Buying brake and suspension parts in Bangladesh

Brake and suspension parts wear with every load: shoes, linings, pads, drums, discs, leaf springs, bushes and shock absorbers. Most heavy trucks and buses use drum brakes, usually on leaf springs, and vehicles are generally required to pass a fitness check each year, so fleet workshops, operators and dealers in Bangladesh buy them steadily.

Two linings or two springs can look the same and behave very differently. As a brake and suspension part supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan turns your part list into one specification, sources from verified makers and checks friction material, steel, hardness and dimensions on a sample. You deal with Roptan only.

Kinds of brake and suspension part

Drum brake shoes and linings

Shoes pressed outward against a drum, used on most heavy trucks and buses. Drums can be self-energising but fade with repeated use. The lining is bonded or riveted to a metal backing.

Disc brake pads

Pads clamped on a rotor by a caliper. Discs cool better and fade less than drums, and braking force follows applied pressure. Choose pads by friction material and backing plate.

Brake drums and discs

Ventilated discs shed heat where vehicle weight and power demand it. Order drums and discs by part number, diameter and mounting, together with matching shoes or pads.

Leaf springs

Multi-leaf springs rely on friction between leaves; parabolic springs use fewer leaves that taper from centre to ends, which cuts that friction. Choose the type the axle was built for.

Shock absorbers

Dampers that turn shock energy into heat by forcing oil and gas through valving, usually twin-tube or mono-tube. A damper does not make up for a spring of the wrong rate.

How to brief a brake and suspension part supplier in Bangladesh

Vehicle and part number
Give the vehicle model and year, the axle and wheel position, and the original part number, or send a sample with the part it mates with.
Friction material
Name the family: non-metallic, semi-metallic, ceramic or metallic. Ask for the friction coefficient, typically 0.3 to 0.5 for pad materials, and a written asbestos-free declaration.
Lining and backing
State the lining thickness, bonded or riveted fixing, and the backing plate or shoe dimensions, so the assembly fits the drum or caliper.
Spring steel and leaves
Name the steel, for example to ISO 683-6, with leaf count, width, thickness (typically 5.2 to 9.5 mm a leaf), eye diameter and free camber.
Spring heat treatment
Ask for quenching and tempering to a stated Brinell hardness range, and shot peening after hardening, with hardness results per lot.
Real operating load
State the load the vehicle actually carries and the axle rating, so springs and linings suit real use.

Approvals, materials and checks

UN Regulation No. 90
Approval of replacement linings, pads, drums and discs. Bangladesh is not a party to the UN 1958 Agreement: treat it as an export market rule and design reference, not a BRTA requirement.
ISO 683-6 and ISO 683-2
Hot-rolled steels for quenched and tempered springs, and alloy steels for quenching and tempering. Name the grade and ask for the mill certificate for the heat.
IATF 16949:2016
Replaced ISO/TS 16949 in October 2016. Check the certificate's scope names the parts quoted.
BRTA fitness check
Vehicles are generally required to pass a fitness check each year, and it covers brake function. A fitness certificate does not show that a part meets its specification.

What moves the price of brake and suspension parts

  • Friction family: semi-metallic lasts longer but wears drums and discs faster; ceramic and non-metallic are different trade-offs.
  • Construction: disc brakes cost more to make than drum brakes.
  • Spring size: number, width and thickness of leaves set the steel used.
  • Spring steel grade, and the quenching, tempering and shot peening steps.
  • Damper construction, twin-tube or mono-tube, and the mounting hardware.

Lead times and delivery

There are no reliable lead-time or minimum figures for this trade. Stock parts by part number are usually quickest. Springs and linings made to a sample take longer, since the sample is measured, the material chosen and a first piece approved. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum in the quote.

We deliver to workshops, bus and truck depots and dealers anywhere in Bangladesh, boxed or palletised and labelled by part number and batch. You receive the hardness and dimensional records, the asbestos-free declaration, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).

Buying brake and suspension parts for export

These parts fall under wider HS lines: 8708.30 for brakes, 8708.80 for suspension and shock absorbers, 7320 for leaf springs and 6813 for linings and pads. Recorded exports under these lines are small. Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram, with an ISO 2859-1 sample check before loading.

What we check for this order

  • Friction material papersWe obtain the asbestos-free declaration and friction data for the exact part number before the order is placed.
  • Lining bond and thicknessWe check lining thickness and the bond or rivets to the backing on a sample from each lot.
  • Leaf dimensions and camberWe measure leaf count, width, thickness, eye size and free camber against the sample or drawing.
  • Spring hardnessWe check Brinell hardness on sample leaves from each lot against the stated range.

Questions buyers ask

Drum or disc brakes for a truck or bus?

Keep the system the vehicle was built with. Most heavy trucks and buses use drums, which can be self-energising but fade with repeated use. Discs cool better and fade less, but converting an axle changes the brakes, which generally needs BRTA permission. Order replacements by original part number.

Multi-leaf or parabolic springs?

A multi-leaf spring relies on friction between many leaves; a parabolic spring uses fewer leaves that taper from centre to ends, which cuts that friction. Stay with the type the axle was built for unless the vehicle maker or a qualified engineer approves the change.

Semi-metallic or non-metallic linings?

Semi-metallic linings are harder, resist fade better and last longer, but wear the drum or disc faster. Non-metallic linings are gentler on drums and discs but make more dust and wear sooner. Ask for the friction data for the exact part number either way.

Do linings need R90 approval in Bangladesh?

No. Bangladesh is not a party to the UN 1958 Agreement, so UN Regulation No. 90 is not a Bangladeshi requirement. It matters when parts go to a market that applies UN rules. For local use, ask for friction data and the asbestos-free declaration.

How soon will I hear back about vehicles and auto parts?

Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.

Who do I deal with?
