a modular unit. Modules of various sizes join to reach a larger tonnage, so you can install in phases and keep cooling when one module is down. AHRI certifies single catalogue models, not the array, so ask for the rating of each module.
How soon will I hear back about chillers?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the capacity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
