Buying swimwear in Bangladesh
Swimwear covers one-piece swimsuits, bikinis, swim trunks, boardshorts, swim briefs and rash guards. Importers buy it for beach, resort and pool ranges; swim schools, clubs, hotels and shops in Bangladesh buy training suits and trunks. Pool water is chlorinated and sea water salty, each with its own colour fastness test, so the fabric follows where the suit is worn.
A swimsuit is judged wet: it must stay opaque, keep its colour and hold its stretch. A swimwear manufacturer in Bangladesh works to your brief, so Roptan writes pool or sea use, fibre, lining and test levels into it, places the order with a verified seller, checks the lab reports and a wet sample, and inspects the bulk.
How to brief a swimwear manufacturer in Bangladesh
- Pool or sea
- Say where the suit will be worn. Chlorinated pool water and sea water each have their own colour fastness test, and pool use decides the fibre and elastane grade.
- Fibre and elastane grade
- Nylon, polyester or PBT, the elastane share, and whether the elastane is a chlorine-resistant grade. A little elastane is vital for stretch even in polyester suits.
- Lining and opacity
- Where the suit is lined and in what fabric. Fabric should be tested for stretch recovery and for opacity when wet, so approve each colour wet.
- Prints and colours
- Name every colour and print. Sublimation prints work on polyester, not on nylon, so choose the print method and the fibre together.
- Fit across body types
- Give the size chart and try samples on fit models of different measurements and body shapes, since swimwear fits close everywhere.
Swimwear tests and sun claims
- ISO 105-E03
- Colour fastness to chlorinated pool water, run at 50 or 100 mg/l active chlorine for swimwear and 20 mg/l for beach robes and towels. Ask which level your report used.
- ISO 105-E02 and ISO 105-B02
- Fastness to sea water for beachwear, and to light by xenon arc lamp for suits worn in strong sun. Ask for grades on every colour of the bulk fabric.
- AS/NZS 4399 and EN 13758
- AS/NZS 4399:2020, with Amendment 1:2025, evaluates and classifies sun protective clothing. In Europe, EN 13758-1 is the UV test method and EN 13758-2 the classification and marking.
- EN ISO 20932-1
- Fabric stretch and recovery by strip test. For stretch lost after chlorine exposure, agree the exposure time and a pass limit with the seller, then test to this method.
Lead times and delivery
Proto, fit and pre-production samples usually take four to six weeks. Order to port usually runs about 75 to 120 days for knitted swimwear, longer with imported or custom-dyed fabric or in the August to October peak. Minimums usually begin near 1,000 pieces per style and colour, more at large plants. Dates and minimums are confirmed in Roptan's quote.
Inside Bangladesh, Roptan delivers to your store, hotel, swim school or club, packed by size and colour, with each piece bagged if you ask. The delivery carries the packing list, the lab reports, the final inspection report and a VAT invoice (Mushak 6.3).
Buying swimwear for export
Knitted swimwear usually falls under HS heading 6112, with men's or boys' and women's or girls' lines by fibre; woven swimwear falls under 6211. The heading for women's knitted trousers and shorts, 6104, excludes swimwear, so swim shorts do not belong there. Your broker confirms the line. Quotes are FOB Chattogram, or by air from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, with fastness and any UPF reports.
Questions buyers ask
Can our rash guards be labelled UPF 50+?
Only with a lab report on your fabric and colour. UPF 50 means the fabric lets through two percent, one fiftieth, of the sun's rays. Wet fabric can lose as much as half its protection, so ask whether the test covered the fabric wet and stretched.
How do we check that elastic lasts in chlorine?
Agree a test with the seller: expose the fabric to chlorinated water for an agreed time, then measure stretch and recovery to EN ISO 20932-1 against your limit. Colour change is graded separately under ISO 105-E03, at the chlorine level you name.
Do swimsuits need a lining?
Many do. Most swim briefs have a beige or white lining inside the front, and light or thin fabrics need checking for opacity when wet. Specify the lining fabric and where it goes, then approve a wet sample of each light colour before bulk.
When should we order swimwear for summer?
Early. A US production guide advises starting six to nine months before a summer collection, to allow for sampling, revisions and shipping, and the August to October peak can stretch dates. One guide puts a restock at 6 to 12 weeks.
How soon will I hear back about sportswear and swimwear?
Within 48 hours of a complete requirement, with a price and a delivery date. A requirement is complete when it has the quantity, where it is needed and by when.
Who do I deal with?
