Buying engine parts in Bangladesh
Engine parts are the wearing and replaceable pieces of a diesel or petrol engine: pistons, rings, liners, valves, bearings, gaskets, filters, connecting rods and fuel-system parts. In Bangladesh, fleet workshops, bus and truck operators, generator users and parts dealers buy them to keep engines running, and importers abroad buy them too.
Most engine parts are specified by part number and drawing, not by a named approval. As an engine part supplier in Bangladesh, Roptan turns your part list into one specification, sources from verified makers and checks material, hardness and dimensions on each lot. You deal with Roptan only.
How to brief an engine part supplier in Bangladesh
- Engine and part number
- Give the engine model and year, the original part number, bore, stroke and any oversize or undersize, and whether a liner is wet or dry.
- Drawing and tolerances
- For parts made to drawing, tolerance critical fits individually; ISO 2768-1 then covers linear and angular dimensions left without a tolerance.
- Material
- Name the grade: grey cast iron to ISO 185 or spheroidal graphite iron to ISO 1083 for liners and heads, aluminium alloy for pistons, valve steel to ISO 683-15.
- Hardness
- State the hardness range on the drawing, for example as Brinell HBW, and ask for results per lot. It is the usual acceptance test for cast and heat-treated parts.
- Coatings
- Most modern diesel top rings carry a chromium-based coating; say if you need it. For coated parts, ask for a salt spray test to ISO 9227.
- Packing and marking
- Rust-preventive wrapping, part number and batch on each box, and sets packed per cylinder or per engine.
Quality systems and tests for engine parts
- IATF 16949:2016
- Replaced ISO/TS 16949 in October 2016 and builds on ISO 9001. Check that the certificate's scope covers the parts quoted.
- ISO 4548 and ISO 5011
- Test methods for full-flow oil filters, and performance tests for engine air cleaners. Ask for the report for the part number quoted.
- ISO 683-15
- Valve steels for internal combustion engines. Ask the maker to name the grade and give a material certificate for the batch.
- ISO 6621-1
- The vocabulary for piston rings. Use its terms on drawings so both sides name ring types the same way.
Lead times and delivery
There are no reliable lead-time or minimum figures for this trade, so Roptan gives none here. Parts in stock by part number are usually quickest. Parts made to drawing take longer, and longer still when a pattern or die is needed or a first article must be approved. Roptan confirms dates and any minimum in the quote.
We deliver to workshops, fleet depots, generator sites and dealers anywhere in Bangladesh, labelled by part number and batch. You receive dimensional and hardness records, material certificates where ordered, warranty terms and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying engine parts for export
Roptan quotes FOB Chattogram (Chittagong), parts rust-protected, boxed by part number and palletised; your customs broker confirms the HS 8409 line. Before loading we check an ISO 2859-1 sample for dimensions, hardness and marking. Documents: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and a REX statement for EU GSP.
Questions buyers ask
Should I buy pistons, rings and liners together?
Usually yes. The piston and rings run inside the liner as a matched set, so they are normally quoted together by engine model, bore and any oversize. Send the original part numbers for all three, and say whether the bore has been rebored to an oversize.
How do I know whether my engine has wet or dry liners?
Check the engine manual or the original part number. A dry liner sits inside the block and never touches the coolant; a wet liner is made separately, with coolant flowing round its outside. Order the same type the engine was built with.
Is there a BSTI or BRTA approval for replacement engine parts?
We found no mandatory BSTI or BRTA scheme for aftermarket engine parts, so Roptan does not claim one. The proof of a part is its fit, material and hardness against the original part number or drawing, which we check on every lot, and the maker's quality system certificate.
Can you supply engine parts for export?
Yes. Engine parts have their own export line, HS 8409. We quote FOB Chattogram, check a sample of each lot for dimensions and hardness before loading, and send the material and inspection records with the shipping documents.
How soon will I hear back about vehicles and auto parts?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
With Roptan, when Roptan manages the order: we buy from the verified seller and deliver to you. With the supplier directly, when you post on the requirement board and choose a quote yourself.
