Buying truck and bus bodies in Bangladesh

A truck or bus body is built on a chassis the buyer already owns: the chassis maker supplies the cab and bare frame rails, and a body builder adds the cargo box, tipper tub, tank or passenger shell. Haulage firms, contractors, bus operators and fleet owners in Bangladesh order bodies for new chassis and to replace worn ones.

A body that changes the registered length, width, seating or wheelbase generally needs BRTA permission. As your truck and bus body supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan turns the chassis papers and your use into one specification, sources a verified builder, checks the build and hands over the vehicle with its records.

Kinds of truck and bus body

Box and covered van bodies

An enclosed body with rear doors on the frame rails of a chassis cab. Choose it for cartons, retail stock and other goods that must stay dry in the monsoon.

Flatbed and stake bodies

A flat, level platform, with or without stakes. Loading is quick from any side, but the load has no protection, so plan covers and lashing points.

Tipper bodies

Rear tippers are raised by a front-post or underbody hydraulic ram; side tippers unload along a road edge. Tubs are usually bent from wear-resistant steel plate.

Refrigerated and tank bodies

An insulated panel body with a refrigeration unit for chilled or frozen goods, or a tank for liquids. Name the goods or liquid before design starts.

Bus and coach bodies

Transit bodies have hard-wearing fittings and often several doors for city routes; coach bodies serve intercity routes. Both usually sit on a rigid chassis.

How to brief a truck and bus body supplier in Bangladesh

Chassis
Give the chassis model, wheelbase, rear overhang and gross vehicle weight, with the chassis drawing for the subframe and mountings.
Registered dimensions and seats
State the length, width, height, overhangs and seat count the registration allows. Stretching a vehicle into another class without permission is unlawful.
Payload and body weight
Ask for the empty body weight in writing and check it, with the payload, against the axle load limit in force.
Frame steel and fasteners
Name the frame steel grade, for example to ISO 630-2 or an equal national grade, section sizes and thicknesses, and bolts to ISO 898.
Corrosion protection
Ask for the paint system and dry film thickness in microns under ISO 12944, and galvanising to ISO 1461 on floor cross-members, usually at least 85 microns on steel over 6 mm.
Doors, lights and fittings
For buses: doors, emergency exits, seat layout, windows and AC. For trucks: lights, reflectors and tie-down points.

Law, approvals and design references for bodies

Road Transport Act 2018
In force since 16 November 2019. Changing a registered specification, or the brakes, steering or lights, generally needs BRTA permission; an unpermitted change is an offence.
BRTA registration and fitness
BRTA registers vehicles and issues fitness certificates and route permits. For a body on a used chassis, see both first.
UN Regulations No. 107 and No. 66
General bus construction and superstructure strength. Bangladesh is not a party to the UN 1958 Agreement: use them as design references and for export markets, not as BRTA rules.
UN Regulations No. 58 and No. 73
Rear underrun and lateral protection for trucks, asked for by markets that apply UN rules.

What moves the price of a truck or bus body

  • Body kind: a covered van or insulated body takes more panels and fittings than a flatbed of the same length.
  • Size: body length and height, set by the wheelbase, decide how much steel goes in.
  • Steel grade and thickness of floor, frame and panels; wear-resistant tipper plate costs more than structural steel.
  • Galvanising and a thicker paint system add cost but slow rust in wet conditions.
  • Fittings and bought-in parts: bus seats, AC, tipper rams and refrigeration units.

Lead times and delivery

A body is a one-off build, usually one per chassis, so there is no standard time or minimum. The date depends on when the chassis reaches the yard, whether the design is new or repeated, bought-in parts such as tipper rams or AC units, and paint drying. Roptan confirms the build dates in the quote, counted from chassis arrival.

The builder hands the vehicle over at its yard or your depot. Before handover we check dimensions and seat count against the registration, doors, exits, lights, paint thickness and, on covered bodies, a water test. You receive the inspection report, body drawing, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3). An unpermitted change can expose the owner, not only the builder.

What we check for this order

  • Chassis papers firstWe match the chassis model, wheelbase and registration to the body drawing before steel is cut.
  • Frame and weldsDuring the build we check section sizes, steel thickness and welds against the drawing, before panels hide them.
  • Paint and galvanisingWe take dry film thickness readings and inspect galvanised parts, since a thin coating is hidden once finished.
  • Handover measurementsWe measure length, width, height and seat count against the registration, and test lights, doors and exits.

Questions buyers ask

Can a body be made longer or carry more seats than the registration allows?

Not lawfully without permission. Under the Road Transport Act 2018, changing the length, width, height, seating or wheelbase generally needs BRTA permission. Roptan has the body built to your registration papers and raises any change you ask for before the build starts.

Do bus bodies need UN Regulation No. 66 approval in Bangladesh?

No. Bangladesh is not a party to the UN 1958 Agreement, so UN approvals are not a BRTA requirement. The EU lists No. 66 and No. 107 for new vehicles. If a body is meant for a market that applies UN rules, say so before design.

Can you build a new body on an old chassis?

Yes, when the chassis papers are in order and the frame rails have been checked for cracks and rust. A new body does not make an unfit chassis fit: BRTA issues the fitness certificate for the whole vehicle.

Which tipper body suits sand and stone?

Usually a rear tipper on a rigid chassis, raised by an underbody or front-post ram, with a U-shaped tub bent from wear-resistant plate for abrasive loads. Side tippers suit unloading along a road edge. State the material and typical load weight so the builder can size the tub and ram.

How soon will I hear back about vehicles and auto parts?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
