Buying clocks in Bangladesh

A clock shows time on a dial with hands or on a digital display, often driven by a battery quartz movement. Offices, schools, hotels, homes and corporate gift buyers in Bangladesh order wall, table and alarm clocks. EPB records Bangladesh exports of clock movements and time recorders, not of finished clocks, so treat clocks as an item Roptan sources.

Clock complaints often come from the movement: a tick in a quiet room, a clock that drifts, a digital clock that resets. A clock manufacturer in Bangladesh can state each of these in the quote, so Roptan writes them into the order, runs a sample and checks the lot before delivery.

Kinds of clock

Analogue wall clocks

A dial and hands on a quartz movement fixed to the back of the case. Choose them for offices, classrooms and homes, and pick a silent sweep movement where the room is quiet.

Table and mantel clocks

Small clocks for a shelf or desk, often in wood or a combined case. Their movement sits on a seat board, unlike a wall movement fixed to a back board.

Alarm clocks

Mechanical with a mainspring and bell, digital with a buzzer, or clock radios on mains with battery backup. Some wake with light or vibration; analogue models carry an extra alarm hand.

Digital clocks

LCD, LED or VFD numerals in 12 or 24 hour format. Ask for a backup battery or capacitor, or the clock returns to 12:00 after a power cut or battery change.

Movements and dials

Clock movements, dials and other parts sold apart from cases, for buyers who make their own cases. Each has its own customs line, so state it on the order.

How to specify a clock

Tick or sweep
A stepper movement moves the second hand once a second with a tick; a sweep movement turns it smoothly and quietly. Choose sweep for bedrooms and offices.
Accuracy
A typical quartz movement gains or loses about 15 seconds in 30 days between 5 and 35 °C. Temperature away from that band is the main source of extra drift.
Battery type
Name AA, AAA or a coin cell, and whether batteries are included. A coin cell brings child-safety rules for the US.
Display and backup
For digital clocks, state the display type, the 12 or 24 hour format and a backup for the time and alarm settings.
Case and dial
Give case material, diameter or size in millimetres, lens material and the dial artwork, with a printed proof approved before bulk.
Alarm
For alarm clocks, state sound, light or vibration, the alarm hand or display, and whether the alarm repeats.

Rules and papers for clocks

EU RoHS, Directive 2011/65/EU
Restricts ten substances, among them lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and four phthalates, in electrical equipment, which includes battery and mains clocks. Ask for a declaration of conformity naming the clock.
US Reese's Law, 16 CFR Part 1263
In force since 23 October 2023: products with button or coin cells must keep the battery out of a child's reach and carry warnings. AA and AAA clocks are not covered.
HS 9105, 9109 and 9114
Finished clocks fall under 9105, split into alarm, wall and other clocks, electric or not; movements under 9109; dials under 9114.30. Your broker needs the format and power source.

What moves the price of a clock

  • The movement you choose: tick, sweep, alarm or digital, and its accuracy band.
  • The case: material, size, finish, and whether a custom shape needs a new mould.
  • The dial: a stock dial, or custom printed artwork and a logo with a proof.
  • Batteries and packing: batteries included or not, gift boxes, printed cartons.
  • The papers your market asks for, such as a RoHS declaration for the EU.

Lead times and delivery

Time depends on how much of the clock is custom. A stock design with a standard dial is quicker; a printed logo dial needs artwork and a proof, and a new case shape needs a mould. Sample runs for accuracy and changes after approval add time. Roptan confirms the dates and the minimum in the quote.

Roptan delivers anywhere in Bangladesh, to offices, schools, hotels and gift buyers, boxed per clock with batteries fitted or packed apart as ordered. Each delivery comes with the packing list, the check results on the lot and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

What we check for this order

  • Sample against a referenceA sample clock runs for some days beside a reference clock before bulk is approved, to catch a movement that drifts badly.
  • Movement as orderedWe check that the lot has the sweep or tick movement you ordered, listening in a quiet room.
  • Dial against the proofPrint, colour and logo position on the dial against the approved proof.
  • Battery and papersFor US orders, a secured coin cell compartment and warnings; for EU orders, a RoHS declaration naming the clock.

Questions buyers ask

Are clocks made in Bangladesh?

EPB records Bangladesh exports of clock movements and of time recorders in FY2025-26, but no finished clock line. Roptan sources finished clocks from verified sellers, whether assembled here or not, and checks the movement, case and papers against your order.

How accurate is a quartz wall clock?

A typical quartz movement gains or loses about 15 seconds in 30 days when kept between 5 and 35 °C. Heat or cold beyond that adds drift. Nearby magnets can also stop or jog a stepper movement for a while.

How do I get a clock that does not tick?

Ask for a sweep movement. It turns the second hand with a smooth motor instead of stepping it once a second, which is usually quieter. Write it on the order, and Roptan checks it on the sample and the lot.

Does a time recorder count as a clock?

Not in customs terms. Time recorders and time registers, such as attendance recorders, have their own heading, HS 9106, apart from wall and alarm clocks under 9105. Tell Roptan which you need, since the specification and the papers both differ.

How soon will I hear back about jewellery and watches?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
