Buying watch parts in Bangladesh

Watch parts are the cases, case backs, crowns, bracelets, straps, dials and small parts that a watch brand or assembler fits around a movement. In customs terms they fall under HS 9111 for cases, 9113 for straps and bracelets and 9114 for dials and other parts. Bangladesh records small exports of watch case parts and other parts.

A watch part manufacturer in Bangladesh works to a buyer's drawing, so the order rests on fit, finish and skin-contact tests. Roptan sources from verified makers, writes dimensions, plating and test limits into the order and checks the parts before they ship. EPB shows parts, not finished watches or movements.

Kinds of watch part

Watch cases and backs

Cases of base metal, plated or not, or of precious metal, with backs, crowns and crystal seats. Choose the material and plating for the market, and test the assembled watch for water resistance.

Metal bracelets

Usually stainless steel, sometimes plated, in folded link, pushpin or screw-in construction. Approve the link style, clasp and finish on a sample, and test the steel for nickel release.

Leather and textile straps

Leather, cloth or nylon straps, usually fixed by spring bars. For EU sale, a leather strap needs a chromium VI test as well as the buckle's nickel report.

Rubber and silicone straps

Rubber, silicone, polyurethane or FKM straps for sports and diving styles. Ask for the material by name and a test report, not an anti-allergy claim.

Dials and small parts

Dials, plates, bridges and springs made to a drawing. Supply the drawing of the movement and case they must fit, and approve a first sample.

How to specify watch parts

Drawing and tolerance
Give every dimension in millimetres with a tolerance: case diameter, thickness, lug width, crystal seat and the strap end.
Material
Name the grade. 316L, the low-carbon version of 316, is the usual case and bracelet steel; passivation to ASTM A967 improves its corrosion resistance.
Plating
State plating metal and minimum thickness in microns. In the trade, flash gold is under 0.5 micron and heavy gold plate 2.5 microns or more.
Water resistance
Give the rating for the assembled watch and the gaskets, crown and case back that achieve it, since the seal decides it, not the mark.
Movement fit
If parts go round a quartz movement you supply, check rate and fit together; stepper movements can be upset by magnets.
Market
Name the destination, so the right lead, nickel and leather tests are ordered on the parts that touch skin.

Standards and tests for watch parts

REACH Annex XVII lead restriction
Wrist watches count as jewellery: cases, backs, crowns, buckles and straps must stay below 0.05 per cent lead by weight; internal parts out of reach are exempt.
EN 1811 after EN 12472
Nickel release from cases, backs and bracelets in prolonged skin contact; coated parts are aged by EN 12472 first.
ISO 22810:2010
The test for watches sold as water-resistant. As commonly read, 3 atm is splash and rain only, 5 atm showering and shallow swimming, 10 atm swimming and water sports.
ISO 6425:2018
Divers' watches, tested at 125 per cent of rated pressure and for depths of at least 100 m. Do not cite it for dress or everyday sports watches.
REACH chromium VI in leather
A limit of 3 mg/kg chromium VI in leather articles that touch skin, which reaches leather straps.

What moves the price of watch parts

  • Material: precious or base metal, and the grade of steel or alloy you name.
  • Plating: the metal, the colour and the minimum thickness in microns.
  • Tolerance and finish: how tight the dimensions are, and polished or brushed surfaces.
  • Tooling: whether a mould or die exists for the design or must be made.
  • Tests: lead, nickel and leather reports per part and plating colour.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on whether tooling exists for your design. A part made on an existing mould or die is quicker than a new design that needs tooling and a first-article sample. Plating colours, lab tests on skin-contact parts and a water test on assembled samples add time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Roptan delivers anywhere in Bangladesh, to assemblers and brands, packed per part and plating colour as agreed. Each delivery comes with the packing list, the dimension check results, any lab reports the order called for and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • First-article dimensionsWe measure a first sample against your drawing, starting with the strap or lug width, before bulk is approved.
  • Plating thickness and colourWe ask for thickness readings in microns and check colour against the approved sample.
  • Skin-contact reportsLead and nickel reports on cases, backs and bracelets, and a chromium VI report on leather straps for EU orders.
  • Water test on samplesWhere you set a rating, a pressure check on assembled samples from the lot, not only the mark on the case back.

Questions buyers ask

Does Bangladesh export watch parts?

On a small scale. EPB recorded exports of other clock and watch parts (HS 9114) and of parts of watch cases (HS 9111) in FY2025-26, with no line for straps or movement sets. Roptan sources parts to your drawing and checks them against it.

Is 316L stainless steel nickel-free?

No. 316L is a chromium, nickel and molybdenum steel, so a case or bracelet for the EU needs a nickel release test to EN 1811 on the finished part. Ask for the report on your parts rather than accepting a nickel-free claim.

What does a 5 atm rating mean?

As commonly read, 5 atm (50 m) suits showering and shallow swimming, not diving. The rating usually rests on a static pressure test of sample watches, so one watch may not meet it; case, crown, gasket and crystal fit decide the result. Ask for a pressure check on assembled samples.

Do leather straps need their own test?

Yes, for Europe. Leather that touches skin falls under the REACH limit of 3 mg/kg for chromium VI, which a buckle or case report does not cover. Ask for a report on the strap leather itself, and a nickel report on the buckle.

How soon will I hear back about jewellery and watches?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
